3 General Information How to Measure Threads merican ryseal Pipe Threads (NPTF and NPSM) y using a combination of three tools, identifying connectors is easy to do. NOT: When comparing your measurements with those on the following pages it should be remembered that threads can become worn and distorted from use and you may not compare exactly to the figures in the tables. For your convenience, dimensions are in both millimeters and inches. The thread pitch gauge measures the threads per inch. This commonly used connection incorporates two methods of sealing. The male NPTF (ryseal) tapered thread will mate with the NPTF tapered female, which is usually a port, and seal when the special threads are crushed together. Male PTF (Short ryseal) are identical to male NPTF threads except that the thread length has been shortened by one full thread from the small end of the taper. dditional sealing aids such as pipe dope and teflon tape are often used with these threads. If the male end has a 30º seat it will mate with the 30º cone seat in the NPSM straight thread swivel female, usually found on adapters, and is mechanically held together by the threads. NPTF & NPSM threads are not interchangeable with ritish pipe threads. Thread Pitch Gauge The thread pitch gauge measures the threads per inch. The centerline of the end fitting and the gauge should be parallel. 15 General Information ssembly Instructions & Torque Values For 37 S Female Swivel onnections General Information and Precautions This connection type is torque sensitive in that it must be installed properly to assure sealing integrity and avoid damaging the components. The only accurate means of achieving proper torque requires the use of a suitable torque wrench. Shown below are recommended installation procedures and torque specifications per size. reference is given for the appropriate number of flats of hex turned past finger tight (to be known as F.F.F.T). This should be used only as "rule of thumb" and it is not a reasonable substitute for proper torque due to many variables such as the type of mating male connector. Hardness of the male connector has a significant impact in how many F.F.F.T. Typically a hard adapter takes less whereas a soft adapter takes more.
