3 News England win The Ashes The England team have won the Ashes. It is England's first win in 18 years. They played five test matches. One England batsman scored 158 runs. The final test match was drawn. England and Australia play the Ashes. The trophy is the ashes of burnt wickets. The Ashes are every two years.

4 News Explosion in Nepal Six people have died in an explosion in Nepal. They were travelling on a bus. Rebels placed a road block. Passengers tried to move the road block. There were explosives hidden in the road block. Nepal is a country in civil war. It has been at war for nine years. There are often rebel attacks. Bombs in June killed 44 people.

5 News Fire in Paris 17 people died in a fire in Paris. 14 of them were children. The fire spread through a block of flats. Many African immigrants lived in the flats. 30 people were injured. 200 fire fighters stopped the blaze. Residents say the flats weren't safe. They were dirty and had rats. The French Government has promised to improve housing.

6 News Hurricane Katrina Hits USA A massive hurricane has been moving across America. It devastated New Orleans in south east America. Many people have died. Thousands of people are homeless. Most of the city is flooded. There are poisonous chemicals in the flood water.

7 News Hurricane Katrina Hits USA There is no clean water. There is no electricity. There is lots of violence happening in the city. Police are trying to stop people looting shops. Many places have been affected. There is a huge rescue operation.

8 News Hurricane Katrina Rescue Operation Help has arrived for the people of New Orleans. The hurricane destroyed most of the city. Thousands of people died. The president has sent thousands of troops to help. But much of the U.S. army are abroad. Water, food and medicine has been arriving.

People have been attacked and killed at the shelters. Many people are very angry with the president. People think the government was too slow to react.

10 News Wrongful Shooting Investigation On 22nd July police shot a man dead. This was the day after the failed tube bombings. Police thought he might be a suicide bomber. Police shot him on a London tube train. Police said his behaviour was suspicious. Some people said he jumped the ticket barrier. It was thought he ran away from police. Police shot him eight times. His death is being investigated.

11 News Violence in Iraq There have been several attacks in Baghdad. At least 112 people died in a bomb attack. The bomb exploded in a group of workers. Hundreds of people were injured. A terrorist group has claimed the attack. Other bombs have exploded in the city. There have been lots of shootings. At least 26 policemen have died.

12 News 72 hour Lesson A group of students sat through a 72 hour lesson. 26 Chinese students completed the English lesson. They have made a new world record. They were paid each hour. The students were very tired at the end of the lesson. Some can't remember what the teacher said.

13 Films Almost Famous Almost Famous is set during the 1970's. The story is about a teenage journalist. He reviews concerts and interviews bands. He leaves home and goes touring with a rock band. He makes friends with the band's fans. The film is about his adventures. Parts of the film are about the director's life. It is a very good film with many funny scenes. Almost Famous has a 15 certificate.

14 Films The Aviator The film is based on a true story. The story is set in America in the 1930's. The story is about an American plane designer. He also directs expensive movies. He has a phobia of germs and dirt. Everything must be very clean. He designs and builds new fast planes. The flying scenes are brilliant. The Aviator has a 12 certificate.

15 Films The Perfect Catch This is a romantic comedy film. Lindsey and Ben start dating. Ben really liked baseball. Ben didn't spend enough time with Lindsey. Lindsey's feelings were hurt and they broke up. This made Lindsey and Ben very sad. Ben stopped going to baseball games. This is a good film. The film has a PG certificate.

16 Films Big Big is about a 13 year old boy. He wants to be grown up. One day his wish comes true. He gets the body of a 30 year old man. He decides to go to New York. He gets a job at a factory. The film is funny and the acting is very good. It is a good family film. Big has a PG certificate.
