Cheltenham Mall and Upper Rock Creek Litter and Creek Trash Photo Survey Cheltenham Mall Litter and Creek Trash Photo Survey Area Visual monitoring around the Cheltenham Mall parking lot and Rock Creek shows that the Mall has extensive litter which is being blown and /or carried to Rock Creek during rain storms. This document: Identifies Cheltenham Mall parking lot and Rock Creek and litter/ creek trash monitoring sites Assess February, 2013 conditions at these monitoring sites Presents recommendations for TTF Trash Task Force to add the Cheltenham Mall to Task Force s Major Litter Site List and advise Cheltenham Township about our findings Updated to include Home Depot Litter Photos
Rock Creek Passes under Limekiln Pike & Ogontz Ave In Culvert, Emerges just South of Ogontz Ave
Cheltenham Mall and Upper Rock Creek Litter and Creek Trash Monitoring Locations RC2 CM2 Rock Creek Trash Monitoring Site Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring Site. CM2 CM1 RC2 RC2 Target Shop Rite
Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring Site CM1 Ogontz Ave and Rock Creek Cedarbrook Middle School Fence line, along Ogontz Ave RC2 Cheltenham Mall drainage ditch, discharges directly trash to Rock Creek
View of Rock Creek from Ogontz Ave. Steep slopes make litter clean-up dangerous. Litter prevention critical from water quality and safety standpoints TTF Trash Task Force: Draft Cheltenham Mall Photo Trash Survey for TTF Trash Task Force review only Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring Site CM1 Ogontz Ave and Rock Creek Slope from Ogontz Ave to Rock Creek covered with wind blown litter. Close up of litter on slope. Close up of litter on slope.
Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring Site CM2 Cheltenham Mall Shopper Lane Parking lot litter blown against fence CM2 Litter/ trash dumped outside fence
Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring Site CM2 Cheltenham Mall Shopper Lane Accumulation of litter/ trash on catch basin grates and in traffic Island indicates that Cheltenham Mall is not sweeping the parking lot on a regular basis.. Catch basins do not appear to have litter traps, potentially allowing smaller litter pieces to pass through the grates and directly to Rock Run.

Cheltenham Mall Litter Monitoring - Home Depot Parking Lot & Open Field
Rock Creek Trash Monitoring Site RC2 Adjacent to Cheltenham Mall RC2 Access to Rock Creek in this area is quite difficult. These photos taken from Cheltenham Mall Parking lot. Visible build-up of trash/ debris on tree branches extensive.
Cheltenham Mall and Rock Creek Monitoring Site February, 2013 Litter Trash Conditions and Task Force Recommendations Cheltenham Mall Litter Situation Litter photo surveys were conducted on 2 occasions: 1/14/13 and 2/7/13 TTF Trash Task Force Recommendations Extensive litter was found areas and down stream of Mall parking areas. Considerable amount of Cheltenham Mall litter appears to blow into steep embankment area where Rock Run exits culvert on Ogontz Ave, making litter clean-up for volunteers dangerous TTF should Cheltenham Township officials about the need for corrective action to address the Cheltenham Mall litter Rock Creek trash problem TTF Trash Task Force should conduct monthly litter photo surveys until corrective actions have been taken Cheltenham Mall does not have trash cans throughout the parking lot, making customer trash disposal difficult The extent of litter trash along the Mall s northern fence line makes this a top priority TTF Trash Task Force action area Rock Creek Trash Situation TTF Trash Task force should add this section of Rock Creek to the TTF Watershed Trash Impaired Creek List TTF Trash Task Force should begin monthly monitoring of RC2 site for submission to Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection s tri-annual impaired water quality list for potential regulatory action by PaDEP. Rock Creek trash monitoring site RC2 is challenging because of steep slope access to the creek Photos from the parking lot level show extensive trash build-up in tree branches
