5 CFA GC/TICA IW,SGC Terrificats Creme Soda (aka Soda Pop) Terrificats Creme Soda is co-owned with Kazumi Kobayashi of Japan and was cobred with Lisa and Andrew Fuller of Deer Park, Texas (Miaw Maine Coons), Soda Pop was born September 13, at Lisa and Andrew's home, which was a fortuitous event... Lisa and Andrew took Topsey and her four one-week-old kittens, along with their own cats, with them when they evacuated to escape Hurricane Rita...and I will be forever grateful for that. They were able to return to their home after only about a week where I had to stay evacuated almost a month. I showed Soda Pop at the TICA Texas Maine Coonfederacy show at the end of January 2006 for his first show. Soda Pop finaled several times, including a Best Kitten! Then at his second show, a CFA show, other older kittens prevailed. I had thought Creme Soda was more a CFA-style cat, and should do well in CFA...Little did I know... his style, type and charm appealed even MORE to the TICA judges...! But he was a good competitor in CFA, too. In the first CFA show of the season in the Gulf Shore Region, Soda Pop competed as a kitten for the last time at the National Maine Coon Cat Club Show. Two AB judges made him Best AB Kitten, and he made several other finals, too. Soda Pop also became a CFA Grand Champion in three shows last summer. At his very first show as a CFA Grand Champion last September in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Soda Pop was the highest scoring cat in show! He competed in 9 CFA shows as an adult last season, and was awarded one or more Best Cat rosettes at over half of them. He ranked # 26 in the CFA Gulf Shore Region (tho the regional awards stop at 25) and Third Best of Breed Maine Coon in the Gulf Shore Region and Best Other Color Tabby and White Maine Coon in the Gulf Shore Region for the show season. He is also National Second Best Other Color Tabby and White Maine Coon in CFA for In , Soda Pop was 8th Best AB Kitten (and Best of Breed Maine Coon Kitten) in TICA's South Central Region. Soda Pop started the season In TICA as highest scoring cat in his first three shows...and never once fell below the rank of Best Cat in the South Central Regional Standings all season long! In 13 of the 17 TICA shows where Soda Pop competed, he was fifth highest scoring cat or better. The only TICA show where Soda Pop was not awarded at least one Best Cat was at the 2006 TICA Annual in Hanover, Germany...where the competition was so steep that there were 162 cats Allbreed competing in championship...and over 80 of them were Maine Coons! Only three of Soda Pop's TICA shows were out of the South Central Region...two in Louisiana in the Southeast Region and the one foray to Hanover, Germany for the 2006 TICA Annual! Going to the show in Germany was a real stretch for us...my European Maine Coon friends were not optimistic that a moderate cat like Soda Pop (tho meeting the Maine Coon Standard perfectly... lynx tips, large ears, strong chin, nice profile, glorious coat and all...) in a *funky* color with a sweet face graced with a perfect white inverted-v would be able to hold his own with the much more extreme and mostly brown tabby Maine Coons of Europe. They gave me pause...but I also had confidence in my cat, so off we went! The result of Soda Pop's being ranked 3rd Best out of 80+ Maine Coons was quite a thrill! The Maine Coons from the USA that ended up being TICA's Best, 2nd Best, 3rd Best and 5th Best Maine Coons, all IWs in the top 20 AB Cats this season, plus the top ranked European Maine Coons, all competed in Germany. The show results, and meeting face-to-face some of the Europeans with whom I had corresponded for years, plus sharing a room with Zena Pigden of New Zealand, made the trip fully worthwhile! I'll always be grateful to Eddy and Christine Vandebuerie of MaineWalk Maine Coons, who gave Zena and me rides to and from the show, and were otherwise so helpful! The show hall was in the basement of a large building...down several flights of stairs with NO elevator or escalator! If I hadn't had help carting my stuff up and down the stairs....i was also very happy to meet Anneke Kuys of Patchwork Maine Coons and Henning of Canelettos Maine Coons, plus Ulrike Illia from Austria, and the Woods from the UK. I know there are others I've unintentionally omitted...the show was huge and overwhelming with all 12 rings running at the same time! But the ultimate thrill was Soda Pop's final TICA ranking through April 30, Over the show season, fifteen (15) different TICA judges awarded Soda Pop at least one "Best Cat", for a total of 54 Best Cat rosettes! 39 were allbreed Best Cats! Twenty-nine (29) different TICA judges awarded Creme Soda 113 finals over the show season (and he took a month off from showing to recharge from the middle of March to the middle of April!). Soda Pop ended the Show season ranked as Best Cat in the South Central Region of TICA, and is also an International Win- Continued on page 9 Page 5

