1 Name: Notes: Expository/Informational Text What is it? It is informational text (text that gives information) that explains something to the reader. Expository and informational text are ALMOST the same thing. The only difference is that expository text can include opinions. Informational text just sticks to the facts. Most of the time these two words can be used interchangeably. What is the author s purpose? To inform Expository Text Has clear, organized paragraphs Gives reasons and details Helps the reader understand something Has facts and opinions Includes examples Teaches the reader Some examples include Magazine articles Textbooks Brochures Internet sites Newspaper articles Essays
