The Ashrose stud has 900 stud breeding ewes under the direction of the Graetz family with David, Tim and Jono as stud principals. The family also runs a David Graetz large commercial Merino flock. The Ashrose stud focuses on breeding commercially-based rams, aiming for fast growth rates, with a large uncomplicated frame draped in stylish, soft handling, white, positive microning wools, with high comfort factor and yield. The rams are suited to extreme climates, from the pastoral regions right through to the high rainfall areas of Mount Gambier Tim Graetz and into Vic. Ashrose has gone against the trend and endeavours to run rams with minimal supplementary feeding (season permitting) to offer a commercially true, transparent ram to their clients. Ashrose rams will be on display at the SA Stud Merino Expo at Burra oval on March 22, the South East Merino field day at Keith on July 27 and on property at their annual sale on August 25. Enquiries and inspections are always welcome. Details: Tim Graetz or David Graetz Brimanna Brimanna is situated 23 kilometres north-west of Yeelanna on the Eyre Peninsula. After another successful year in 2015 we look forward to offering more top quality sires for your selection. The return of happy clients and the addition of new clients is giving us great confidence that we are on the right track, Jayden Harris producing rams that not only exhibit the characteristics we are striving for but breed on out in the paddock. We will be exhibiting at both the SA Stud Merino Expo in Burra as well as the EP Pre-Sale Merino Expo at Wudinna. Well-grown young rams will be on display and later offered at our on property ram sale. Progeny offered will feature the sons from Minta 215. Sons from this ram were of exceptional quality in last year s sale and his next drop are showing early potential with rich, well-nourished wools on sound frames. More sons of Ridgway Advance B80 and his son Brimanna 040 will also feature with their free-growing, white, deep crimping wools and remarkable early growth. We look forward to seeing you at one of the expos or at our on property sale on July 25. Please don t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. Details: Jayden Harris or , brimanna@yahoo.com Bunyara The Bunyara Merino and Poll Merino studs, founded in 1978, are located at Moculta, north-east of the Barossa Valley, aim to produce large-framed, plain-bodied sheep with stylish free-growing, long-stapled wool. At Bunyara we strive to have early maturing sheep that produce bulky quality wool. At the Ian Koch 31st annual on property auction, 72 rams sold to a top of $4000, for a Merino ram, and averaged $1485, giving clients the opportunity to purchase quality sires at affordable prices. Bunyara genetics are an ideal fit for meat and wool production for breeding and commercial flocks. Rams are suited to a wide range of environments and conditions, from pastoral properties to cropping and sheep enterprises and high rainfall grazing. This year at the 32nd on property sale on September 15, we are aiming to have full ASBV figures on all sale rams. This year s rams are available for inspection at local country shows, the Merino expo at Burra in March, the Karoonda field day at Murray Bridge in August, and the Royal Adelaide Show and pre-sale inspection day in September. Calcookara At Calcookara we have always strived to breed a large, plain-bodied animal with the whitest and softest wool possible. Our wool clip in 2015 was testament to this with 100 per cent of the fleeces shorn all making the main line. This was with a wet autumn and winter period, and we doubt that many other studs could claim such an accolade. This wool also measured between Brenton Smith 18.5 and 19.1 micron and was sold in October for an average of 1017c/kg or $1900 a bale in what had been a fading wool market. This is proof that quality sells at a premium. Our 2015 on property auction was a very solid one with 76 rams penned. We achieved a total clearance with 12 rams selling from the selection team after the sale. The auction averaged a very respectable $1233 with almost 50 ASBVs of the team selling for under $1000, making them very affordable for anyone s budget. The top price ram was again sired by L858, making $3600 and going to the Haggarty family in WA. He was an extremely large upstanding ram with a plain body and white, elite, well nourished wool that measured at 19.2µ with a body weight of 107 kg. The pleasing part of this was that the Haggartys rang to tell us that it had put on a massive amount of condition since arriving in WA in late September and was growing at a rate of knots. Another WA client in Len and Rosalie Hill sold a line of wether lambs at only 4.5 months of age for $109 a head in September, another example of early maturing animals. Our 2016 auction will be held on Friday, September 2 with inspection from 11.30am and the sale starting at 1.30pm. A pre-sale inspection day will be held on August 26 from 1-5pm. Details Brenton Smith or Carricowie Carricowie Poll Merino stud was established in 1984 with mated stud ewes from Orrie Cowie stud. Our stud is renowned for breeding big framed sheep with heavy-cutting, well-nourished, soft handling, white wool of a medium quality. Each year we run an artificial insemination program using genetics to enhance our objectives. All sale rams are paddock run and exhibit tremendous potential, helping our clients achieve great results. Progeny will be available from Moorundie Park B306, Terrick West 1.3, Collinsville and Carricowie sires. Robin, Judith, Bronte and Lee are excited about the 2016 sale team and look forward to welcoming clients and friends to our on property sale on Tuesday, August 23 at 2.30pm. We will also be having a display at the SA Stud Merino Expo at Burra. Robin Blyth Bronte Blyth Merino Annual