9 ner for He is 6th Best Cat of the Year and 2nd Best Maine Coon Cat of the Year, per the official notices mailed July 5, 2007 from the TICA Executive Office. I had a wonderful time showing Soda Pop, and couldn't have done it without the support and friendship of Linda Clark, who also exhibited SGA Terrificats Crystal Arabella to 18th Best Alter in TICA's South Central Region and Best Maine Coon Alter in the SC Region. She kept Crystal in perfect condition with impeccable grooming, and also rode herd on me and the gamut of emotions I experienced throughout the season. Soda Pop considers Linda his "other mother"! We had some adventures along the way! It was a quite a memorable show season! Soda Pop will leave from the TICA Annual this coming September 3 with a his new owner, Kazumi Kobayashi, from Hiroshima, Japan (Yanchaboy Maine Coons and American Shorthairs). I've really bonded with this beautiful red silver mc tabby/white boy, who is a true sweetheart...it will be SO hard to let him go! Kazumi is a friend of many years, and I know she will cherish Soda Pop just as I have. GC-IW SGC Terrificats Creme Soda has a wonderful, diverse pedigree combining lots of great lines from all registering associations...trutails, Tops'nCats, Nascat, Terrificats, Tropikoons (Coonoquan), Kankoonkats, Idlemaine, Coonyham, Coonnunnski, Texas Belle, Mainesuspect, Groovycats, Magicoons, Stormwatch...even a bit of Dirigo foundation...and lots of other notable lines..and that's just in the first 6 generations. There's even some Tanstaafl further back! Happily Soda Pop is negative for the HCM DNA mutation on the tests run by Dr. Meurs' lab, and he was sonogrammed for the second time in the spring of 2007 with no sign of HCM at that time. It's everyone's breeding choices in the past that made it possible for a beautiful cat like Soda Pop to be born.. I started showing my cats for titles and regional wins in TICA in 1979; then I switched to showing mostly CFA and exhibited the second ever national winning Maine Coon in Championship...GC/BW/NW Terrificats P.C. Gambit, DM, who was CFA National 14th Best Cat in In the last three years I returned to exhibiting more seriously in TICA...and have had four Terrificats SGCs/SGAs/RWs plus one QGC-RW, and ultimately, this year's TICA IW in Championship...Soda Pop. I'd say things have just about come full circle, and I've met my goals. I helped establish Maine Coons as credible contenders in the show ring in CFA and I exhibited a moderate cat with a very sweet expression to a high IW and 2nd BOB in TICA. Congratulations to all the cats who won awards this past show season... RWs, NWs, IWs, BOBs, Color Wins...any win is important and honorable. It's really awesome that we have five (5) Maine Coon Cats in the Top 20 International Wins in TICA!! Remember to keep on striving for the perfect Maine Coon Cat... I would like to congratulate all the Maine Coons who have achieved Regional, National and International awards this past show season. Liz is showcasing them in this issue for everyone to enjoy. It is great to see how well our breed is doing on the show circuit. Things have sure changed since I first started showing Maine Coons - and mine was the only one in the show! Now numerous Maine Coons are receiving awards in every association. We have really done well in promoting our breed. I think that those pretty purple ribbons that MCBFA provides at the shows have also helped to do that. 11 We knew Redding was special as soon as he was born. So special that it was mid way through his kitten season before we knew what color he was! Thank you Bobbie Tullo for telling us to show him as a solid. He is genetically (non-agouti) and in addition his tabby pattern is ticked so he actually looked solid. He got an IW as a kitten and as a cat in the same year and at his last show a judge still asked if the owner wanted to change how he was registered. Well now the ticked Maine Coon is out of the closet.
