I am a Veterinarian Middle School Math Project

Congratulations you are a veterinarian and will be opening up your very own animal clinic! You have a few things you must figure out before you can start seeing animals. Let s begin! Name your animal clinic. Decide where your clinic is going to be located. List the types of animals your clinic specializes in. Sketch the border of your clinic and determine the area and perimeter. Perimeter: Yard Area: Yard

You have $100,000 to get some medical supplies for your clinic. You will need things like veterinarian tables, medical kits with bandages and needles, medical machines, and antibiotics. Write an expression that represents the total cost if you decide to buy 3 veterinarian tables (T), 100 medical kits (K), 3 medical machines (M), and 250 antibiotics (A). The tables you would like to purchase are sold in two different places. You must decide which place offers the best value. Option 1 2 table for $2,500 Option 2 3 table for $3,705 Which option should you choose? How much will each table cost? Explain.. Fill in any missing information from the chart: Cost of each item: veterinarian tables (T): medical kits (K): $129 medical machines (M): $14,520 antibiotics (A): $55 Using the expression you wrote at the top of the page, determine how much money you are going to spend on medical supplies.

Do you have enough money for all your medical supplies? If so how much money do you have left over? Now that you have your medical supplies in order, let s talk salary. The average veterinarian makes near $80,000 per year. Based on your education and location you will be making 18% more than this amount. How much money will you make per year? If you worked 40 hours a week for 50 weeks out of the year, how much would you be making per hour? (Round to the nearest cent if necessary) Write an expression that represents how much you would make per hour on holidays if you earned time and a half. How much would you make per hour on holidays?

Now that we have figured out your salary, let s talk about the animals. You plan to see 200 animals a week on average. Of the 200: 3/5 will be dogs 25% will be cats The remaining fraction will be other types of animals. Fill in the table below to find out how many animals are seen each week in each category. Animals Seen Each Week Type of Animal Number of Animals dogs cats other What fraction represents the number of *other* animals seen each week: Use the area below if extra room for scratch work is needed.

I am a Veterinarian -Answer Key-

Congratulations you are a veterinarian and will be opening up your very own animal clinic! You have a few things you must figure out before you can start seeing animals. Let s begin! Name your animal clinic. Decide where your clinic is going to be located. List the types of animals your clinic specializes in. Sketch the border of your clinic and determine the area and perimeter. Write an expression that represents the total cost if you decide to buy 3 veterinarian tables (T), 100 medical kits (K), 3 medical machines (M), and 250 antibiotics (A). 3T + 100K + 3M + 250A The tables you would like to purchase are sold in two different places. You must decide which place offers the best value. Option 1 2 table for $2,500 Option 2 3 table for $3,705 Which option should you choose? How much will each table cost? Explain. Option 2 because it would cost $1,235 per table. Option 1 costs a little bit more at $1,250 per table. Fill in any missing information from the chart: Cost of each item: veterinarian tables (T): $1,235 medical kits (K): $129 medical machines (M): $14,520 antibiotics (A): $55 Using the expression you wrote at the top of the page, determine how much money you are going to spend on medical supplies. $73,915

Do you have enough money for all your medical supplies? Explain. Yes, $73,915 is less than $100,000. So I have enough money. If so how much money do you have left over? There will be $26,085 left over. Now that you have your medical supplies in order, let s talk salary. The average veterinarian makes near $80,000 per year. Based on your education and location you will be making 18% more than this amount. How much money will you make per year? $94,400 If you worked 40 hours a week for 50 weeks out of the year, how much would be making per hour? (Round to the nearest cent if necessary) $47.20 per hour Write an expression that represents how much you would make per hour on holidays if you earned time and a half. $47.20 3 2 OR $47.20 1.5 How much would you make per hour on holidays? $70.80 per hour

Now that we have figured out your salary, let s talk about the animals. You plan to see 200 animals a week on average.
