2 Welcome to the second Rhodes Fall Calving Female Fiesta and thank you for your interest in our program. We hope you find some females that fit your needs. We have again decided to offer all of our 1A registered heifers for sale. We will keep our ET heifers and a few Category II (blackred carriers) females as replacements. We made the decision to sell all of our A heifer calves and a number of registered and commercial cows and heifers. We are also selling every commercial cow that is not pregnant with an ET calf. This will give us a slight herd reduction and make room for our 2012 and 2013 replacements. As we have over 100 confirmed ET pregnancies from embryos we put in last fall we are also making room in our program for these heifer calves. All of our 1A cows born in 2008 or earlier will be in the sale. We would like you pay close attention to these females. It is a good thing I committed in the sale advertising to selling these cows because as I was working on the catalog I kept asking myself why am I selling these cows. We have a very young herd so there are not that many but they are a quality group of cows. In order to get our numbers we have also placed many 2009, 2010, and 2011 registered females in the sale. There are some very good genetics represented in these females. As stated above we also are going to transition out our commercial cow herd. The commercial cows were are retaining are carrying an ET calf. Otherwise they are in the sale. In an effort to raise some very good recipient cows I decided a couple years ago to breed some of our commercial cows to the Genex Revolution Hereford bull. These fall bred red and black baldy heifers are in the sale. I think they will be a highlight. They are all half sisters and should make great cows. I am not a Hereford expert but the people I talked to about the Revolution bull spoke very highly of him as a cow-maker. There are also a few open commercial heifers in the sale that are bred the same way. In addition there is one lot of Durham Red open heifer calves (Red angus X Shorthorn). These heifers were also intended to become recipient cows with good milking ability. We have a modest spring herd and are also making a little room in it by offering 10 spring pairs and 12 spring red angus commercial bred heifers. I have been informed by management that the main purpose of our spring herd is to always have some calves around for the granddaughters to go look at :) A big thank you to all of the people that help manage our herd and have worked diligently to put this sale together. 4 Terms: Terms of the sale are cash, check, or other terms agreed to in writing between seller, buyer, and sale staff payable immediately upon conclusion of the sale before animals will be moved. Sale Staff reserves the right to require a certified check as settlement before releasing any cattle. Purchaser s Risk: All animals are the owner s risk prior to their sale and become property of the purchaser as soon as declared sold by the auctioneer. Bidding: Any disputes or challenges regarding bids or tie bids will be settled by the auctioneer and his decision will be final. Certificate or Registry: A certificate of registry for each animal will be transferred to the buyer at the seller s expense. Announcements: Any errors or changes in information contained in the catalog will be announced from the block and such announcements shall take precedence over the information contained herein. Health: All animals are eligible for interstate shipment. Interstate health papers prepared by an accredited veterinarian will be furnished on each animal sold. Arrangements for International Shipment should be made with the sale staff prior to the auction. All efforts for the exportation of cattle can be arranged through the sale staff. Breeding Guarantee: If a female is sold as open and proves to be with calf the Purchaser may return the animal to the Seller at Seller s expense, prior to calving for a credit of the full purchase price. All females sold as bred shall be considered a breeder without further guarantee. All females sold as bred or pregnant have been pregnancy checked by a licensed veterinarian and are guaranteed bred on the day of the sale. The Purchaser may elect to have any female so listed rechecked at their cost before June 20, 2014 by a licensed veterinarian. Any such female determined open by this recheck may be returned to the Seller for a full refund. Due to conditions not of the Seller s control, once a female leaves Seller s possession, this is the only guarantee offered. Liabilities: All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, auction facility, and sale staff assume no liability for any accidents that may occur. Neither does the seller, auction facility, or sale staff assume liability for the loss or injury to livestock due to theft, mysterious disappearance, sickness, improper handling or Act of God. We owned 2.5% of Packer and have used him quite a bit through the years. I donated some semen to the red Angus Juniors in Missouri and last month it sold for $100 a straw. We are also donating 10 straws of Packer to other Junior organizations so lets see if we can set a new high for Packer semen. We all know it will go up in price as it gets more scarce. Packer has long been a good producer of quality bull calves. We have two of them ourselves. But, his daughters are now gaining in appreciation. 24 Fall Open It sounded like a great idea to again offer all of our 1A heifer calves in this sale. We kept our ET heifers and a few Category 2 heifers. Then when I put the catalog together and think about the performance and genetics that are leaving the ranch I start thinking it isn t near as good an idea as I thought. But, as I mentioned in the opening, we need to make room for our ET females from this year and the ones that will be born this fall. For this reason we think we provide a special opportunity for Red Angus breeders to add quality genetics to your herd without worrying about how picked over they are, or if we are just selling the ones we do not want. This has been a nice set of cows. I bought the 2007 and 2008 Black Angus cows from Steve Hamlin in Eureka, Kansas when he dispersed his reputation registered and commercial cow herd. The 2007 cows are primarily out of the Strategy bull and the 2008 cows primarily out of Image Maker.
