Box 653 Cantonment, Fl GENERAL RULES FOR ALL CATEGORIES SHOW: Friday & Saturday, March 29-30, 2019 WHERE: Escambia Co. 4-H Property 5701 Hwy 99 Molino, Fl All 4-H and FFA youth from West Florida and South Alabama are eligible to show. 2. All youth participants must be GCA & NRYO members. (Individual membership-- $20. Family Membership --$30). All youth participants must be bonafide 4-H or FFA members and be in good standing with their respective organizations. Each member will have an official membership card from the respective organization and show in the appropriate dress. Any exhibitor not in proper dress will not be allowed in Showmanship. 3. GCA-NRYO DRESS: 4-H: Black pants, White shirt w/ collar and sleeves, 4-H emblem on left chest, Closed toe and heel dark shoes or boots, Belt, 4-H jacket or vest accepted. FFA: Black pants, White shirt w/ collar, FFA tie or scarf, FFA jacket- zipped up, closed toe and heel dark shoes or boots, Belt. NO HATS for 4-H or FFA!!! 4. All Animal entry fees (except Rabbit and Chickens) are $5.00. Rabbit and Chicken entry fees are $ Youth are eligible to show from age eight (by September 1, 2018) through the senior year of high school. (See specific category for additional informationrabbit, lamb and goats) 6. FFA and 4-H youth will compete against each other in all aspects of the show and sale. 7. Entry Forms: Exhibitors who knowingly state false information on entry forms will be subject to disqualification from the Show. Exhibitor s signature, parent/guardian s signature and teacher/leader s signature on the entry form that is submitted for a project signifies the rules and regulations have been read by the exhibitor, parent/guardian, teacher/leader and that all understand and agree to abide by rules and regulations. 8. Showmanship classes after weight or age classes. 9. Youth may only have assistance in the grooming process by parents, agents, advisors or other youth. No professionals allowed. 10. Premiums will be based on monies donated and dues paid by the membership of the Gulf Coast Agricultural and Natural Resources Youth Organization. 11. Premiums will be distributed at an award dinner approximately 30 days following the show. 12. Everyone must adhere to State Regulations regarding premise # and EID tags. 13. These rules will be enforced. Failure to follow them may result in immediate disqualification.

There will be 30 open slots available for exhibitors to reserve for the opportunity to show. One slot per exhibitor. 3. The cost of the Birds (pen of 6) will be $ Each exhibitor will receive 6 pullets (young female chickens) for the project and are required to have all 6 of the same breed. 5. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to choose between two different breeds of chickens. 6. All exhibitors are required to arrange for bidders (buyers) on an individual basis. Exhibitors should write letters to at least three perspective buyers and follow up with a visit or phone call. 7. Exhibitors may only enter in one pen that consists of two pullets. 8. All exhibitors are required to participate in showmanship.

