The 2014 National Specialty will be held in Sandusky OH in June with the host club the Irish Setter Club of Michigan. Deb has made an inquiry about obtaining several packets.

Website- www.gtisc.org All information and updates are available on our website. Check in periodically throughout the month for the most up to date club news. Please continue to send your own personal photos and updates to Deb to be added to our website. As always, thank you to Tammy Boice to keeping our website up to date. New Membership We have received an application from Cathryn Brandau and her granddaughter, Taylor. We are hoping that they can make the May Meeting so we can officially make them members. They reside in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh. Cathryn had Irish Setters many years ago and contacted us for a show male. She now owns a male from Mary Merlo, Evergreen Irish Setters. From the Rescue Side~~~~ HI Everyone. Joan Fiser here again. I was hoping that maybe one of the club members other than me would write about their rescues. We do have a few that have rescues and who also work for shelters finding homes for these wonderful animals. Over the years I have helped animals other than dogs and other than Red dogs. For 20 plus years I have my cat that was thrown from a car window when she was only few weeks old. Lucky for HOPE, she was rescued by a state trooper who stopped traffic to pick this little black and white kitten up off the road. In doing this, the "Bad" guys got away. I was a founding member and board officer of Rainbow Animal Refuse, INC. here in Butler and it is still helping animals today! We had only been together for about a year and then we got a call from a local vet telling us about Hope. Would we help with her expenses and find her a home? YES.. Hope was fostered by a member of Rainbow. She had her right front leg removed to the shoulder, and her left front leg was broken. So our Nancy from the club took Hope home and kept her till she was able to be adopted. I took Hope to Life Steps and other projects to show that even a cat can overcome disabilities. Hope stayed with this person and that person most of her young life. She was a one cat home. This made it hard to find her a home. My brother even kept her where she had the pleasure of being inside and outside. Then she came back to me and I couldn't keep her with my dogs seemed to want to hurt her. So to Pet Co she went to be adopted. She stayed there for about a month no one wanted her. The board at that time decided the best thing would be to put her down. I stepped in said no way So she had lived at my store in Butler for 10 years. I think she got other store owners to adopt cats for their stores. Hope had her favorite people coming in on their lunch breaks to buy things for her. So in 2009 when I retired and closed my store in Butler, Hope came home to live with me. She is still going strong and making the Red Dogs crazy. Give all of yours a HUG. God Bless. Joan and MY Red Heads

Hope An update on the young male Irish setter, Guinness, at Animal Friends: Joan reports he has been adopted. We welcome back to our Rescue Column Bailey who owns Laura and now new little sister, Abbey. We are pleased to have received this in time to make this month s news letter. Hello all,,, Do you remember me? I am Bailey from Baltimore. Mom and I contributed for quite some time as it turns out. I have had my forever home for 6 years now. Tonight was very special for us. We read through the archives and relived our journey. From Congratulations to us March 2007 and then my Mom's straight from the heart "Ode to ME,,, Bailey April 2007. We had a good ride for a long time. But then life happened. We participated pretty much until my Grandma Fizzle became ill and passed in 2010. So, we have been absent. Maybe absent from the column but not absent at home. Ruby and I were here with Mom the whole time. I knew how to kiss and sit by my Grand mom Fizzle and how to lay right next to Mom and Ruby through the tough times. To get you all up to date. I am one handsome gentleman these days. I am the proud boy of my Mom. I greet guests with a paw, not a jump. I gently kiss when invited and walk people to the kitchen when they need anything. Then I lie down on my wag bag and enjoy the company of all who visit. Ruby growing along with me. She was a bit more spry than I, but we were like peas and carrots. When Mom said Bed we went. Ruby on the bed and me on my way bag. I'd like to say we did everything together, different paces but side by side. March 1st, I lost my little sister, to an unusual event. Mom and I walking around not knowing what to do. So, Mom did what she always does. "Call the ones who love the red dogs." Aunt Deb asked "what is the plan?." Mom said her and I were so very lost and, as you know, from our columns "there is always room for 2." Some people need time. Some people jump in with both feet. Mom and I are jumpers. We put it in Aunt Deb and God's hands, knowing when it's time it will happen. Turns out it happened immediately. Too fast to even think about it. Mom and Aunt Wendi went to Virginia Beach and life began again. So, Mom and I happily announce, I have a new little sister. Her name is Abbey. We have tossed the spelling around a bit, but we decided on Abbey from the Beatles, because as you older followers will remember WE SING IN THIS HOUSE. When Mom sings Abbey runs to her and nuzzles. I simply raise my head from the way bag and wink. My bones are getting a little older. THE BEST NEWS I CAN SHARE IS... NOW I'M THE BOSS. Took 6 years to be head of the household but I am (after Mom of course). Ruby was not a fan of sharing the bed. Lately, I wander up there and just lay down. But I still prefer my wag bag for the most part. And guess what? Abbey finds a spot too. Only for awake time. Abbey must sleep in her bedroom kennel when lights go out for safety. I notice she understands that and that's not a problem. Now me snoring has become a bit of an issue. Mom moves down to the bottom of the bed and reaches to my bag where I sleep and rubs my tummy and says "move over". I get it. I move around a bit and slow the snoring down. I do understand that she needs a little sleep too. Nice to say Hi to you all again. We remain very happy in Baltimore with much to share,,, So Goodbye for now... Mom, Bailey Handsome and Sweet Abbey. (She's sweet but doesn't know how much Mom and I miss Little Ruby... but she has softened the loss for sure.)

Rescues are our Champions of the Heart! Club News and Reminders Please RSVP to Bob and/or Shirley about Memorial Day weekend. Once our shows are behind us, we would like to have some meetings to include guests/speakers. If there is a particular subject that you would care to learn about, please share your thoughts and ideas. We also want to schedule CGC testing, which is for EVERYONE. If there is an event you would like for us to hold, please share your ideas. Our Members Fall Fun Day had to be cancelled last fall. We would like to schedule that again this year. It is a great social day for our members. Our next general membership meeting is Saturday May 25 th, at the show site following BOB and our end of the day festivities approximately 2:30 3:00 p.m. We will meet at the ring.
