1 Welcome to the new on-line performance of our Update. The AGM before the Show had its usual well filled audience of over 30. Not much profit was made this time due to various reasons and one of the expense cuts involved the Update which will save money on printing and is also easier to present on-line especially regarding photographs. Championship Show July 2017 The Club Shows Although not present I am able to say the Show was its usual well run, well organised and well supported entry. The entry of 99 with 19 abs. Miniature Smooths for Mrs Janet McCleod (Janjac) and 56 Smooths with 6 abs. for Mr Derek Smith (Clickam) was right on par for the course. Outside catering was excellent, the raffle and tables were lovely and a good day was had by all, wish I had been there. Miniature Smooth Haired YEARLY UPDATE 2017 In dogs Mrs McCleod awarded the Dog CC to Adey Barrett s Ch Ayseebee Rumour has It, his 14 th, handled as always by John Tite. Reserve Dog CC went to Caroline Scott s Wolferlow Will Scarlet JW his 3 rd and Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed to Michael Paget and Gary Carroll s Marvale Up With The Lark. The Bitch CC & Best of Breed went to Joanne Blackburn-Bennett s Junior Stargang Cherry Berry her third and Reserve Bitch CC was awarded to Christine Russell s Ch. Russteck Plum Duff her 3 rd. Best Puppy Bitch was Mr and Mrs William s Wilmerella Moulin Rouge. Best Veteran was Yvonne Kent s Ch Barratini Jeeves At Lokmadi. 3 Best Veteran in Show Our Judges Ann Jefferys (Miniature Smooths and BIS) and Emma Black (Smooths) along with Best Puppy in Show Winner Marilyn Norton's Matzell Mrytle Best Veteran in Show was Claire and Laura s Multi Ch Bensarka Phoenix Sun, handled by Laura and Judge Lovaine Coxon. We look forward to next year s 2018 show which will definitely be different as it is to be held with the Longhaired Club and is on the 21st April at the Sky Connection. Open Show March 2017 The Show was sponsored by Royal Canin. Refreshments were the usual excellent choices organised by Bill Rowell. Ros Rawson presented the winners certificates. First in the ring this time were the Miniature Smooths with 51 entries to be judged by Mrs Ann Jefferies (Andax Smooths) and Best Puppy Dog & Best Puppy in Breed was Sue Ergis Siouxline The Muskateer who was later Reserve Best Puppy in Show. Andrea Callow s Garthorne Jackson won Best Dog and also Reserve Best of Breed. Reserve Best Dog was Wendy Starkey s Carpaccio Just my luck with Hamoura. In Bitches, Best Puppy Bitch was Carol Worswick s Dolyharp Sonata. Sue and Jason Hunt won Best Bitch and Best of Breed with Ch. Carpaccio Blythe Spirit JW and eventually Best in Show. 4 Best in Show Challenge Best Dog Andrea Callow s Garthorne Jackson Reserve Best Dog Wendy Starkey s Carpaccio Just my luck With Smooths second in the ring for the very first time we thought it might have become a bit empty at the end but everything seemed OK. With an entry of 30 for judge Miss Emma Black (Bassodon Mini-Wires) Best Puppy Dog was Mrs Goffin- Thorogood s Matzell Malizani who was also Reserve Best Dog. Marilyn Norton s Matzell Man Of The Match won Best Dog and Reserve Best of Breed. In puppies Marilyn also won Best Puppy Bitch & Best Puppy in Breed and eventually Best Puppy in Show with Matzell Mrytle her last time in puppy. The star of the Smooths however today was Peter Higgin s Ch Leveliss What She Said who won Best of Breed and was then Reserve Best in Show and Best Veteran in Show under Ann Jefferies. 