I hope we are staying safe and cool this summer. It has been a hot one so far! We have some wonderful opportunities for volunteers coming up. We are having our agility trials in August and will need help with everything from bar-setters, to timers, even help in the kitchen. I would volunteer for the kitchen duty, but believe me, you don't want me in there! We are also in need of volunteers to help move all of the equipment over to Cornerstone. Contact Keith Rosin if you are able to help. I know our members have a lot of great talents. If you are interested in teaching a class, contact Derek Townsend or Cheryl Sulewski to see what times and dates are available. 2 A Note from the Outreach Coordinator Ronda Bermke Outreach News The PKC Outreach program has been quite busy. A HUGE thank you to all the club members that participate in these visits and demonstrations. What an amazing group of people and dogs! I am so honored to be part of this group and be able to share our dogs with the Greater Green Bay Community. THE YMCA had an block party on June 19 th. Lots of activities for kids and their parents were part of this event. Clowns, bikes, food, and games. A wonderful event to kick off the summer! 3 More Outreach News June 26 th Pulaski Summer School For the past several years we have been invited to Pulaski to do a program for two summer school classes. Special thanks to Anne Lindsley and Toller Palmer for attending both classes on June 21 st to talk to the students in their classroom to get them started with good dog information. On June 26 th the following club members spent their morning with these two classes doing an outdoor demonstration. Super thanks to Sue Ruesch and Skyy for an outstanding nose work demo. We were small in numbers for this demo, but we were able to demo many things! Thanks to the following club members: Keith Rosin with Takoda & Brittney Sue Ruesch and Golden Skyy Mary Jones and Irish Wolfhound Hadrian Keith Rosin and Aussie Takoda (Frisbee dog!) and Collie Brittney Ronda Bermke and Border Collie Brew and Dachshund Sigma Camp Lloyd on June 28 th Camp Lloyd is a day camp at UW-Green Bay for youth that have lost a significant person in their lives. We were asked to attend on June 28 with the dogs to offer comfort to the students. Sue Ruesch wrote this after her visit this year. I think it sums up many of our outreach visits! Camp Lloyd for grieving children is one of my favorite outreach opportunities for Skyy. I know I have said this before, but Skyy s sweet soul was made for just this kind of work. Today I had one little girl that spent most of her time with us. She kept saying How can there be so much cuteness in this one dog?! She hugged her and stroked her ears and Skyy even honored her by giving her some Eskimo kisses (sweet nose to nose touches). These special furry angels are making a difference, even if it is for a short time, one kid at a time. 4 Outreach Continued... Algoma s Farmer s Market on July 8 th So, when it s hot where does one go? Well, Algoma of course! 5 Upcoming Outreach Events PKC Outreach has several upcoming programs. Please let Ronda know if you are available and willing to participate. Please remember that you need to be a club member (not a trainee), and your dog needs a current copy of his/her rabies certificate on file with Outreach. Your dog needs to be very friendly with people and other dogs. Senior Living Facility in Green Bay Wednesday, August 15 ~ a.m. This is a demo and socialization. Memory Care Facility in Green Bay Tuesday, August 21 ~ 10-10:30 a.m. This is a brief demo and socialization. Algoma Farmer s Market Sunday, September 2 and Sunday, October 7 ~ 9 a.m. -Noon We will have a table set up within the Farmer s Market to answer general dog questions and be available for socializing. We are looking for well behaved dogs around crowds and children to spend time at our booth. This event is held outdoors. 6 PKC Outreach Super Stars Bree Draves & Indee At 4 months old, Indee has already started his Outreach career! He will also be working on Conformation, and Agility. It is great to have him be able to go to different places and meet so many different people. At his second Outreach event, he made friends with a little girl who asked, Can he come with us when we go swimming today? I think Indee was excited to meet her, too, because he let her give him a big bear hug. As an American Water Spaniel, it is always fun to teach people about the State Dog of Wisconsin!

7 AGILITY INSTRUCTORS & ASSISTANTS NEEDED I m in the process of setting up Agility Classes for the fourth session, which will be held at Packerland Kennel Club. I m looking for volunteers to instruct and assist with the classes which will begin on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 and will go for 8 weeks. The tentative schedule of classes is listed below. This schedule may change depending on when volunteers can teach. Introductory Agility Wednesdays, 5:00 p.m. 5:45 p.m. Beginner Agility Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. 6:45 p.m. Novice Class Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. 7:45 p.m. Open/Excellent Class Wednesdays, 8:00 p.m. 8:45 p.m. Intermediate Agility Thursday, 8:00 p.m. 8:45 p.m. It is essential for us to get volunteers to instruct these classes. If we do not get volunteers for these instructor positions I will have to decide if we hold these classes. The Agility Program is in need of additional people to start volunteering to teach classes in order for it to be successful and for us to continue to hold all level classes. If we do not get the volunteers the Agility Program will not grow. We cannot continue this Agility Program as it is now without volunteers to instruct. Please consider volunteering for one of these Instructor or Assistant Instructor positions. 8 AUGUST AGILITY TRIAL EQUIPMENT MOVE The August Agility Trial is fast approaching. On Thursday, August 2nd, 6 p.m., we will be moving agility equipment from the Brown County Fairgrounds to the Cornerstone Community Ice Center. Once you have helped load, then drive to Cornerstone to meet the truck to help unload, please. There will be refreshments at both the Fairground and Cornerstone Community Ice Center. Please, we are in need of volunteers to assist with this move. We will meet at the Brown County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. In addition, we will need volunteers on Sunday, August 5th after the trial to move the equipment back to the Club and storage facility. The trial will end between 2:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. Please volunteer to help with these moves. The time you spend helping with the moving of equipment will be counted towards your volunteer hours. For your convenience, there will be volunteer hours sheets available at Cornerstone for you to pick up. Complete the form and drop it off at the Club building before November 2018 to receive credit. The more people we have the faster we get done! HELP NEEDED MOVING SOME EQUIPMENT THURSDAY MORNING We are looking for volunteers to help move equipment and flooring not needed at the Trial from the Brown County Fairgrounds to the storage unit on Thursday, August 2 at 10 a.m. This time will also go towards your volunteer hours.
