4 Introduction The 10 th Labrador Retriever National Championship Show will be hosted by The Labrador Retriever Club of NSW Inc. This will be the third National held in Sydney and we hope to deliver a fantastic weekend full of great sportsmanship, showcasing the wonderful Labrador Retrievers we have in Australia. This information booklet will assist exhibitors with their planning to attend this event. It will be updated periodically as we get closer to the National in 2018, please regularly check for updates. Please note that at the completion of the dog judging on Saturday 12 th May, we will continue with the Baby Puppy Bitch, Minor Puppy Bitch and Puppy Bitch classes. The reason behind judging these bitch classes on Saturday is that typically the second day of the National, where the bitches are judged, runs quite late due to the higher number of bitch entries compared to dogs. We hope with these changes, exhibitors will have more time to tend to their dogs and not be too rushed to get to the National Presentation Dinner on Sunday evening. 6 Judges Profile Mr Arwyn Ellis (UK) Dolwen Labrador Retrievers My wife and I purchased our first Labrador in August 1972, the day after returning from our honeymoon. He was a lovely dog from Sandylands lines, but was never shown. Having lost him at an early age of seven we purchased a Labrador from the Bryndafydd kennel. He was the only survivor of a litter of seven and was named Bryndafydd Mighty Mouse. As he was a very head strong dog, he was taken to a local training class, who persuaded us to start showing him and he did relatively well in local shows. Like most we caught the bug and purchased a lovely black dog, Bryndafydd Tarquin a brother of Bryndafydd Zeus. Unfortunately he had poor hips but proved to be a lovely companion with an exceptional temperament. Having attended quite a few championship shows we bought our first bitch from the Trenow Kennel of Tony and Maureen Floyd, namely Trenow Mistress. She was a lovely yellow bitch with classic lines and was eventually mated to Bryndafydd Zeus and produced Dolwen Fair Katrina who is behind our entire Kennel. She was the mother of Dolwen Edward Seymour JW, , 2 CC s, 4 RCC s who tragically died at a young age. His grandsons are SH CH Dolwen Francis Henry JW, and SH CH Dolwen Thomas Charles. All our present dogs are descended from this line. Trenow Primrose of Dolwen and her son Dolwen Johnny Be Good We have been fortunate enough to make up two UK show champions and have won a total of twelve CCs. We are currently campaigning dogs of three colours and they are very successful at this moment in time. I have had the privilege of judging in many European countries, also in America, Australia (1999), India and Scandinavia. I have awarded challenge certificates in the United Kingdom on a total of fifteen occasions including Midland Counties, Yellow Labrador Club and the highlight was judging 6 P a g e

7 Crufts in My wife Sian and daughter Einir Matulla also award cc s in the UK and have been fortunate enough to judge abroad on several occasions. Dolwen Coleman and chocolate Dolwen Button Moon (10 months) I am a retired Head Teacher and have two children both of who are teaching. Sian and I have been married for forty five years and live in North Wales in the country side. It is a lovely area but hours from the shows!! I feel really honoured to be invited to judge your National next year and am looking forward immensely to this prestigious appointment. 8 Mrs Luci Ellem (NSW) - Obedience Judge UD, Open, Novice, CCD, Winner of Winners In 1967 I obtained my first Labrador Zealand Petree Roamer AOC. I was struck with the love of the Labrador and added another two to my household, Moucher and Sovereign. In all, l attained 5 Australian Obedience Champions, with my first three Labradors, then a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd. I became a Chief Instructor of an Obedience Club and was totally involved in training dogs and people to be the best, hence becoming a Professional Dog Trainer which I have been for 53 years. During my career I became an Obedience Judge, Agility Judge which I retired from, a Gundog Working Test Judge and a Tracking Judge. I was the first Australian to judge the first Obedience Trial in Singapore which was a great honour. I have been a Royal Agricultural Society Councillor for over 23 years and enjoyed working on the committee to present the Sydney Royal at its best. Over the years I attained with my husband John, twenty seven breed Champions including Terriers, Rottweilers, Labradors and a Lagotto. I am a proud Patron of the Labrador Club, Schnauzer Club, Weimaraner Club NSW, Goulburn Kennel and Obedience Club and Life Member of six Obedience Clubs. 9 Mr George Bartolo OAM (NSW) Obedience Judge UDX George Bartolo joined the Illawarra Dog Training Club in 1972 with his first Labrador bitch called Princess. It wasn t long before he was hooked on trailing and Princess attained her CD title in four outings. Princess successfully acquired her UD title and continued prosperously, winning both in Open and UD. Since joining the Club he was always heavily involved and held positions on the committee, President, Chief Instructor and Trial Manager for a number of years. George also trained another three Labradors: Scar, Pal and Jack. They all attained the UD title and also trailed in the All Age stakes in Non Slip Retrieving Trials. Scar and Pal gained their Agility title as well. Over the years George has had tremendous success in obedience trailing with all of his Labradors, recording wins and places in just about all of the trials he entered. His trailing career has been highlight by twice winning the gold medal in Open with Pal, Silver and Bronze in UD with Scar and Silver in UD with Jack in the NSW State Obedience Titles. Also, winning the Open stake in the Queensland State Obedience Title in 1987 and placing second in Open with Pal and second in Novice with Major in the National titles held in Queensland that same year. Presently, George is trailing in UD with his Labrador bitch Zak in UD George has judged all sections of obedience including Rally-O and judged at the NSW Obedience State Titles numerous times. He also judged in Brisbane a number of times and judged all classed in the obedience section of the Labrador Retriever National Titles in George commenced his Obedience Judging career in 1992 as a novice judge. In 1994 he became an Open judge and finally in 2001 he became a full panel judge. Since November 2001, George is a member of the Judges Obedience and Tracking Committee of the Royal NSW Canine Council. 9 P age

10 OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS: 2018 Labrador National, Sydney Ingrid Matschke (Adelaide) and Shirley Rolfe (NZ) are your official photographers for the 2018 Labrador National. We are both professional photographers with years of dog showing and photography experience across several countries including Australia, NZ and Sweden. Ingrid was also the official photographer at the last Labrador National held in Adelaide and has had Gundogs since We will be taking photos during judging and aim for maximum coverage but ring shots are not guaranteed for a variety of reasons. Please let us know if you have any special requests and we will do our best. Ingrid will also be photographing all place getters on their pegs during critiquing so please be ready if you are placed. Candids/individual sessions are also available during breaks or after judging, by request (no extra charge). If you re after candids, please let us know in advance. Ingrid will be taking all the winner photos at the podium. The club requires that ALL MAJOR WINNERS are photographed for their records, advertising purposes and media distribution. We are also sponsoring BIS with an A3 print plus RUBIS and highest obedience scorer with an A4 print each. As the podium area is setup exclusively for the use of the official photographers, we ask that you respect our space and not shoot over our shoulder for lighting ratio & professional reasons. Photos will be edited and uploaded after we return home and can take up to a week or so due to travel time/volume. Photos can be purchased and downloaded straight from our official websites (in $AU) using credit card or Paypal. We also accept EFT payments. orders are not necessary unless you have special requests. Make sure you watch our Facebook pages for links once we re done.