2 2016 Day Two Burra Oval Collinsville The Collinsville tradition began in 1889 with the purchase of 20,000 hectares by John Collins. The registration of the stud in 1895 launched a genetic strain that would eventually become one of the most dominant in the world. The stud is selling genetics throughout Australia and last year sold to Argentina, South Africa and China. Collinsville produces superior genetics with a consistent commitment to commercial profitability, directly influencing a large number of flocks across Australia. Our ongoing aim is to breed sheep that are large-framed, plain-bodied, early maturing while producing true heavy-cutting, stylish medium wool fleeces. Our stud ewes average 9 kilograms of 21 micron wool with a body weight of 87kg. Uniquely we will continue to breed a large number of sale rams at Collinsville station east of Hallett. We believe that it is important to maintain the constitution and survivability of the Collinsville bloodline and is the reason they adapt so well into Australia s pastoral zones. In 2015 Collinsville successfully returned to having an on property sale at the newly constructed selling complex at Cappeedee, Hallett. One hundred and fifty rams were offered with a $20,000 Poll Merino sold to Mutooroo Pastoral and a $19,000 Merino going to Broadoak stud, with a sale average of $2148. Five further stud rams were offered and sold at Adelaide to a top of $28,000 with an average of $14,400. At the SA Stud Merino Expo, Collinsville will display on property at Cappeedee on Monday, March 21 and the Burra oval on Tuesday March 22. A thousand top quality and affordable flock improving rams will be available throughout Collinsville will once again offer stud sires at the Adelaide Ram Sale and will also have an on property auction on Tuesday, September 13 with an increased offering of 200 rams. Details: Collinsville.com.au East Bungaree East Bungaree was founded after the division of the original Bungaree Stud. From 1980 to 1986 the Wylie family, Kangaringa, held the stud. In 1986 the Hawker family repurchased Tony Brooks the stud and kept it until late 1995, when the stud and property were sold to the Litchfield family, Hazeldean Stud, Cooma, NSW. In November 2005, East Bungaree was bought by Tony and Mark Brooks and will continue to be maintained as a distinct strain of South Australian Merino. The objective is to retain the valuable attributes of the East Bungaree Merino including size, fertility Mark Brooks and the ability to thrive in pastoral country but at the same time improve the quality of wool they grow. There are 3500 ewes in the stud, 1000 of which are elite ewes artificially inseminated to the best sires we can identify. These sires are a combination of East Bungaree and outside sires of proven ability to maintain wool quality and carcass value. East Bungaree Merinos are bred for producers looking for productive dual-purpose sheep that deliver in a range of environments. At our annual on-property sale held on the September 22, the stud offered and sold 260 rams to a top of $21,000 with an average of $1700. East Bungaree s 2016 annual ram sale will be held on Tuesday, September 20. Glenville George Millington Tim Dalla Glenville stud is based on the Eyre Peninsula halfway between the towns of Cowell and Cleve. The Smith family are now into Barry Smith their fifth generation of Merino breeding with Poll Merinos being the main focus for the last 30 years. Nourished, long-stapled, bright, deeply crimped wool with good cut on a big, plain body with excellent carcase length has always been the Glenville trademark, making for a profitable, easy care sheep. In 2015, mature stud ewes cut 44 bales of AAAM which averaged 19.8 Daryl Smith micron. Ewe hoggets cut nine bales of AAAM PRM at 17.9µ selling at 1040 cents. Rams on display at Burra will include sires used within the stud this year some of them will be available for sale. Burra last year was busy with interstate semen sales and four stud rams sold. All other rams are sold on property. At our 54th on property sale 140 rams were offered and sold in the main auction Klay Smith for a record $2466 average. Six sires sold to studs and a further 33 rams were sold in a mini auction for an average of $818. The top price Poll sold to Avenel stud, NSW, for $10,500, with the second going to Len Kelsh of Glendale, Port Kenny, for $9000. The top price Merino went to the Morrow family from Darke Peak for $3000. The quality line-up created strong competition with all impressed with the size and good cutting, nourished crimpy wools. There were five new buyers on the day. Private selection sales met strong demand with 130 rams being sold in the $500 to $1500 range and stud rams to $4000. To bolster up our horn sire battery we purchased a Merino ram by Collinsville Olympic from North Ashrose for $12,000 at the 2015 Adelaide Ram Sale, a big, long-bodied, square uncomplicated ram with a long-stapled white wool. Glenville s 55th on property sale will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at 1.30pm. To enable clients to purchase rams within their budget the number of rams offered has been increased to 190 paddock run rams 150 polls and 40 merinos with current tests, which includes pedigree, micron, body and fleece weight rankings. A further 180 rams will be available for private selection. The first sons of W20-543, a ram that created enormous interest at the field days last year, and XP599, purchased for $10,000, will be available this year. The stud offers free flock classing and delivery services. Details: Phone Barry Smith , mobile or Daryl Smith , mobile Merino stud, founded in 1949 on Ashrose bloodlines, had regular purchases of Ashrose stud rams Jim Sullivan and ewes as well as stud rams and semen from Collinsville. Collinsville blood formed the basis of the Poll Merino Stud, founded in The stud sells rams to all parts of SA and interstate. They are keenly sought after for their well-nourished, bright, stylish wool and large, plain bodies. Emphasis is on breeding early-maturing sheep with strong constitutions. Robert Sullivan clients regularly achieve high returns for their quality wool clip and top prices for livestock sold at saleyards. Last year proved to be a very successful year for, highlighted by the first ever win by a South Australian stud in the prestigious National Pairs Competition at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show. The winning ram J&F 3.1 went on to win supreme champion James Sullivan exhibit at the Royal Adelaide Show and the ewe H91 won the Grand Champion Ewe award in Adelaide. The ewe was sold for what is thought to be an Australian record price of $20,000 to Indalo Stud, Argentina. H91 was flushed and used in our first embryo transfer programme prior to leaving. In 2015 the stud offered and sold seven stud Merino and Poll Merino rams at the Adelaide Ram Sale to a top price of $19,000, averaging $10,857. Its annual on property sale in September was another highlight with 100 rams sold to a top of $12,750, averaging $2352. Another 46 mini-auction