Pennsylvania District 14 D Lions June 2018 PAGE DISTRICT 14 - DETAILS June 2018 District 14 D- Details June 9th-Cabinet Meeting June 23 2rd-Hempfield Area Centennial Lions Club Charter Night June 29th to July 3rd International Convention A Message from District Governor Bill Brown Well this is my last newsletter, as District Governor. It has been a year of many new changes, and new ideas. This year we have Chartered a New Club, and one Branch club. The new District Fundraiser Glow in the Dark Dance Party was great, because of the excellent job the committee did. District and Clubs have gotten publicity in Tv interviews, and radio. My wife and I plan to finish Hispanic Latino Lancaster Cultural Club in DGE Gene Hilton s year. It is progressing nicely. I want to thank the District Governor s Team who did an excellent job. It was hard to get All Lions on the same page to acknowledge and accept new and exciting changes from Lion s Club International. My wife and I are so proud to be part of Lions 101st century. The phrase: this how we always did it has expired. And, we now look for new ideas, and moving forward in Lionism. The State Convention was super, and everyone had a great time. Congratulations to DGE Gene Hilton, and his sweet wife Marita. I know they will have a Super year embracing LCI new guidelines. Also Congratulations to 1stVGE Bill Graiger and Sharon his wife, and 2ndVDE Roy Estes, and Evanna, his wife, also. This is a great line-up of District 14-D next leaders. I m so Proud of clubs working hard to get new members. Great Lionism Spirit. Don t forget to record your clubs Legacies. Deadline to record for Centennial is June 30, 2018. I wish everyone great success in their Clubs. Thank you, to All Lions, Lioness, Leo s and everyone s family. Fellowship with others, with conviction of solidarity that joins all humanity together for a common goal to serve. Bill Brown, DG

PAGE 3 DISTRICT 14 - DETAILS June 2018 Thoughts from the 1st Vice District Governor, Gene Hilton Howdy Lions! June already, where has the time gone? May was awesome! I met International President Naresh Aggarwal. He is a very humble man with a great message. His message, if each club got one new member, we would have a positive growth for this year. Just one member per club, think about it. Your club could be the one to put us on the plus side. Think outside the box. Ask your neighbor to join you at a service project. Stress the service side of your club. Our motto is "we serve". It's not we eat dinner of we go to meetings. It's "we serve". That's what we do. It's most important. Not everyone can, or wants to, go to meetings. Think of ways to incorporate their time into your club. A partnership, if you will. When was the last time your club got a new member? Now is the time. The District Governor's team is waiting to induct your clubs new member. Come on, shake the trees, rattle some windows. Find that new member! In June, the final Cabinet meeting for this Lionistic year is June 9. On June 23 our newest club, the Hempfield Centennial Lions Club will hold their first Charter night. Come on out and feel their enthusiasm. The month finishes up with the 101st International Convention in Las Vegas, NV. I'll be there, how about you? Greetings from the 2nd Vice District Governor, William Grager As we reflect on the many events of the past month, I would like to thank you for electing me to the position of 1 st Vice District Governor for the 2018-2019 Lionistic year, and affording me the opportunity to serve the Lions, Lionesses, and Leos of our great District. As I embark on activities to grow even more toward the leadership position of 14-D, I ask for your continued help and support. I also ask that you keep me informed of service projects and fundraising activities of your Clubs, so that I may participate with you and attain an even greater realization of the Power of We. Realizing not only the successful District events of our recent past, Presidents Honor Night, District Convention, and Glow in the Dark fundraiser, but also the numerous Club activities, Charter Night celebrations, Chicken Barbecues, Community Breakfasts, one can plainly see the impact that we make in our communities and throughout our District. As we continue doing what we do best, humanitarian service, I wish you all well for a strong and rewarding finish to our year. Recently returning from the MD-14 Convention at Penn State, one cannot help reflecting on the enlightening sessions with their educational presentations, displays promoting the focal points of our initiatives, and the inspirational keynote speakers with their encouragement to reach even greater heights. IP Dr. Naresh Aggarwal and PIP Joe Wroblewski served as an inspiration to all through both words and actions. One cannot help feeling rejuvenated to the cause of even greater achievement in meeting the needs of those whom we serve. Some upcoming dates of activities in which I strongly encourage participation are: June 9, Cabinet Meeting, 1:00 PM, Lancaster Tennis and Yacht Club; Hempfield Area Centennial Club Charter Night celebration, June 23, 6:00 PM, Lancaster Tennis and Yacht Club (reservation form is included in the May and June Newsletters). And finally, the International Convention, June 29 July 3, in Las Vegas. I look forward to sharing with you in these culminating events of the year. As we see the approaching end of our Centennial year, let s finish with a load ROAR focusing on leadership, membership, and service. I look forward to a strong finish with you and our continued service together.

PAGE 14 DISTRICT 14 - DETAILS Centennial Service Challenge Goal for month of June is : Celebrating Lionism, and Embrace the 101st Century We have made it to the 101st Century. PAGE 15 DISTRICT 14 - DETAILS June 2018 FAB 4 LIONESS CLUBS JUNE 2018 STORMY GREETINGS! As I write this the weather is still acting like a spoiled brat, storms, some sun & more storms, even tornado warnings! At least we don t have a volcano nearby that is set to blow its top. PDG Tom & I recently attended the joint charter night of Heidelberg Lioness Club (35 years) & the Heidelberg Lions Club ( 75 years). It was a pleasant night with Lion Deano entertaining. My Lititz Lioness Club recently held a celebration of their 36th anniversary. Blue Ball Lioness have 36 years & Millersville Lioness Club has the most with 40 years. Wonderful years of giving back! Women in Lionism: The Lioness Program began in 1975 with the first club becoming active on December 14, 1975. I wish I knew where that was, but couldn t find that info. When I lived in Massachusetts the women helped the Lions in an auxiliary type of position. I would suppose that many Lions clubs got help in this manner, from which the Lioness clubs grew. Women were approved for Lions membership in 1987 with Lions International being the first service organization to admit women with the 1st woman being inducted into a Lions club on December 24, 1975 Merry Xmas! I have recently spoken to Lioness Clubs about the Lioness Bridging Program. As I mentioned in the May newsletter, it is an option & a choice for the future of a club & I realize that it is not for everyone, but worth some thought. June, heading into summer, hot weather, picnics, vacations. I m going to do my best not to complain about the heat, after being so cold this past winter that just did not want to give up the hold it had on the world. Some clubs take time off in the summer, some have picnics with a dab of business. Keep in mind that food drives are important in the summer months when kids are out of school & home for lunches. No big deal to set aside a day for a food drive to give a boost to the local food banks & help those in need. The Peace Poster Contest is also a project you can offer to a school in your community. Kits can be purchased from Lions International, ready to go when school opens in Sep- tember. I wish you all a pleasant, safe summer with good times with family & friends. Remember to chill out so that you are set to serve again in the WE SERVE mode. ENJOY, LIONESS CO PDG KATHY