6 9. All Pens of chickens must be sold through that auction/sale. Birds will be sold in pens of two. 10. Animals must be exhibited in good health. Any poultry with visible signs of illness will not be allowed to exhibit. 11. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the show area during judging, unless authorized by show superintendent 12. Standardized record books will be available online. The record books are due to the show superintendent on March 29, 2019 for review of project progress and signature. Finalized record books, which will include photos and project story, will be due April 10, 2019 no later than 4:30 P.M. at The Langley Bell 4-H Center. A forfeiture of one third of all premiums will be made if the appropriate record books are not submitted in a timely manner, or if any portion of the record book is incomplete. (Coccidiosis a disease of poultry caused by a protozoan-type parasite causing dehydration, blood loss and tissue damage. Symptoms include standing still (often on one leg) with their feathers ruffled up, wet feathers around their vent and watery white or yellow manure. 24. If checking the legs of your chicken and find scales on the shanks are crusty and bumpy and swollen, what might your chickens have? (scaly leg mites) 25. 12 Chick Chain Senior Showmanship and Skillathon Questions 1. What does depth of body indicate? (size of abdomen and ability to hold a forming egg) 2. What does width of body indicate? (size of body across the pelvic bone, room for egg) 3. Why do we measure flexibility of public bone? (to see if they will open enough for an egg to pass) 4. How many eyelids does a chicken have? Why? (3, upper, lower and nicating membrane which moves drown the front to the rear of the eye and is clear) 5. How many feather tract do chickens have? (10 head, neck, shoulder, wings, breast, back, abdomen, rump, thigh and legs) 6. Where is the axial feather found and how many do chickens have? (on wings between primary and secondary flights, one on each wing) 7. What is the difference between a broiler, a roaster, and a capon? (Broilers are young birds, usually processed at 6-8weeks of age. Roasters are usually weeks of age and Capon a castrated meat bird grown to about weeks of age) 8. What is Biosecurity and why is it important for your flock of birds? (Biosecurity means preventing infectious or disease causing organisms and other pests, like insects, rodents, etc. from coming in contact with your birds. Keeping human traffic to a minimum, and not allowing contact with sick birds, either directly or indirectly through. Keep a pan filled with bleach near your coop and dip your shoes before and after entering your coop. Also wash your hands before and after entering your chicken coop) 9. What is the relative humidity that helps eggs hold their maximum quality? (70-80%) 10. Do chickens ever have teeth? (Yes. They have an egg tooth at hatch to help break through the shell. This tooth is different from teeth as it is not composed of enamel) 11. What are some of the methods for verifying that a hen is currently laying egg? ( Width between pelvic bones equal the width of 3 human fingers, the vent is large, soft and moist rather than small and dry, comb is larger and redder) 12. What are 2 other names for the breast bone of chickens? (Sternum and Keel) 13. Other than feathers, what other features are unique to the male chickens? ( larger comb and wattles, coloring and spurs) 14. Why is diarrhea a concern and how can it be treated in chickens? (It can lead to dehydration and possibly death, one needs to rehydrate the chicken by providing electrolytes and water and then determine the cause. A high load of worms, coccidiosis or bacterial infection of the gut can often lead to diarrhea. 15. What is a hen? ( a female chicken one year or older)

Registration is due by March 1, At the time of registration, a nonrefundable $3.00 entry fee per rabbit is due. 5. Showmanship is mandatory. 6. Animals must be exhibited in good health. Any visible signs of illness will not be allowed to exhibit. 7. Animals will be eligible for auction/sale at the owners discretion. 8. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the show area during judging, unless authorized by show superintendent. 9. Cloverbuds may exhibit only. (No membership or entry fee required).

Exhibitors are required to arrange for bidders (buyers) on an individual basis. Exhibitors should write letters to at least three prospective buyers and follow up with a visit or phone call. 2. At initial registration pigs are encouraged to weigh between lbs. All hogs must weigh 200 lbs or more at final check-in, or will not be allowed to show in class or sell. Underweight hogs may be allowed to show in showmanship classes. 3. All animals must be owned by January 12, Each animal will be officially tagged by an agent or advisor. If youth need assistance with their swine purchase, they should contact Melvin Gaylard at (850) prior to December 1, Youth may weigh and enter up to two (2) (initial and final weigh in) animals; however, only one may be shown and housed at the show. 5. Hogs must be shown natural, no oils or powders. Clipping to no less than 1 is acceptable. 6. All swine are to be shown with a show stick, cane or pvc pipe. (**NO WHIPS!!**) 7. If the animal s identity is found to differ from initial weigh-in exhibitor will forfeit any prize money and/or sale proceeds, any add-ons and forfeit all rights and privileges to exhibit in the future. 8. All animals must go to slaughter or to appropriate stockyard. Since this is a terminal show, animals may not go back home for breeding purposes. (Department of Agriculture Guidelines). 9. All hogs will sell and they will be subject to the same fees as the steer sale. Exhibitors will be paid to a maximum of 300 pounds. 10. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the ring during any portion of the show, unless authorized by show superintendent. 11. Official committee will develop sale order and post. 12. Hogs may not compete at any other show where a sale is involved.