rams averaged $878. has two lambings a year, enabling quality rams to be available for selection throughout the year. Studmasters Jim, Robert and James Sullivan are committed to breeding top-quality Merinos and Poll Merinos, constantly striving to produce rams with superior genetics. They are available to assist clients with classing and provide general advice with ram selection and flock management. The stud s annual on property production sale is on Monday, September 12, where 150 rams and 300 stud ewes will be offered. Gunallo Gunallo Poll Merino and Merino stud is situated 8 kilometres south of the Mallee Highway between Murrayville, Vic and Pinnaroo SA. Gunallo breeds uncomplicated sheep that are early maturing and fertile with long-stapled, crimpy, white wools on the large frame that our sheep are noted for. They have strong constitutions and are working towards a mules-free sheep. Extensive artificial insemination and some embryo transfer have been instrumental in achieving these goals, as well as advice from our stud classer Bill Walker. In 2015 Gunallo sold rams to a top price of $30,000 with rams going to WA, SA, Vic, and NSW. It was good to see once again client receiving good prices for their Ray Schroeder Brad Schroeder wether lambs, young ewes and old ewes at off-shears sales across the country. We are quite excited about this year s young rams which are showing plenty of potential with more rams having elite, free-growing wools on large frames. Sires used for this year s rams include Kamora Park 37, Gunallo 55 Lustre, Leahcim 438, Gunallo Pride, Leahcim 2918, Rices Creek 146, Wallaloo Park 185, Glenlea Park 769, Roemahkita 1269, Lea 190, plus other leading sires. 3 Hamilton Run Day Two Burra Oval The Hamilton Run Poll Merino stud is a continuation of stud Merino sheep breeding which began in the 1950s by the Greg Andrews Andrews family. Third generation stud Merino breeder Greg Andrews has established, and based the Hamilton Run stud in the undulating country at Jamestown. Sheep are run between the home property and pastoral country in the Southern Flinders ranges. Hamilton Run produces sheep with outstanding constitution and structure, growing stylish medium wool of high follicle density. Hamilton Run genetics influence flocks across a wide range of environs including south east Qld, central and northern NSW, the southern and Wimmera areas in Vic, plus all regions of SA. Returning to the show ring in 2015, Hamilton Run was awarded overall champion fine wool Poll Merino ewe at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, cutting 12 kilograms of wool, and reserve grand champion ewe at Crystal Brook show. Client successes also support the versatility and adaptability of Hamilton Run sheep. The 2015 Adelaide Ram sale resulted in the sale of HR984 for $15,500 to AJ&PA McBride. Also in 2015, Hamilton Run purchased two sires for $50,000 from Willandra and Well Gully Merinos. At Hamilton Run an electronic tagging system is used for the collection of data. Rams are selected visually and also backed by the use of ASBVs, providing additional selection pressure at classing. A Pedigree Matchmaker system is used, providing accuracy of mothering across the large ewe base. Lambing results averaged 150 per cent in In line with demand and to keep prices affordable, the Hamilton Run Poll Merino ewe base has grown, providing a wider selection range for clients. Together with a flock of an additional 1000 meat predominant stud ewes, more than 500 rams are sold annually by auction and private selection. The Hamilton Run ram sale will be held on August 30. A ram selection day at Mundulla is staged in September for southern and Vic producers who are unable to make the Jamestown sale. Enquiries are also welcomed for private selection rams that are available anytime. To assist repeat clients, Hamilton Run offers free ram delivery and complimentary ewe classing services. Hilton Heath Hilton Heath Merino and Poll Merino Studs are run at Sanderston, east of the Mount Lofty Ranges, and at Keith in Roger Fiebig the Upper South East on properties with rainfall between 275 millimetres and 425mm a year. Sheep are bred for a good wool cut on a large, plain-bodied animal with high fertility. High yielding wools are achieved with our white, well-nourished wools on sheep that have a tighter wool tip that keeps the dirt out. Seventy per cent plus yield is achieved on the sandy soils of Sanderston Trevor Fiebig and Keith. Higher yielding wools consistently command higher prices at wool sales. Our sheep are bred to survive when things get tough in the paddock. The Poll matings this year are with Nyowee, Collinsville and Hilton Heath sires. Merino ewes have been mated to Collinsville and Hilton Heath sires. All sale rams have current tests at sale time. Hilton Heath will be displaying at the Burra Expo, South East and Karoonda field days at Murray Bridge Showgrounds and at the Merino Innovation Day at Murray Bridge on Monday, September 5. Our annual sale and selection day is on Wednesday, August 24, off Fromm Road at Sanderston. Private selections are available any time by appointment. Details: Roger or Trevor Kamora Park Dual purpose, fine medium woolled Poll Merinos that offer consistent and repeatable performance is the key breeding Colin Boughen objective of Colin and Julie Boughen and family, Kamora Park stud, Sandalwood. They have been selecting for the dual purpose traits of carcase and wool since 1963, and have targeted bigger, plainer bodied sheep for more than a decade. They also aim for early growth and improved muscling, and high fleece weights of free-growing, long-stapled and well-defined 20 micron wools. Wade Boughen Independent assessment of their progress and rapid improvement is achieved through Merino Select. This has been reinforced by successes in show classes, particularly the Royal Adelaide Show Fibre Meat class where Kamora Park has been the most successful exhibitor throughout the history of this class. They have been placed every year except 2015 (when an entry oversight meant they missed competing) and their successes include two outright wins, plus three wins in the three highest scoring rams award. They have also won in a similar class at Bendigo, Vic. In CRC trials, KP304 (RAS Fibre-meat winner) excelled in the Turretfield SARDI demonstration flock and consequently was placed in the top ten sires nationally in all three indices (FP+, MP+ and DP+) Semen is