2 B TO: SUBHECT: Tips on saving money Dear Krisha, I will be glad to give you some suggestions on how to help your cousin save more money. Looking at his expenses, he can save more money by cutting down on his shopping and going to the movies. Only buy what is really needed instead of buying all that he wants. In addition, I m sure he can save a lot by cutting down on taxi rides. He can car pool or take the bus or LRT to save more money. Otherwise, if it s near enough he can either cycle or walk. All this will help him save a bit more. I hope this helps. 4 The members of the Environmental Club divided themselves into several smaller groups. All of them had brought along brooms, rubbish bags and gloves so that they could pick up all the rubbish. The different groups spread out around the area so that they could cover more ground. They picked up all sorts of rubbish, from food containers to rusty tools to plastic bags. One group was busy sweeping up the dried leaves that made the place look very messy. After a few hours of hard work, they managed to make the place look clean and beautiful again. I tried growing a plant in a pot recently and I m happy to share that it is growing very well. First, I put some soil into an old mug and poked some holes in the soil using a stick. Then I took some basil cuttings and put one in each hole. Then I covered the hole up and pressed down on the soil lightly. Finally I watered it and put it on the window sill so it could get enough sunlight. After a week, I noticed new leaves growing from the cuttings. It s great to be able to harvest leaves from our own plants. Let me know how yours turns out. We stayed at Brinchang Lodge for two nights. If you go there, there are so many activities you can carry out. You can trek up Gunung Brinchang and walk through the Mossy Forest. You will be enjoying the beautiful natural environment there not to mention the cool weather. There is also the Boh Tea Centre you can visit. It s a very interesting place where you get to see how tea leaves are plucked and produced. And of course, you can also buy tea there. Apart from that, you can visit the Orang Asli village and go strawberry plucking at the Strawberry Farm. If you still have time, there is also the Butterfly Farm and Time Tunnel to visit. The Time Tunnel is a local museum which you may find interesting. Otherwise, I would recommend plucking strawberries! There s nothing like eating them fresh off the vine. You can also go shopping for flowers and cactus if you like. You will find many things to do in Camerons and I m sure your family will enjoy it there. 12 Section B Activity Recycling Campaign Car Wash Bake Sale Craft Sale What it involves Collect and sell recyclables Wash cars Bake, pack and sell cookies Make and sell jewellery I think we should have a Bake Sale in order to raise money. We can bake all the cookies with our parents help and each of us can do our part in packing the cookies. Once they are all packed we are ready to sell them any time. We will need to buy the ingredients for the cookies first and also the plastic and staples that we will use to pack them. We can sell them to our families, neighbours and friends. Apart from that, we can organise a special day just to sell our cookies in school or at a shopping mall where they hold weekend bazaars. Cookies are always popular snacks and I m sure many people will buy cookies from us. Section C Question 1 Sample answers Saturday was Sports Day at SK Simpang Setia. More than two hundred pupils took part in the various inter-house competitions. The school had put up many tents. The main tent for the spectators was colourfully decorated. The other tents were house tents which were smaller but decorated too. All the pupils look very excited. The most exciting event is the 4x100m relay race. The runners are just seconds apart from each other. The crowd of spectators are cheering and waving their flags to support and motivate the runners to run faster. The runners try their best but in the end, Red House won. At the end of the day everyone said that they had a great time at the Sports Day. Question 2 Every evening after completing his revision and homework, Ariff would walk around his housing estate with a black bag and a broom. He picks up the rubbish thrown around on the roads. He has been doing this for three months. Some of the residents have seen Ariff picking up rubbish. The President of the Residents Association called for a meeting and told all the residents about Ariff. They decided to help him. These days, someone walks around cleaning up the neighbourhood following in Ariff s example. The residents had a surprise party and Ariff was the guest of honour.