17 13. Standardized record books will be available online. These record books are due to the show superintendent on March 29, A record of show, which will include photos and story, will be due by April 8, 2019 no later than 4:30 P.M. A forfeiture of one third of all premiums will be made if the appropriate record books are not submitted in a timely manner, or if any portion of the record book is incomplete. 14. Youth, if participating in showmanship, can only show an animal that was shown in class. 15. Weight Gain- Premiums will be awarded for weight gain. 16. Swine of the Year award will be given to the one who has been awarded the most points based on the following activities: Showmanship, Record Book, Class Placing and Workshop. The highest total points will be recognized. The record book will be the tie breaker. Classes will be finalized after the show check-in. 2. If the animal s identity is found to differ from initial weigh-in exhibitor will forfeit any prize money and/or sale proceeds, any add-ons and forfeit all rights and privileges to exhibit in the future. 3. Market lambs shall be less than fourteen months old by show date. Market lambs with unknown birth dates shall not have shed the front two baby teeth. 4. Either sex may be shown in the Market lamb class, however, individual female lambs may not be shown in both Market & Breeding classes. 5. Market lambs must weigh a minimum of 25 pounds at check-in, and a minimum of 70 pounds at final weigh-in. 6. Youth may enter one market lamb class and as many breeding lambs as desired, however, premiums will be paid only on a total of three lambs (excluding showmanship premiums). 7. All market lambs must be owned by January 12, Breeding lambs must be owned by February 2, 2019 or leased at least 60 days prior to show date. These record books are due to the show superintendent on March 23, A record of show, which will include photos and story, will be due by April 4, 2018 no later than 4:30 P.M. A forfeiture of one third of all premiums will be made if the appropriate record books are not submitted in a timely manner, or if any portion of the record book is incomplete. Youth, if participating in showmanship, can only show an animal that was shown in the class.

Dairy Goat does must be registered in the youth s name or a Lease agreement must be in the Youth s name. A copy of the ADGA Registration papers for each animal and/or a copy of the Lease agreement must accompany each animal entry. Omission of these papers will forfeit the entry. 2. Dairy Goats must be dehorned. 3. For unregistered Dairy Goat does: Eligible to show in the Commercial class but must show at least 50 percent Dairy Goat genetic traits/characteristics. 4. Newborn Dairy Goat doe kids born after February 2, 2019 are eligible to show in the 0-3 month. This is the only exception for late entry into the Dairy Goat Doe show. Contact the Dairy Goat Superintendent to complete these entries by March 1, Due to late entry, these animals may not appear in the GCA & NRYO Exhibitor program. 5. Dairy Goat Doe Show Quality class order will be determined by breeds as recommended by the Florida State ADGA: (1) Commercial/Unregistered/Grade (2) Registered: Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Toggenburg, Oberhasli, Saanen, Sables, Alpines, LaMancha, all other breeds. 6. Youth must participate in Showmanship and must use a Dairy Goat doe exhibited in a Quality class as defined above. 7. Classes will be finalized after entry deadline date and/or March 1, 2019 as determined by the Superintendent.

All heifers must be owned by February 2, 2019 to be eligible to show. Heifers may be leased providing youth has possession of the animal at least 60 days prior to show. 2. Youth may show commercial or registered animals. Classes will be determined by official committee. 3. The minimum age at show time for heifers is five (5) months old. If heifer is under 7 months and not weaned, the animal may arrive on show day. 4. All entries for the Beef Heifers Show are due February 2, Please send entries to: Jacky Cunningham 2251 Hwy 97 Molino, FL (850) Each exhibitor may enter and show as many animals as desired. Premiums are paid up to a maximum of five (5) animals. 6. If the animal s identity is found to differ from registration exhibitor will forfeit any prize money and/or sale proceeds, any add-ons and forfeit all rights and privileges to exhibit in the future. 7. Exhibitors showing Registered Animals must make arrangements with the Beef Breeding Superintendent, Jacky Cunningham, to show original registration papers, lease agreements, and leave a copy of these papers for the GCA & NRYO. These papers need to be shown and a copy brought for the organization 1 week before or 1 week after the Grooming Clinic (a 2 week period). If the exhibitor cannot make the Grooming Clinic other arrangements will need to be made with the Beef Breeding Superintendent. 8. All beef heifers will be released one (1) hour after sale. For heifers 7 months old or younger and not weaned, the animal will be released 1 hour after the beef breeding show. 9. All entries must be tied with a neck rope and halter during duration of event.