still available from KP304 and Kamora Park s other top sires. An annual ET program is undertaken with outstanding industry-leading sires, with this year s run producing 87 embryos from nine donor ewes. This enhances the rapid improvement within the flock. A highlight last year was being in the syndicate with WA interests that purchased the outstanding, Willandra Governor General 008 ram for $81,000 at the Willandra sale. On the sales front, at the 2015 annual Kamora Park ram sale 146 rams sold at auction to $5600 and averaged a wonderful $1370, up just under $200 on the previous year. On top of that, individual highlight ram sales included four at the Adelaide ram sale averaging $7250, topped by KP333 to North Cowie for $18,000. Further, the private sale of KP38 at $10,000 to Lachlan Merinos was also finalised in December. In 2016 Kamora Park will again be displaying at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show, Vic, SE Merino Field Day at Keith, Karoonda and Districts Merino Field Day at Murray Bridge all in July, and Adelaide Show from September 7-9. Kamora Park will be offering about 180 rams at their annual on property ram sale on Friday, August 5, at 11am. Colin, Julie, Wade and Katelyn invite your enquiry and inspection. Kamora Netley Park The Boughen family of Kamora Netley Park is committed to breeding high quality dual purpose Poll Merino sheep that have the genetic capacity to improve clients flocks and increase Paul Boughen their profitability. Big, relatively plain-bodied Poll Merino rams carrying wonderful free-growing and high-yielding wools with definition, density and natural nourishment are the reason the many Kamora Netley Park regulars are being joined by new clients each year. After a breakout year in 2012 when Paul and Justin Boughen and families sold rams to $25,000, the Kamora Justin Boughen Netley Park test was to back up that success in the following years which they have done with flying colours. On property sale success has lifted each year with the sale of 182 rams last year, selling to $7200 and averaging $1508. This was an increased clearance, a $1200 lift in the top price and an increase in average by $180 on the previous year s sale result. With special and private sales, more than 350 rams are sold annually. Paul and Justin Boughen have not rested on their laurels though and have made several significant sire investments in recent years, most recently paying $30,000 in partnership for another top Moorundie Park ram at the 2015 Adelaide ram sale. This follows $11,000 and $24,000 purchases from Charinga in 2013, and both rams having blended in well with the Kamora Netley Park breeding ewes. Plain bodies with good wool-cutting skins were the main attraction of these two sires and they will have more progeny will be available this year. Another top line-up of Kamora Netley Park rams will be offered this year. Besides the Charinga sire line, they include many rams from highly successful homebred sire lines, none more impressive than KNP 1, while their Moorundie Park and Nyowee family lines also have plenty of top rams on offer. Kamora Netley Park will be displaying rams at Burra, Bendigo, Vic, Murray Bridge, Hamilton, Vic, and Adelaide in Their annual ram sale will be on Friday, August 5, at 1pm with about 200 Poll Merino rams on offer. Mernowie Ian Rowett founded the stud in 1975, and son David has become joint studmaster. Mernowie is situated at Marrabel which is Ian Rowett 50 kilometres south of Burra and 100km north of Adelaide. The stud is renowned for its ability to produce quality white wool on a large-framed plain-bodied animal. There is emphasis on conformation in order to withstand the usual wet winters under moderate to high stocking rates. The stud has a priority to develop genetic resistance to worms. It also has a structured management David Rowett program in place to increase fertility genetically. A number of clients consistently wean up to 130 per cent lambs and regularly achieve outstanding results for sheep and wool sales. There is an emphasis on post weaning weight gain, eye muscle depth, positive C fat and increased clean fleece weight with sire selection. Last year s sale catalogue had an average of 8.1 for growth. A full range of ASBVs will be available for the annual on property auction on Friday, September 16. Private inspections are always welcome. The purchase of a property Paul Meyer at Tintinara in the Upper South East has enhanced Mulloorie s breeding programs. The stud continues to use visual assessment along with additional measurement on ewes and rams to achieve low coefficient of variation and standard deviation with good comfort factors. Body structures, bodyweight and eye muscle measurements enhance the profitability of Mulloorie-blood sheep Peter Meyer for clients requiring dual purpose animals for today s market. The success of the stud in this area is reflected in the performance at the Bendigo Sheep Show, winning the champion all purpose 2-tooth ram judged on wool and meat results in In 2007 the stud won the fibre meat class at the Royal Adelaide Show, which was also judged on wool and meat tests for rams showing not more than 2 teeth. Mulloorie will display at Burra on Tuesday, March 22 and at Keith on Wednesday, July 27. Mulloorie will conduct its fifth on property auction at Tintinara offering 35 rams on Thursday, July 28 at 2.30pm. The annual on property auction at Brinkworth will be held on Monday, September 19 at 1.00pm where we will offer 70 rams. The stud will also offer six rams at the Adelaide Ram Sale on Friday, September 9. Mulloorie-blood sheep perform in all types of environments. Inspections welcome. North Cowie North Cowie Merino and Poll Merino studs were founded in 1978 as a result of Orrie Cowie stud being split between the Garry Murdoch Murdoch family. The late Vic Murdoch retained Orrie Cowie and Garry Murdoch formed North Cowie. In 1987 North Cowie began selling rams by holding an on property auction in July each year. This year the stud has mated 800 Poll Merino ewes to rams from Mulloorie, Ridgway and North Cowie rams retained in the stud. We are also really excited to have secured Poll sire Kamora Park Joseph Murdoch 333 a son of super sire KP304, for $18,000 at the 2015 Adelaide Ram Sale. North Cowie has also mated 600 Merino ewes to sires from Minta, and rams retained in North Cowie, including NC 4.01 who was successful on the show circuit in Semen is available