This presentation will cover updates in anesthesia and analgesia, including the use of alfaxalone and local analgesia. 2:00-2:50 PM Basics of Dentistry in Rabbits Dental disease is a common and frustrating disease presentation in rabbits; current information on underlying etiologies and best strategies for treatment are confusing at best. Basic tools to enhance identification and treatment of minor dental conditions is presented, along with an overview of more advanced treatments currently available. 3:00-3:50 PM Humane Euthanasia Techniques for any Exotic Pet The topic of humane euthanasia has re-emerged as fear free techniques evolve beyond simple IV injection of euthanasia drugs. Low-stress, effective techniques for euthanasia of exotic pets are presented, using guidelines from AVMA s current published recommendations. 4:00-4:50 PM Top 10 Things We Need to Know About Treating Pet Birds Avian species present anatomical and physiologic differences that make extrapolation from traditional species more difficult. This presentation covers the top 10 disease presentations seen in avian specialty practices, with important points for disease recognition and management, from stabilization through referral, if indicated. TRACK 2 Dennis French, DVM 1:00-1:50 PM Predicting Health and Productivity in Livestock This talk will discuss clinical reasoning and early life predictive monitors. We will examine how the cow s microbiome defines their calf s overall immunity. We will also examine how different concepts of colostral feeding can affect neonates.
