Harbor Boulevard, Ventura (805) ATTENTION EXHIBITORS DIRECTIONS TO SHOW SITE - If you are coming from the North on the Ventura Freeway, take the Ventura Avenue off ramp, go right on Thompson to Figueroa, then go right on Figueroa to the Fair Grounds. If you are coming from the South on the Ventura Freeway, take the California Street off ramp. Go left on California Street, cross over the freeway to Harbor. Then go right on Harbor to the Fair Grounds. DAY PARKING: Ventura County Fairgrounds will collect a fee of $5.00 per day at the entrance. Parking is permitted only in assigned lots and is prohibited in fire lanes. No day of show parking in overnight parking areas. ERRORS ON ENTRY FORMS - Owners are responsible for errors in making out entry forms, whoever may make such errors and no entry will be refunded in event of such errors or cancellations of entries after the published date. ALL DOGS PRESENT MUST BE ON A LEASH OR CONFINED TO THEIR CRATES except when being judged or when in an exercise pen. CLEAN UP IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY - Equipment will be placed around the show grounds and outside the show rings. If your dog soils the parking lot, show grounds or a ring, it is your responsibility to clean it up. By signing the entry form for these shows and trials you are agreeing that clean up is your responsibility. Violators may be subject to a show com m ittee hearing. Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. GRAND CHAMPION SELECT W hen quality warrants, after BOB and BOS are awarded, a Select Dog (SD) and Select Bitch (SB) may be chosen from the remaining Champions (Non Regular Class winners that are Champions and Qualify for BOB are eligible) - (W D or W B are not eligible) (AKC Dog Show Rules, Chapter 3, Section 14 Effective ) AW ARDS OF MERIT The judge may give an Award of Merit at his/her discretion to 10% of the Shetland Sheepdogs entry in the Best of Breed Competition. This includes Veteran Dog and Veteran Bitch, Performance Dog and Bitch. This award goes to Shetland Sheepdogs that the judge feels possess excellence in the Breed TROPHIES AND PRIZES Trophies and Prizes (including cash prizes) will be awarded in the judging rings to the person exhibiting the dog, who will be considered to be the owner or agent of the owner. All claims for trophies and other prizes must be made in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed, and the Event Secretary advised at once in the event of any discrepancy. 5 FOUR TO SIX MONTH BEGINNER PUPPY COMPETITION CLASSIFICATION - The Four-to-Six Month Puppy competition shall be for dogs that are four months of age and over but under six months on the day of the event. Professional handlers are not permitted to exhibit in this class. Enter on the regular entry form as an "Additional Class". Classes will not be divided by sex in this competition. The Certificate of Merit (CM) title is an introductory title to AKC conformation events. Entrants in each breed shall compete for Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed. W inners of the Best of Breed in each of the individual breeds or varieties will be awarded points toward the CM title based on the number of dogs defeated in their breed. W inners of Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed in each of the individual breeds will be awarded points towards the Certificate of Merit (CM) title based on the number of dogs defeated in their sex. The Certificate of Merit requires 15 points awarded in accordance with the following points structure. Dogs Competing Points Certificate of Merit points may also be earned in the FSS class, Miscellaneous Class or the 4-to-6 Month class held in conjunction with Championship dog shows. ELIGIBILITY:! AKC registration number or an AKC litter number will be required for entries of an AKC recognized breed as listed in Chapter 3, Section 1 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows.! A foreign born dog may enter this class if they are registered in the country of origin.! All entrants are to be vaccinated (including rabies) in accordance with their veterinarian's protocol.! Dogs that are owned or co-owned by a professional handler may compete in this class, but must be handled by a non-professional handler. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler. JUDGING:! Exhibitors should open the mouth of their puppy to show dentition for the judge to avoid transmission of illness.! Male puppies without 2 fully descended testicles need not be disqualified or excused but the judge s book must describe the condition and Certificate of Merit points must be withheld.! Dogs with breed standard disqualifications should not be excused but may not receive placements. However, dogs with age related disqualifications such as color (as related to age), height, teeth etc. are permitted to receive awards in the 4-to-6 Month Puppy classes.! Dogs must be excused for attacking a person or other dogs.! No dog is to be judged if it is brought into the ring bandaged, taped, glued or stitched anywhere including ears or tail. These dogs must be excused from judging but, at the judge s discretion, may return to be judged after the tape or bandage is removed.! Judges of this competition may also exhibit on the day(s) they judge.! Visiting judges are not eligible to judge 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy competition. Dealing with Misconduct will be applicable to any person and dog entered at this competition. All applicable rules found in Rules Applying to Dog Shows will govern the conduct of this competition unless these regulations state otherwise. 6 NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. This series of special competitions will be offered at select dog shows across the country. All dogs that are owner-handled and are not owned or exhibited by professional handlers* meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the steward s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the competition by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members and assistants to current professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any competition during the entire show. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including W inners Dog, W inners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes.! If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety and be eligible to compete in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled group.! If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner- Handled Best of Breed/Variety.! If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner-Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible W inners Dog or W inners Bitch.! If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible W inners.! If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including W inners Dog or W inners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. * Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay or received payment for handling a dog. A flat ribbon will be awarded for Best Owner Handler in each breed or variety. Note: AKC National Owner-Handled Series points do not contribute to championship points. At an individual show a dog earns the cumulative number of AKC National Owner-Handled Series points associated with each placement. In consideration of the acceptance of this entry and of the holding of this event and of the opportunity to have the dog judged and to win prizes, ribbons, or trophies, I (we) agree to hold the AKC, the event-giving club, their members, directors, governors, officers, agents, superintendents or event secretary and the owner and/or lessor of the premises and any provider of services that are necessary to hold this event and any employees or volunteers of the aforementioned parties, and any AKC approved judge, judging at this event, harmless from any claim for loss or injury which may be alleged to have been caused directly or indirectly to any person or thing by the act of this dog while in or about the event premises or grounds or near any entrance thereto, and I (we) personally assume all responsibility and liability for any such claim; and I (we) further agree to hold the aforementioned parties harmless from any claim for loss, injury or damage to this dog. The showing of unconfirmed Champions in Best of Breed competition is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where the dog completed the requirements for a championship. 3. (Event Class) Consult the classification in this premium list. If the event class in which you are entering your dog is divided, then, in addition to designating the class, specify the particular division of the class in which you are entering your dog, i.e, age division, color division, weight division. 4. A dog must be entered in the name of the person who actually owned it at the time entries for an event closed. If a registered dog has been acquired by a new owner it must be entered in the name of its new owner in any event for which entries closed after the date of acquirement, regardless of whether the new owner has received the registration certificate indicating that the dog is recorded in his name. State on entry form whether transfer application has been mailed to the AKC. (For complete rules, refer to Chapter 11, Section 3.)