for sale from these impressive young sires. North Cowie s aim is to breed large-framed, plain-bodied sheep carrying heavy-cutting, well-nourished, bright, white, stylish wool in the 19 to 21 micron range. Our aim is to return clients more dollars a hectare from their sheep enterprise. North Cowie sheep have proven themselves to perform very well in all environments, from the high rainfall areas, right through to the pastoral areas of SA and NSW. North Cowie prides itself on breeding easy care merinos with heavy-cutting, quality wools at very affordable prices. Last year North Cowie sold 53 of 56 Poll Merino and Merino rams at auction to a record top of $4600 and an average of $1480. A further 101 rams sold in the mini auction and by private selection. This year we will be displaying rams at the Stud Merino Expo at Burra in March, Broken Hill Ag Fair in May and the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo, Vic, in July. Spring-drop and flock rams will be available by appointment from August. We welcome clients and visitors to our on property sale on July 27. Inspections at our sale start at 10am with the auction beginning at 1pm. Old Ashrose Old Ashrose was first registered in 1979, following the division of the Ashby familys Ashrose stud (founded in 1910). Old Ashrose Proprietors was formed in 2002 with the partnership of Robert Ashby Rob and Sue Ashby and Nick and Kate Wadlow. In 2015 Nick and Kate became the sole proprietors of the Old Ashrose Merino and Poll Merino stud and continue the stud s proud commitment to the Australian sheep and wool industry. Old Ashrose breeds large frame, early maturing plain-bodied sheep with sound confirmation and constitution. Wools are well-nourished, soft handling and Nick Wadlow white, with strong selection placed on wool quality, staple length, strength and yield. The five-year average fibre diameter is 21.0 micron. Objective measurement tools are used to focus on increasing fleece and weaning weights. Our breeding objectives are aligned with market and environmental requirements that challenge our clients. These profit-driven objectives are continually reviewed to ensure Old Ashrose sheep remain relevant to present and future requirements. In 2015, a total of 2800 Merino and Poll Merino stud ewes were mated. At the 2015 on property sale 100 rams in the main auction were offered and sold to $4800 for an average of $1826. A further 55 mini auction rams averaged $743. A pleasing feature of the sale was the number of interstate and local ram breeders who purchased quality stud rams at reasonable prices. Ram marketing in September will continue to be focused on the on property auction and the Adelaide Ram Sale with private selections by appointment throughout the year. ASBVs are available on all sale rams. Visit Old Ashrose at au for further information. You can also follow us on facebook. The annual on property ram sale is on Thursday, September 15 at 1pm. Old Kelvale By running 4500 commercial ewes in the lower rainfall pastoral country east of Burra, we are well aware of the importance of having sheep that are strong, easy to care for and able to achieve Graham Kellock the maximum return possible in wool cut, lambing percentages and early growth lambs. Our aim at Old Kelvale is to produce sheep that maximise profitability in the wool and carcase markets for your business, and ours. During the past five years the wether lambs have averaged more than $120. Bred on the pastoral country east of Burra, these sheep are bred to survive, thrive and David Hill reproduce under erratic seasonal conditions. From a young age, lambs learn to travel long distances to find feed and water. The average pastoral lambing percentage is about 100 per cent, although commonly exceeds 110ASBVs. While seasonal conditions in the pastoral country always have an effect on the wool clip, all sheep consistently cut between 7 kilograms and 8kg. Breeding with sound and consistent genetics has resulted in a true dual-purpose sheep. Micron testing, eye muscle testing and visual classing provides us with valuable guidelines for breeding and sire selection, resulting in sheep that are successful in ram sales, wool sales and commercial sheep markets. A number of young Old Kelvale rams will be on display at the Expo on the Burra Oval. Rams are also available by private selection. Private selection allows you individual time to select the right genetics to suit your needs. Details: Graham Kellock or , David Hill or Orrie Cowie Every Orrie Cowie ram sale is special, but last year s was exceptionally important, being its 50th annual sale. Not many studs achieve 50 years, but to do it so well for so long is a real Dennis Dalla credit to the Orrie Cowie principals. This year s sale promises to be even better in the quality on offer. Orrie Cowie Poll Merinos and Merinos are renowned for being large-framed, heavy-cutting sheep carrying waxy, well-nourished, bright, white, stylish and soft handling wools. There are profit making genetics for clients in sheep and wool markets in all environs, but especially Heather Dalla advantageous in the challenging higher rainfall or dusty areas. For stud principals Dennis and Heather Dalla, there is no better recommendation than the success of their genetics in clients flocks in wide ranging climatic conditions. In last year s sale a total clearance of 128 rams sold to a top of $16,000 and averaged of John Dalla $1893, with long-term repeat buyers from four states and New Zealand in attendance. Four top rams went to NZ for the first time at an $8400 average. Orrie Cowie again sold more than 500 rams from its Poll Merino, Merino and meat sheep studs in The first 11 sons of Orrie Cowie Titan a winner at Sydney, Adelaide and Crystal Brook, the latter qualifying him to represent SA 26 Merino Annual 2016

