African male lions can weigh up to 550 pounds while the females can weigh up too 400 The African Lion s Habitat is insahara Africa Its ecosystem is grassy plains and thornbush country Lions spend much of their time resting and are inactive for about 20 hours per day. Although lions can be active at any time, their activity generally peaks after dusk with a period of socializing, grooming and defecating. Intermittent bursts of activity follow through the night hours to dawn, when hunting most often takes place. They spend an average two hours a day walking and 50 minutes eating.
5 White Handed Gibbon Scientific Name: Hylobatidae Hylobates lar. Habit Gibbons occur in tropical and subtropical rainforests from northeast India to Indonesia and north to southern China, including the islands of Sumatra, Borneo and Java Adaptations The White-handed gibbon, like the gorilla, chimpanzee and orangutan, is an ape, not a monkey. They share with the great apes (gorilla, orangutan and chimpanzees) several features: a large brain, a flat face with shortened jaws, a more or less upright posture, a broad chest and no tail. Ischial callosities are present.gibbons are very small and lightweight. They have a small, round head, very long arms (the arms are longer than the legs), and a short, slender body. Gibbons have lightweight bones Characteristics: Small tailless apes with very dense, silky, shaggy fur varying from black or dark brown to pale fawn or silver grey. Slender body with short and broad chest cavity. Round head is small with flat forehead and developed chin; brain is relatively small. Small jaws with long canine teeth. Arms are greatly elongated, legs and feet less so. Upper sides of hand and feet are always white ('white-handed'), contrast is less apparent in the buff specimens. Social Interaction Gibbons are social animals that are active during the day (they are diurnal). Gibbons mate for life; the young, born singly, remain with the family group until they are five or six years old. Like other apes, gibbons groom one another (they clean the hair of a family member).
6 Koala Threats Phascolarctos cinereus Koalas live in southern and eastern parts of Australia. They are found mostly in moist woodlands. They can range anywhere from 23.5 to 32 inches long. They weigh between 9 and 33 pounds. There bodies and nose resemble a small bear. Their short long legs are good for climbing. They have dense, woolly, silver-gray-brown fur and long, round ears. Lazy Day? A Koala seems to live a very simple life. A typical day consists of eating and sleeping. Twenty percent eating;eighty percent sleeping. Less than 1% of their time is spent looking for a mate. Humans are the Koala s greatest threat. Many Koalas are threatened from habitat distruction, dogs, motor vehicle collisions, drowning in pools, and impediment of movement from fences. Sometimes these circumtances can lead to death. Did you know.. The common nickname koala bear is very misleading. The Koala has no relationship to the bear at all. Koala s were once endangered!
7 Scientific Name: Suricata Sucricatta A Mob of Meerkats Meerkat Fun Facts: Black rings around their eyes act as sunglasses. 8 inch tail helps them stand upright. Eat anything from insects to small mammals. Are immune to scorpion venom. Meerkats live in the Kalahari Desert where they dig underground burrows. Meerkats are at low risk for extinction Meerkats are only 12 inches tall, and weigh 2 pounds. They travel in mobs or gangs from five to thirty members.
8 Malayan Sun Bear Helarctos Malayanus The Malayan Sun Bear is the smallest bear in the bear family. Its only 70 cm high and weighs 143 pounds. Though its has no pretors than humans. Which is making these bears become extinct because humans are hunting them as a sport and because they eat food off their land. Unusual fact about the Sun Bear is that it walks with all four of its paws inward. unlike other bears And its a big tree climber it spends almost all day in the tree eating or laying out in the sun. DID YOU KNOW... Malayan Sun Bear has a U shape on its chest that can usually be yellow, orange, or white. That s how it received its name the Malayan Sun Bear.

This 12 foot brown spotted animal is a wonderful attraction for anyone. Too bad you can t get to close, because once you get near it, it runs at 45 miles per hour. Giraffes are very protective of their young, and travel in packs. Giraffes are highly populated and not to worried about. But we still need to be careful with the hunting because they can still become endangered later. Especially because of global warming.
14 How to tell them apart Males: feet fully grown Females: 6-7 feet fully grown Short, boney bumps all over their back Females stay and protect eggs Males hunt for food and protects its nest of full Cuban Crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer) They hunt alone but they sunbake together. There are about 3,000-6,000 Cuban Crocodiles living freely in the wild. Years ago people would hunt them for their skin and their meat. that s why they are endangered. If you every hear a Crocodile hiss GET AWAY!!! It either means: he wants to eat you or they are trying to mate. They munch on... Fish, Turtles and small mammals
15 Bengal Tiger An endangered species is a population of an organism which is at risk of becoming extinct because it is either few in number, or threatened by changing environmental or predation parameters. Tiger population: 4000 Panthera P. Tigris Physical Characteristics Male Bengal tigers measure cm[2] with their tail. The tail of a large male is usually cm long. Their weight ranges from 180 to 272 kilograms with an average weight of kg. Males have a maximum skull length of 330 to 380 mm, females 275 to 311 mm. The fur of this subspecies is generally orangebrown with black stripes.
16 Giant Tortoise Geochelone nigra : Dipsochelys dussumieri The giant tortoise is an endangered animal and they are supported by multiple zoos in the Galapagose islands. There is only about 15,000 of them left on the earth. These animals travel alone most of the time. they bob their head up and down and bellow to attract a mate. This animal is a land animal not a water animal. Range: The giant tortoise lives in all of the galapagose islands. Habitat: dry, low elevation, limited food and other resources. and moist, higher elevations, cooler temperatures, food sources closer to the ground A map the range of the Giant Tortoise FACTS: Giant tortoises can be found crammed together, often stacked on top of each other, beneath the shade of the sparse trees and bushes on their island. Tortoises are usually silent, although mating males make a hollow groaning sound that can be heard hundreds of meters away.
