The answer is really pretty simple. 1) We have been blessed, ) We have used science and technology. Animal Scientists say that the rate of genetic improvement is based primarily on four things. 1) Accuracy of Selection, ) Generation Interval, 3) Selection Intensity & ) Genetic Variation within the breed. We use high accuracy sires to enhance the accuracy of selection. In addition, we measure our calves in large, high quality, contemporaries to most accurately measure their genetic merit for a multitude of traits. We increase the generation interval by using embryo transfer on our best young females that have proven their ability to breed, calve unassisted, raise high quality calves and rebreed as well as having the EPDs & type and kind wanted by the industry. Selection Intensity is defined as the superiority of the individuals selected for breeding, relative to the population from which they were selected. We select the most elite sires and dams possible from the entire breed. In other words, we find the best proven cattle in the breed & then mass multiply them. Using this disciplined approach is the best method we have found to make the most rapid genetic progress possible. The hardest part of this strategy for us is to let go of fantastic females like this one just as they enter the prime of their life. If you want to rapidly improve your herd and own some of the most sought after genetics in the industry, then I recommend that you invest in the best genetics you can find and then multiply them.