5 in the Rabobank National Ram of the Year competition at Dubbo, NSW, where he sold for the sale s top price of $25,000 were offered last year and averaged $4009. More exciting Titan sons will be on offer this year and semen is still available for a consistently proven great result. The Dallas have placed increased emphasis on plainer bodies, higher growth and improved carcase traits in the last two decades, but not at the expense of wool cut and nourishment. Selection for lower microns, staple length and natural nourishment has the Orrie Cowie entire ewe flock producing an average of 9 kilograms of 20 micron wool. This average wool cut and quality is phenomenal and clearly highly profitable. For their superb commercial flock, long-term clients the Reade family, Curramulka, paid last year s top sale price of $16,000 for OC 30942, a tall and long 132kg son of OC Earle 21. This ram was described by the vendors as one of the best woolled and nourished rams ever offered by the stud, having figures of 18.3 micron, 2.3 SD, 12.6 CV and 99.9 CF, plus extreme staple length. The amount they are prepared to invest in genetics is reflected in the quality and returns from their Poll Merino flock. They sold 760 wethers on hooks in winter last year that dressed at 42kg, receiving $161 for their meat value, plus 851 cents/kg for their wool, grossing more than $200/head. Breeding for profit has been a motto at Orrie Cowie since its inception back in Orrie Cowie has always had a clear and strong focus on this, ensuring they are constantly evolving to produce more productive and efficient sheep. They bring in select infusions when needed which can produce the nourished wools, fast growth and carcase traits for which they are widely recognised. Visual assessment and breeding experience is supported by actual measurement for fibre diameter, standard deviation, co-efficient of variation, comfort factor, body wrinkle score, wool quality index, bodyweight, fat and eye muscle depth and scrotal circumference. ASBVs through Merino Select are part of the Orrie Cowie selection toolbox, thus eliminating guesswork and speeding up flock improvement. Orrie Cowie s 2016 annual sale will be on Wednesday, August 10 on property at Warooka. About 120 rams, with a dominance of Poll Merinos, will be offered in the main auction, while a further 50 will be offered in the mini-auction. The Dalla family invites you to inspect their sheep at the field days, or on property by arrangement. Further details on semen and sale sheep are available on their website Pepper Well Pepper Well Poll Merino stud has property at Keyneton, Sedan and Cambrai. The stud was founded in At Pepper Well Hans Graetz Poll we select for early-maturing, big, long-framed sheep, heavily muscled in the right places loin and hind leg, which is attached to a huge pelvic area. These animals are always covered with uncomplicated skin, draped in very long, white, bold staples of silky soft, deeply crimped, aligned wool. Mature ewes average 19.5 microns. We use about 90 per cent maiden ewes in the stud mob to fast-track genetic gain. Also, I dislike pampered stock and our stock are run tough, stud included, with no shedding and little strategic supplementary feeding. Simplistically, it all boils down to how much profit your sheep make for you from each mouthful of grass they eat. Fertility rates have been as high as 131 ASBVs lambs marked to ewes mated. Robust Sheep that breed on with high fertility, good early growth, with excellent wool and the ability to put on weight fast when the feed is on, is what Pepper Well Poll is all about. Pepper Well is approved OJD vaccinated since 2006, is brucellosis free and OJD negative PFC 350. This, combined with minimal or no shedding, no foot trimming and with ASBVs, make the right ram selection a breeze. The 2010 stud drop of 120 ram lambs weaned at 100 days had an average bodyweight of 40 kilograms. The tops weighed 53kg, even, after trucking and a 24 hour feed and water curfew. Think about those numbers for a second that is some serious early vigour. Our 2016 sale will be held at our Keyneton property on Tuesday, August 30 at 1pm. Inspections can be arranged by appointment no problem. See us on day two of the SA Stud Merino Expo at Burra on March 22 and the Karoonda Merino Field Day on July 29 at Murray Bridge showgrounds. Also, try friending us on facebook to get more information. Pindari Pindari Merino Stud was formed in 1966, while the Poll Merino stud was registered in 1980, with many infusions of Moorundie Park in the early years. In recent years, Robin, Mary-Anne and Greg Schwartz have sought the judicious use of plain-bodied, free-growing, bold crimping sires, while maintaining conformation to produce a more modern Poll Merino. Rams with ASBVs have also been sought in recent years, targeting improvement in clean fleece weight, maintaining micron, and looking for above average weaning weight and genetic fat. This will continue the goal of easier care, faster growing, and genetically resilient Merinos. We are consistently achieving lambing percentages of per Day Two Burra Oval Robin Schwartz Greg Schwartz cent in stud sheep, and pc in our own commercial flock. With the use of preg scanning and identifying twins, we plan to keep pushing these goals 2016 higher. At least 40pc or more of the ewe flock is scanning up with multiples, with the challenge being to get more of these surviving to weaning with a July/August lambing. Mature ewes consistently produce 7-8 kilograms of wool a year at micron, at high winter stocking rates and with very minimal worm control (drenching). In 2015 our main clip was shorn in April, and had a lot of dust pressure with a dry spring in Our wools still averaged 65pc yield, and 40n/kt, resulting in an average of $9.48 greasy for a June sale. This is the icing on the cake that many clients are receiving too, to top up their great sheep and lamb prices. Rams are offered for sale for the first time at months old in September, when our on property ram auction is held, and privately at any time thereafter. Rams go to a mix of environments at this age and have performed well in the Upper North, Murray Mallee, and many mixed farming areas locally. We would like to thank all bidders and purchasers at our 2015 auction, where these purely paddock-run rams sold to $2900, and averaged just under $1200 overall, which represented great value for both the seller and buyer. Sevenmonth-old ram lambs will be displayed at the 2016 SA Stud Merino Expo, as well as a selection of 18-month-old rams, and some stud ewes running with sires at that time. We will have displays on property at Waterloo, and at Burra, and look forward to catching up with all interested breeders then, and in the year ahead, including the Mid North Inspection Day in late August. Pindari s on property poll merino ram auction will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at Waterloo. Radnor The Radnor Merino and Poll Merino sheep stud was founded in 1982 by keen and passionate stock breeders Eric and Stephen Koehler. Known for their large