1 2015 Virginia Veterinary Conference The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center February 26-28, 2015 Roanoke, Virginia HOSTED BY Virginia Veterinary Medical Association IN ASSOCIATION WITH Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technicians
2 Virginia Veterinary Conference Hello Colleagues: As in recent years, the 2015 Virginia Veterinary Conference will be held at The Hotel Roanoke. Our program was created to be consistent with the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association s mission statement, The VVMA represents, promotes and protects the interests of our diverse veterinary community and serves as a resource on matters of animal health, animal welfare and the human animal bond. Prior to the beginning of the conference, there will be a VVMA Board of Directors meeting held Thursday afternoon at the Hotel Roanoke. Members are encouraged to attend board meetings as this is an excellent opportunity to begin to understand the many ways that the directors, officers and active members work to benefit the entire veterinary profession in our Commonwealth. If you are interested in attending, then please contact either Robin or Talya at the VVMA office for further information. The conference takes off on Thursday evening with a Welcome Reception and a panel discussion on current relationships between veterinarians, shelters and animal control in Virginia. This panel will have participants from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Animal Welfare League of Arlington, Richmond SPCA, Danville Area Humane Society, Chesterfield County Animal Services and Loudoun County Animal Services. Friday morning begins with keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Dicks, futurist. I have heard Dr. Dicks speak to groups several times during my career. He is an engaging and fascinating visionary, an economist with national and international credentials, and also a biochemist and rancher. Be sure to attend to learn his realistic portraits of the future of our profession. After the keynote speaker there will be a short business meeting and election of VVMA officers for Topics and speakers for the two concurrent small animal tracks were chosen based on your feedback from the 2014 VVC. We have renowned speakers to present on theriogenology, geriatrics, genetics and breeding management, dentistry, shelter medicine, critical care medicine, forensic medicine, urology, oncology and cardiology. There are also eminent speakers and current topics in the equine, food animal and complementary medicine tracks. Over 60 industry and allied industry exhibitors will be represented in the exhibit hall. There will also be an Exhibitor Appreciation Reception and silent auction on Friday evening. I hope everyone will make an effort to attend the Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. This is a gala event which honors and celebrates the outstanding achievements of veterinarians and friends of veterinary medicine in Virginia. An AVMA representative will update those present on national issues of importance to our profession, and then swear in the newly elected VVMA officers for A dessert reception follows this event. I am excited about this upcoming program and look forward to seeing you there. Sincerely, Terry L. Taylor, DVM Terry L. Taylor, DVM VVMA President-Elect and Conference Chair Register online at