5 Who Did What in 2017 The Main Winners in Smooths 2017 Entries were for the year was 866 down from 892 in Our 19 sets of CCs were judged by only 2 specialists, 7 other variety dachshund owners and 10 All rounders of which Tamas Jackel topped the bill with 100 at Crufts followed by Espen Engh at Houndshow with 64. Most of the others were in the 30s and 40s. Only 4 Champions were made up 1 dog and 3 bitches. Lesley McNaughton s Ch Carper Von Nordor (imp) with his 3 rd CC and BOB at Driffield. It has been another memorable year for Maurice and Judith Armstrong and Ch Lauralee Nicolas Nickleby winning his 24 th CC (with BOB) at the Dachshund Club. He was also BIS at the Southern Dachshund Association and Reserve Best in Show at Scottish Dachshund Club ending up top smooth for the 2 nd year running. The 3 bitches were John Bennett s Ch Shardaroba s Dream Baby who won her 3 rd CC at Southern Dachshund Ass, Marilyn Norton s CH Matzell Minella winning her 3 rd CC at Scottish Dachshund Club and Chris Moes and Rhian Williams Ch Cwmdarhian Hot Off The Press with her 3 rd CC at Smooth Haired Dachshund Club and made a total of 8 CCs, was Best in Show at The Houndshow, Reserve Best in Show at Smooth Haired Dachshund Club, Reserve Best in Show at Midland Dachshund Club and group shortlisted at Scottish Kennel Club ending up top bitch overall. Other dog winners were Chris and Rhian s Cwmdarhian San Andreas (brother to Hot Off The Press) winning his 1 st CC & BOB and taking Group 1 at Scottish Kennel Club also increasing his RCC count to 9. Young Georgia Maskell continued her winning ways with Clentry Monster Mash At Brownbank winning the 6 to 11 Junior Handling Class at Scottish Kennel Club Top Puppy was Paterson s Phaeland Second Delivery to Ambiesque with 50pts. Top Stud was Gatheral s Ch. Phaeland Screw Driver with 3 CC winners and a RCC winner (4 progeny). Top Brood was Chris and Rhian s CH Hampdach Merinda with 3 CC winners. Top Breeder was a tie between Matzell and Phaeland each having 2 CC winners and 2 RCC winners, Phaeland won on the tie break with total progeny points. There were no critiques from Stuart Milner at Blackpool, Hector Heathcote at Windsor and Lorraine Bedford and Lancs and Cheshire. Breed Registration Figures for 2017 Quarter : Quarter : Quarter 3 82 : Quarter : Total 439 Smooths are up in registrations over many previous years. The Main Winners in Miniature Smooths Entries were up 2178 over 200 up from Our judges were 7 breed Specialists, 13 other Variety Dachshund Owners and 7 All Rounders for the 27 sets of CCs. Seven Champions were made up 2 dogs and 5 bitches. The dogs were Peter Protheroe s Ch Royalmaple Anky Panky with his 3rd CC at West of England Dachshund Ass and Ellen Blackburn's Ch Stargang Tiger Feet winning his 3 rd CC at Welsh Kennel Club. Clentry Black Pudding 3 CC and 2 RCC winners Top Brood Ir Ch.Picollo Teckel Ginger Stripes at Cwmdarhian 2 CC winners. Top Breeder was Siouxline with 2 CC winners and 2 RCC winners although Stargang had 4 CC winners and 3 RCC winners under separate interests of the three generations of the Blackburn family. There were no critiques from Zara Boyle at Three Counties Breed Registration Figures for 2017 Quarter : Quarter : Quarter : Quarter : Total 5735 Percy and Betty together at one of our shows The Club sadly lost its Patron Percy Norton in July and President Betty Munt in December very long serving and valuable supporters of the club whose smiling faces and bohomie will be greatly missed at the Shows. Important Dates to Note for 2018 Due to the Houndshow bringing their show date forward to the day before ours it was not possible to hold our Championship Show along with the Longhaired Club the day after as the KC building could not accommodate our new dates. New dates and venues are as follows: Championship Show 21 st April 2018 at Sports Hall Sky Connection Ryton on Dunsmore AGM after the Show. 7 The Club Points System for the winners in the following categories: Top Dog / Bitch 10 points for a CC, 5 points for a RCC. In the event of a tie, the number of BOBs, is the deciding factor. Top Stud Dog Top Brood Bitch Top Breeder Top Puppy 10 points for each CC winner, 5 points for each RCC winner Progeny are only counted once a CC winner who also wins a RCC only counts as a CC winner. In the event of a tie, the number of winning progeny is the first deciding factor, followed by the number of points won by those progeny in total. 5 points for winning a Minor Puppy or Puppy class where CCs are on offer (only 1 class win counted per show), and 10 points for winning Best Puppy. In the event of a tie, the number of Best Puppy awards is the deciding factor.
