A registered non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization Published monthly by Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies aving watched many foster dogs turn into adopted dogs, I should not have been surprised. My wife and I fostered five GRRR dogs before we got snagged. On a sunny Saturday not too long ago, my wife and I and our visiting daughter (whose trips always include a visit to GRRR) came by to see all the sweet dogs. One little 10-month-old dog came out of the day kennel with one of our VIP walkers. The woman handed the leash to my wife so she could tie her shoe, and that s all it took! Cody, a Golden-Cocker mix, looked at my wife and daughter and our fate was sealed. The following Monday we took Cody home to foster. Two weeks later, someone express a possible interest. I mentioned it to my wife and you would have thought I had three heads. Of course we want to keep him! I m a guy, so I frequently miss the obvious. Cody has been with us for a few months now and is a perfect fit. He and our Aussie, Zoey, are best buddies and keep each other busy. We are working on loose leash walking, and although he has the strength to pull a Buick around the block he is making progress. His favorite toy is a stuffed bear that is almost the same size as him. Poor bear. I ve learned to really appreciate our wonderful foster folks who do such a great job getting many of our dogs ready for forever homes. I love all the dogs, but if I bring home any more you may find me sleeping in the kennels at night.

Save the Date for the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies Gala We hope you will join us July 18 (Saturday) for the GRRR Gala at the Tivoli-Turnhalle Center in Denver. It s sure to be a very special GRRR Gala event. The theme this year will be A Golden Salute honoring our wounded warriors and the dogs that serve them. This event will feature special guest-speaker Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan and his service dog, Tuesday. Captain Montalvan is a Purple Heart recipient and a NY Times Best-Selling author of "Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him." Don t miss it. We are collecting donations for both the live- and silent auctions and are soliciting sponsors for our gala with prominent recognition. Contact kevin.shipley@goldenrescue.com to help. This will be a very special event, don t miss it. Stay tuned to goldenrescue.com or follow GRRR on Facebook for gala event updates. goldenrescue.com Mike Shaw Subaru is now a premier sponsor of this year s gala. Mike Shaw joins Doerksen and Assoc., PC as gala sponsors. Get your name in lights and become a sponsor of this year s gala.

y passion for GRRR stems from my great love for Golden Retrievers and my desire to find them the permanent, loving, and safe homes that they deserve. I have the privilege of bringing more than 10 years of executive-level experience from nonprofit organizations including Rocky Mountain PBS, Healing Waters, and MOPS International. I have served as the highest-ranking finance officer with overall responsibility for annual budgets ranging from just over $1 million to well over $15 million. I received my undergraduate degree in Finance from Creighton University and have a Master s Degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California and a Master s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado. I am also an active Certified Public Accountant. I live in Golden with my husband, Brent, and my two boys, Grayson (12) and Jack (8), and two wonderful Goldens, Tucker (6) and Tank (5). Our family owns and operates GFORCE Powersports in Lakewood where we sell and service various brands of motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, scooters and watercraft. We have owned GFORCE since 2006 and I serve as the CFO. e are having another training session for the VIP Team on Saturday, March 21st. It will be held at Phoebe's Place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Carole McMurry from Peebody Dog Training will be our instructor. Carole has years of dog training experience to share with us so that we can work with the dogs more effectively. Subjects to be covered include, loose leash walking, getting in and out of the kennel run, how to put on the training collar correctly, dog body language and much more. Training is not required but is highly encouraged for all members of the VIP Team. Learning some manners helps the dogs become more adoptable. Ways to Give In the past few months I've discovered that we haven't done a great job of communicating some available options for people wishing to support GRRR. So here are a few. They can all be found on our website (www.goldenrescue.com) under Other Ways to Give. Do you know about Naming tributes: Did you know that with a $100 donation you may request a Naming Tribute, so that one of our rescued GRRR dogs will be named after your loved one, dog or person? You will be honoring their memory and it is a great way to express sympathy. Gifts in memory or in honor of: If your life or the life of someone else has been profoundly impacted by a Golden Retriever or a person, you can make a gift in their honor or memory and we will send that person (or their family) a card letting them know a donation was made in their honor. Company and/or employee matches: Did you know that GRRR participates in several forms of retail, corporate, and employee match programs? These programs have contributed thousands of added dollars to GRRR. Here s a list of match programs we participate in: EnCana Cares, IBM, Google, Benevity, Great West, Allstate, Illinois Tool Works, Amazon Smiles, igive, Macy s Shop for a cause, YourCause, Wooftrax, Combined Federal Campaign (for state & federal workers). If your company has a match program please let us know. We would love to sign up. If you know of other match programs, please let us know about those that too.
