From the Rescue Side~~~~ Tails From the Hills New Year s Edition By Bella O Shea Ace canine reporter For the past few months Ed and I have been collecting quotable quotes for the new year: Dogs.do not ruin their sleep worrying how to keep the objects they have, and obtain objects they have not. There is nothing they have to bequeath except their love and their faith. Eugene O Neill When the Man waked up he said, what is Wild Dog doing here? And the Woman said, His name is not Wild Dog anymore, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always. Rudyard Kipling I used to look at my dog and think if you were a little smarter you could tell me what you were thinking, and he would look at me like he was saying if you were a little smarter I wouldn t have to. Fred Jungles I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship from a dog that you can get from no other source. Doris Day I think dogs are the most amazing creatures, they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. Gilda Radner We give dogs time we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It s the best deal man ever made. Dogs teach us many things about being a better person..that people don t teach. Unknown M. Faclam He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. Unknown
For me a house or apartment becomes a home when you add one set of four legs, a happy tail, and that indescribable measure of love that we call a dog. Roger Caras While he has not in my hearing, spoken the English language, he makes it perfectly plain he understands it. And he uses his ears, tail, and eyebrows, various rumbles and grunts, the slant of his great cold nose, or a succession of heart rendering sighs to get his meaning across. Jean Little And now a not so brief announcement from my people: ATTENTION. ATTENTION. ATTENTION.. Our Day has been darkened by every Dog Lover s worst nightmare. On Tuesday December 12 at 4:30 PM, while Pam and I were at the barn mucking stalls, Bella ran through the tunnel and on to route 60 with heavy Christmas traffic! Ed received a broken up cell phone call from a female saying that someone or something was going down the busy highway. He counted horses and asked for a repeat of the information as the reception was very poor on the cordless phone. We were over 300 yards from the house. It seems that Bella was at the end of the driveway smelling for kitties at the garbage drop and followed neighbors out through the tunnel. In a panic Ed ran from the barn, down the very long driveway, and through the twenty yards or so of water in the tunnel underpass. With water in his shoes and wet to the knees and in thirty five degree weather Ed was in a frantic attempt to find our beloved dog while Pam ran up the steep hill to get the truck parked by the house. After Picking Ed up on the other side of the tunnel they drove down the road. Which way is down the road? No Bella there! Then Pam took Ed up and dropped him off at Help for Animals which is five blocks up route 60 from Goose Creek Road. Ed was inquiring to see if Bella was there badly injured from the traffic. No success,! Ed left his phone number and started walking back down route sixty. Pam with her female intuition and saying a prayer, headed back down the road to a car that was parked across the road and down from the tunnel. Bella was in the back seat of the car! The lady foresaw the impending disaster and called for her and into the back seat of her car Bella leaped. Pam introduced herself as one of Bella s People. This local lady who is now known as our hometown hero was busily talking on her cell phone trying to make contact with us. The phone number on Bella s ID tag was not updated with our new number! The lady agreed to follow Pam back down the road toward Help for Animals where Ed met the lady that lovingly picked up Belle from the middle of a busy route sixty. After a brief period of crying, thanking, and hugging, Bella, Ed, and Pam were reunited. The lady, Robbyn Thompson, is a teacher at the local high school. She is a hometown hero, at least to us. BTW, she was a former student of Ed and remembered him from years earlier.. We thanked Robbyn who owns an 11 year afghan hound. On Wednesday, December 13, Bella, Pam, Ed, and the mouse went to PetCo for new ID tag and collar. Bella s ID tag had the old phone number on her making it impossible for Robbyn to contact us. Bella now has a large, shiny, heart shaped ID embellished with rhinestones to sport around her neck. It is engraved with our names and current phone number. As an afterthought we should have also included her Home Again microchip registration number. Pam and I from now on are not going to let our guard down with Bella ever again! She is like our doxie crew and is subject to the moment of curiosity, which killed the cat!!!! We hope everyone has a Happy New Year. Our New Year s Resolution is to try to keep up with Bella and our doxies! Never take a second for granted. We do not want to lose her. Hopefully we can keep her till she becomes a grand ole dame with a pretty white face. Pam and I are thankful that we did not have to put Bell s picture on a poster for a lost dog, or something worse. We love this goofy creature and our home would not be the same without her and the Doxie crew. Final thought.. We never really own anything in life; we only have a little time to enjoy what little we have. Happy New Year and Love to all, Bella O Shea and Her people, Ed & Pam ISCA Membership Dues Update For any GTISC members who are also members of the Irish Setter Club of America, please note that Membership renewals sent back in November and possibly early December have been lost in the mail.