frames, white, crimpy wools and easy care, Radnor is breeding a true dual-purpose animal which is evident through its many successes in various meat and fibre classes. Utilising genetics from across Australia including Charinga, Collinsville, Moorundie Park, Orrie Cowie and Wallaloo Park, Radnor has sourced ideal sires and bloodlines. The aim of the stud is to produce a true dual purpose animal that can survive and thrive, display good size, bone structure and constitution, and produce a high quality long-stapled, white, crimpy wool which is high yielding. This wool is highly sought after by processors. Recent achievements in 2015 were in the Adelaide Show with sire Prince Harrison awarded grand reserve champion March-shorn Poll Merino ram, and also winning champion August-shorn fine wool Merino ewe. Progeny from Collinsville, Radnor Harrison, Dangerfield, Rutten and Charinga families will feature heavily in the on property sale this year. Radnor are displaying this year at Burra, Broken Hill, Hay, Bendigo, Vic, Murray Bridge, Hamilton, and Adelaide, and even overseas Kangaroo Island and will hold its annual ram sale at the Langhorne Creek property on Friday, August 12 at 1.00pm. Radnor is OJD MN3 accredited. Details: Stephen Koehler , Brett Koehler or bkradnor74@gmail.com Rices Creek Established in 1925, Rices Creek is run by the Vandeleur family from properties at Saddleworth in the Mid North, and Tintinara in the Upper South East. The stud aims to consistently breed big, early maturing, plain-bodied sheep with productive skins and white wools. Rams are sought from all Merino breeding areas, from semi-arid pastoral to high rainfall intensive grazing country. Their well-nourished wools help handle any climatic extremes. The stud s annual artificial insemination program uses top Rices Creek rams, and the best available outside genetics to fine tune its breeding program for continual improvement. In 2015, Rices Creek held ram sales at its Tintinara and Mid North properties. The seventh annual Rices Creek on property sale at Tintinara on August 6 achieved a top of $4000, and an average of $1392. On September 1 the Vandeleur family held its second annual on property sale at Saddleworth. The sale averaged $1644, with a top of $4100. In total 130 high quality rams were sold by auction, validating the demand for the stud s genetics within their existing and new client base. In 2016 Rices Creek will display rams at the SA Stud Merion Expo at Burra, Hay Sheep Show, NSW, South East field day at Keith, and the Bendigo Sheep Show, Vic. The stud s selling season will begin with the on property sale at Tintinara on Thursday, August 4, followed by the Saddleworth sale on Tuesday, September 6. Following this, rams will be offered at the Classings Stephen Koehler Brett Koehler Jim Vandeleur James Vandeleur Kim Vandeleur Mark Vandeleur Classic and Adelaide Ram Sale. Private selections will follow by appointment. The Vandeleur family is excited with this year s drop of ram lambs which are Merino Annual

6 2016 Day Two Burra Oval showing great growth for age with bright, white wools. Again, sons of RC902 and R214 are featured, along with the influence of Collinsville Regal, Moorundie Park Kelvenator and Mianellup Expo 540. Always striving to remain up-to-date with industry demands and modern technologies, Rices Creek will be providing ASBVs for their 2016 sale rams. This information can be accessed from the stud s website closer to the sale dates. All stud information can be found on the Rices Creek website at or find us on facebook. Roemahkita Roemahkita Poll Merino stud is a Collinsville-based daughter stud with infusions since the late 1990s from Wallaloo Park, Vic, Leahcim and Kamora Park and more recently Nerstane, NSW, Joe Dahlitz Kamora Netley Park, Gunallo and Collinsville. We are located on the magnificent lower Eyre Peninsula, 10 kilometres south of Cummins, in a reliable mixed farming district. We receive about millimetres of rain annually. We are 660km west of Adelaide by road and 60km north of Port Lincoln. The stud s objective is to produce large-framed, highly fertile, early maturing sheep that are easy-care. We have a strong emphasis on wool cut, bodyweight and growth rates and constitution, with high quality crimpy wools of a medium micron and high comfort factor. December 4 bodyweights on 320 rams (including 70 culls) averaged 59.3 kilograms, at 7-8 months old. At the SA Stud Merino Expo, in Burra, in March 2011, 2012 and 2014 we have won the all purpose pair of ram lambs for meat and fibre. At the Eyre Peninsula Merino Expo at Wudinna, we won the Elders 2015 ram hogget of the year with a Collinsville Premier son. We aim to produce the complete package of meat and fibre the real money making Merinos. In recent years we have successfully sold rams and or semen to Stud Breeders and commercial clients in Vic, SA, NSW and WA. We are delighted with the positive feedback we continue to receive from clients about the great breeding results they have experienced with our genetics. The sires of this year s sale rams are sired by Roemahkita Big Joe , , , , Ridgway 85, Gunallo (sold for $18,000) and Collinsville (sold for $65,000). All of these sires ooze size, meat, muscle and fibre. We place a strong emphasis on the visual classing of all animals individually, with the use of raw data to assist our assessment, and we also use Merino Select ASBVs in our selections. We are absolutely thrilled with this year s sale team. They have magnificent size, great wool density and quality. They are indeed a special group, and we invite your inspection. Our on property inspection day is Thursday, July 21, from 10.30am-4pm, with our 26th annual on property ram sale to be held on Tuesday, July 26, with inspection from 10.30am and the sale starting at 2pm. A light luncheon is provided. Sherlock Wes and Andy Titley run Sherlock Poll Merinos on 350 millimetre limestone country without irrigation. Sheep are bred to survive and thrive, passing rigorous classing for Wes Titley robustness, structure and nourished quality wools, into truly modern and profitable Merinos. The stud does not chase fads. Stud ewes are selected for complete wool cover with true density and length, and wool quality consistent throughout the fleece including breech and scrag. Our 17-year average Andy Titley micron is under 20µ from ewes up to 10 years old, proving our sheep do not blow out. Wool growing is the most profitable