24 10. All animals to be shown with a leather halter. 11. (No heifer will be allowed to be shown if over 30 months old). No animal will be allowed to show if they have given birth. All heifers must be calf hood vaccinated. All heifers over 24 months old must have a certificate stating that they are bred. 12. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the ring during any portion of the show, unless authorized by show superintendent. 13. At show time, no horns are permitted. 14. All commercial entries must have proof of ownership furnished at time of entry. 15. Standardized record books will be available online. These record books are due to the show superintendent at check-in, March 29, A record of show, which will include photos and story, will be due by April 8, 2019 no later than 4:30 P.M. A forfeiture of one third of all premiums will be made if the appropriate record books are not submitted in a timely manner, or if any portion of the record book is incomplete. 16. Youth, if participating in showmanship, can only compete with animals they previously showed in class. 17. Health certificates should be dated within 30 days of show date. 18. Heifer of the Year award will be given to the one who have been awarded the most points based on the following activities: Showmanship, Record Book, Class Placing and Workshop. The highest total points will be recognized. The record book will be the tie breaker. ADDITIONAL RULES FOR COW/CALF PAIR: 19. Cattle that have calved must be shown in Cow/Calf class only. Calves that are shown in this class must not exceed 205 days of age on date of show.

Box 653 Cantonment, FL th ANNUAL YOUTH STEER SHOW AND SALE STEER SHOW SUPERINTENDENT - SCOTT CUNNINGHAM 1. Exhibitors are required to arrange for bidders (buyers) on an individual basis. Exhibitors should write letters to at least three prospective buyers and follow up with a visit or phone call. 2. All animals will be classified according to weight by the official committee. 3. All steers must be HOMEGROWN (born in West Florida or South Alabama). 4. All steers must be born after September 1, At the initial weigh-in all animals must weigh a minimum of 700 lbs. If steer does not meet initial weight, youth will have two weeks to replace steer. Replacement steer will not be eligible for weight gain premiums. 6. At initial weigh-in all steers will be ear tagged and tattooed. Deworming, implanting and vaccinations will be available at this time for a small fee. All youth and all steers must be entered at initial weigh-in. Any youth-steer changes must be approved by the show superintendent by November 24, A signed Homegrown statement or Bill of Sale must be provided by the Breeder with contact information. 8. Youth may enter 2 steers at initial weigh-in, however, only one may be exhibited at final show and sale. 9. Please follow signs and wait your turn before unloading animals at final weighin. 10. If the animal s identity is found to differ from initial weigh-in exhibitor will forfeit any prize money and/or sale proceeds, any add-ons and forfeit all rights and privileges to exhibit in the future. 11. Steers will be provided stalls and assigned by official committee. Steers must remain tied during duration of event. 12. Washing and grooming areas will be designated with signs posted for your convenience. Washing and grooming will be allowed only in this area.

26 13. Youth must provide a 3" X 5" index card with information about their calves, and themselves along with health papers at the time of unloading. 14. This will be a Blow and Go show. There will be no glue or adhesive used on the steers. No maximum or minimum hair length. 15. All steers must gain a minimum of 1.5 lbs/day during the period from initial weigh-in to final weigh-in. They must gain a minimum of 2.0 lbs/day to be eligible for weight gain points. 16. Only foams and oils may be used during the show time grooming process. For clarification ask official committee or agents/advisory. 17. All steers must show with a leather halter unless approved by Show Superintendent and cannot be shown in Showmanship. 18. All steers will be tied with a neck rope and halter during the duration of this event, 19. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the ring during any portion of the show, unless authorized by show superintendent. 20. At show time, no horns are permitted. Scurs under 1" will be allowed. 21. All animals must show in order to sell. 22. Official committee will develop sale order and post. 23. Steers may not compete at any other show where a sale is involved. 24. Absolutely no drenching or use of drugs is allowed unless official committee approves. All drug withdrawal times shall be adhered to before slaughter. 25. A 3% commission will be held for show costs, insurance and awards dinner. 26. Exhibitors will be paid to a maximum of 1,400 lbs. 27. Steers will be shrunk 2% and sold the same. 28. Any animal determined to be uncontrollable will be disqualified and will be removed from the grounds. 29. Standardized record books will be available online. No steer will be allowed to be shown if over 16 months old. 7. Non-exhibitors will not be allowed in the ring during any portion of the show, unless authorized by show superintendent. 8. At show time, no horns are permitted. 9. Youth, if participating in showmanship, must show the animal exhibited in class. *Record books are not collected for preview steers.

30 GCA & NRYO LIVESTOCK SHOW AND SALE Youth Animal Science Project Agreement (to be completed at beginning of project ) I, agree to be responsible for caring for this animal, which will include feeding, worming, providing clean water, provide adequate housing, grooming and showing. I understand the intent of this project is to be an educational tool to learn life skills as well as those in the livestock industry. I understand that success in this project is not only determined in the show ring but also in how well I keep records. I am responsible for keeping accurate and complete records for this project.
