1 Two EU funded projects present... ff research results ff practical recommendations...in the fight against MRSA BRUSSELS November 2011

2 Welcome We kindly invite you to the PILGRIM - CONCORD Joint Symposium to obtain the latest information on current research on MRSA and its impact on society, animal production and public health. Invited keynote speakers from a wide variety of stakeholder groups will share their expertise, experience and views with you. A warm welcome to the PILGRIM - CONCORD Joint Symposium Prof Katharina Stärk, PILGRIM Coordinator, Professor of Veterinary Public Health, The Royal Veterinary College London (RVC) Prof Ad Fluit, CONCORD Coordinator, Associate Professor, University Medical Center Utrecht 1

3 Introduction On day one, we would like to introduce you to our MRSA-related research activities by presenting our latest results on MRSA epidemiology, generated in the PILGRIM and CONCORD projects. On day two, we will focus on the research in diagnostic molecular tools, modelling and fundamental research and colonisation as well as host specificity. These topics will be followed by presentations demonstrating the practical outcome from both projects and development of suitable interventions against MRSA. A press conference and presentations of key stakeholders from both animal and healthcare settings, as well as policy-makers and industrial and international organisations will present different perspectives on MRSA-related problems. Several organisations and projects related to MRSA will display their activities parallel to the official programme. This will provide a unique opportunity to all participants for further discussion, exchange and collaboration.