part of our enterprise, and our aim has always been to have heavy-cutting wools on uncomplicated bodies. Amazing recognition of mature Sherlock sheep genetic advances is topped by Incubator. She tested 20µ, 100 per cent CF, and weighed 130 kilograms. She attracted many interesting stud breeder responses is she the biggest poll ewe in Australia? She is the biggest ewe I have ever seen! I thought she was a ram! She must be barren! She must have something else in her breeding! After persistent negotiation, this ewe, with faultless structure, massive constitution (and who was rebounding from rearing twins) sold to Argentina for $6000, which we believe to be a record price for a four-year-old Poll Merino ewe by Private Treaty. Our biggest thrill in 2015 was the purchase of large lines of Sherlock-blood ewes by local farmers recognising our bloodline s productivity. Some of our top stud ewes cut 6kg of 19.9µ 67.4y, at 7 months including daughters of our once in a decade sire Majestic maintaining interest in his semen. Size, structure and feet seem to be the virtues people keep coming back to with him. We joined 90 ewes with AI to him this year. To further stamp our type AI, increased ET topped up with two top new rams from Collinsville and some beautiful new generation home-bred sires were introduced in In order to increase clients profitability the main criteria are size and woolcut. An increased carcaseweight on clients wether lambs and maintaining the high wool cuts Sherlock-blood ewes have always been noted for is not compromised. Our 2015 sale offered and sold an increased number with top end rams seeing animated bidding to $3800 and very good value presented itself in some of our younger quality rams. We hope to offer an increased number of rams at our 33rd annual auction again haltered on grating for your closer inspection. New genetics on offer from our 2014 AI program include P1 [lewisdale] MP306, E430, B021 and our new sire Sherlock217 [The Boss]. His progeny are standouts for early growth and structure. The Sherlock auction will be held on Tuesday, August 9. Inspection is from 11am, with the sale at 1pm. Details: Wes Titley See us on facebook. Springvale North Springvale North Poll Merino stud was founded after the division of the Springvale stud in 1997 and has a breeding history dating back to It is run by Peter Stockman Snr and sons Alex and Peter and families, based at Burra. The stud aims to breed large frame, early maturing, plain-bodied sheep with freegrowing, long-stapled, bright, white wools with plenty of character that can survive and thrive in all environments. We aim to breed dual purpose, highly productive sheep the modern Merino that can improve the profitability of clients flocks. Springvale North will have a complete display on property on Monday, March 21, and will exhibit at Burra oval on Tuesday, March 22, as part of the SA Stud Merino Expo. We are able to offer our clients numerous opportunities to select rams as we run two lines of stud ewes with one lambing in April/May and another in September/October. This gives us two complete lines of 1.5-year-old rams for sale each year, one line at field days in March by private selection and another line for our on property auction in September. At last year s 2015 on property auction a full clearance of 85 rams were sold at an average of $1260, the stud s best average for 14 years. Springvale North continues to focus on serving its growing client base and its annual on property auction will again be held at The Grove on Friday, September 16. White River Peter Stockman Snr Peter Stockman Jnr Alex Stockman The clear advantage the White River Merino and Poll Merino studs enjoy is the large numbers of superb quality and genuine dual purpose rams they are able to offer the industry on Wes Daniell an annual basis. Close on 200 rams are offered at the Daniell family s annual sale at their Poochera property on the third Tuesday in August, catering for the many clients who want a large selection of rams of that standard to select from. Buying support has been exceptional, and it is pleasing clients with a range of different budget levels are able to purchase their requirements John Daniell with this level of selection choice. Again a vast majority of these big, productive and constitutionally strong White River rams will be fully paddock reared, with only the leading few having any extra preparation to fully display their genetic capabilities. Last year marked the start of a new chapter in the evolution and development of the White River studs with more Poll Merinos than Merinos being offered. A Poll Merino topped the sale at $12,000. While this was in response to industry signals and has been something the Daniell family have been working towards for many years, it does not downplay the importance of maintaining the highest quality standards and adequate selection numbers in the production of White River Merino rams. Independent measurement through Merino Select is also undertaken with ASBVs being available on all sale rams. These reinforce White River s reputation for producing big, productive, dual purpose Merino sheep. The Daniell family has invested strongly and astutely in new genetic infusions, especially in their Poll Merino program as it has been expanded. Their most significant investment was at the 2013 Royal Adelaide Show when they paid the $34,000 top price for Collinsville Poll Premier 102. His first progeny were on offer last year and exceeded expectations. His 60 sons were like peas in a pod with big, safe frames and crimpy, nourished wools and sold to the sale s top to Richard Stein, Tubbo Station, Darlington Point, NSW, averaging a super impressive $3120. Further investment in two top Old Ashrose Poll Merino sires was made at the 2015 Adelaide Ram Sale for $27,000 and $18,000. These are the ideal type and quality to follow the Premier line and continue to produce the renowned White River product. A sample of White River 2016 offering will be on display at Burra, EP Merino Field Days, Hay, NSW, Bendigo, Vic, and World Merino Insight display at Murray Bridge. The entire sale offering can be inspected on property by appointment prior to their ram sale, or at the stud s on property inspection day on Friday, August 12 from 1pm to 5pm. White River s annual sale will be held at Poochera on Tuesday, August 16, with about 200 Merino and Poll Merino rams on offer. Visit us at 28 Merino Annual 2016
