A registered non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization Published monthly by Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies he ingredients were all there for a celebration friendly people, a relaxed setting, good food, and lots and lots and lots of heartwarming dog stories! Tuesday, May 7, was the 4th annual GRRR VIP Walkers Gettogether at The Morrison Inn. The VIP team is made up of dedicated GRRR volunteers who regularly go to Phoebe s Place to spend time with and to walk the dogs who temporarily reside there until they find their forever homes. What a fun group we had at The Morrison Inn! This annual occasion gives those of us on the VIP team a chance to get acquainted, or re-acquainted, and put a face to an address, since we all exchange weekly s regarding scheduling (coordinated by Bill Urbanowski) but are at Phoebe s Place on different days and times. It s a given that we have all fallen in love multiple times with pups who find their way to GRRR while they await their forever homes. We have all heard of foster failures, but in the VIP group we have quite a few walking failures (Goldens who never make it beyond Phoebe s Place before being snatched up to a loving forever home with a VIPer). Certainly this is something to celebrate at a get-together. Then there are the walkers who don t have a dog themselves or who have chosen another breed for their family. These, too, are very special people. Again, certainly this is something to celebrate at a get-together. Then, of course, there are all the rest of us who have Goldens and Golden-mix dogs of all ages and descriptions all greatly loved. Certainly this is yet another wonderful reason to celebrate at a get-together. Everyone had a terrific evening! We hope we will have many more opportunities to gather, celebrate and have lots of fun... just as we have these first four years!
appy spring everyone! So, big news that I d love to share with you all Sullivan and I will be transferring our passion and love for GRRR, Phoebe s Place, and all our sweet dogs to a different position this month. I am relinquishing my role as the Volunteer Coordinator (newly appointed member to be named in another announcement) in order to be Mary Kenton s assistant at Phoebe s Place! Sul and I are so excited for this opportunity. Mary will be training me on the ins and outs of intake, foster care, the daily needs of all of the dogs, etc., with the goal that I will be out at Phoebe s Place two days a week after I ve been properly trained in order to give Mary much needed and long overdue time off. This transition means so many things but mainly that I ll see many of you even more and will have the honor of assisting Mary in taking care of all the Golden souls. It is a perfect match in so many ways and I am just thrilled (Did I say that already?). I look forward to hearing from our new Volunteer Coordinator and seeing you all out at Phoebe s Place this summer. Best, Kelli and my sweet GRRR boy, Sullivan Moose's card has been chosen to be sold in Hallmark stores across the country starting June 20th! He'll be making a personal appearance at Stacy's Hallmark Shop at 5111 Kipling Street in Arvada to promote his card on July 13th. Stop by and say hi!
aturday, May 4, was sunny, and the location at Wilmore Nursery gave front-and-center visibility to the happy Goldens and their enthusiastic GRRR-volunteer owners. This was a Hey! look me over event to acquaint people with GRRR what we re all about and how we find new, safe and loving homes for displaced dogs. And did the Wilmore shoppers ever come! There was always a steady stream, and sometimes a crowd, of eager visitors who loved on the pups, talked with the volunteers, picked up literature, and bought GRRR merchandise. Some people were getting to know us, and others already knew about, and had connections with, GRRR. This was a first-time event for GRRR at Wilmore Nursery, organized beautifully by Pat Rogers, GRRR s Event Coordinator. The consensus was that it was wonderfully successful! With an extra round of thanks to those GRRR members who volunteered and to Wilmore Nursery for inviting us, we ll hope to do it again next year. Busy busy! Beautiful Golden

hat could be better than about 10 Golden Retrievers and 500 young girls all mingled together at the finish line of a 5K race? Imagine the squeals of delight as pups, parents, and youngsters celebrated the accomplishments of the girls who took part in the May 11th Girls on the Run race at City Park. Just as GRRR strives to instill confidence and social skills in some of the rescue dogs, the mission of Girls on the Run is similar: It delivers a strong message to young girls through volunteer coaches and mentors. Their 10- to 12- week character-building program of experiential learning through running teaches very specific and well-defined social and personal skills. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5K run event, which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. It was at the conclusion of the run where the girls met and bonded with dogs from GRRR. The pups were there to reinforce the lessons of the last ten weeks to greet those first across the finish line, and to share the same amount of enthusiasm with those who crossed it last. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The organization s core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls development their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors. The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. One of the organization s core values is to express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions. What better lessons could the girls learn from our Goldens? We d like to extend a big thank-you to all the Goldens and their people who made it out for this fun and inspiring event. You, too, made a difference in these young girls lives. The Gang!

t first glance, the scene at Phoebe s Place on May 19th looked like a giant dog party a sea of happy and goofy Goldens playing in the perfect spring sunshine. The baseball-themed event included a barbecue and potluck; merchandise sales, raffle baskets and prizes; pawdicures; a run the bases game (testing both the dog s speed and obedience skills); and the more chaotic and free-for-all ball toss. But most of us know the Spring Fling represents so much more. These are the dogs who came to us sick, lost, abandoned, abused or neglected. These are the beautiful dogs we have rescued, nurtured, cared for and loved. These are the dogs who will always be a part of the GRRR family and who have now happily bonded with their forever families (or will soon be adopted). And so the Spring Fling is a chance for all of us who have rescued Goldens to proudly come together as part of the GRRR family and celebrate what we now have and love. Thanks GRRR and all the volunteers who make this possible. Amy Kessler and Chester Bill Urbanowski with Jackie Deb Kneal and Bob Jorgensen with Owen Bob Hildenbrand with his hands full
