3 OUR JUDGE FRED C. BASSETT I have been involved with showdogs for 47 years, since Pomeranians were my major focus while I was actively breeding and showing. In addition to Poms, I have also owned and exhibited Poodles, Keeshonden, Old English Sheepdogs, Miniature Schnauzers, a Chihuahua, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and an English Cocker Spaniel. We are currently dogless, and live with a Ragdoll cat. I was approved to judge Pomeranians in 1977, and have greatly enjoyed judging dogs for the past 31 years. I am currently approved for all Toy, Non Sporting and Herding breeds, as well as 18 Terriers breeds, Basset Hounds, Junior Showmanship, Miscellaneous breeds and Best in Show. I have judged all over the United States, including many National Specialty shows, and the Westminster Kennel Club. I have also judged a number of overseas assignments including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Europe and Canada. I have been active in dog clubs from the early 1970 s onward and have held virtually every office, and handled every role possible over the years. I am an honorary Life Member of the American Pomeranian Club, and a member of the Mid-Continent Kennel Club of Tulsa, and two of the major judges organizations in the USA. I have been active in mentoring and judges education for Pomeranians for many years, and have given seminars all over the United States. I took over the role as Judges Education Co-ordinator for the American Pomeranian Club effective January My professional career was spent in the Information Technology/Data Processing field. I retired in March, 2005 from a 32 year career in leadership roles working for American Airlines, Sabre Holdings and EDS. I have been married to my wife, Janet, for 36 years. Janet is retired from a career as a Principal and teacher in Tulsa Public Schools, and is now Principal of a private school. We have two grown sons. Scott is 30 years old, married with one 3 year old son. He is an Aerospace Engineer. Todd is 27 years old, single and a graduate student in Kinesiology at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. CONTACT INFORMATION: Fred C. For dogs 9 months of age & under 12 months on the day of the how 12 to 18 MONTHS For dogs 12 months of age & under l8 months on the day of the show CANADIAN BRED BRED BY EXHIBITOR OPEN CLASS TO BE DIVIDED: VETERANS CLASS SPECIALS EXHIBITION ONLY CLASS For dogs born in Canada. Champions of any country excluded. Dogs owned and handled in the ring by the breeder. The handler must be the owner/co-owner and breeder/co-breeder of the dog.the owner/breeder must handle the dog in this class, but need not handle the dog for further awards. 1. Drop ear (Phalene) 2. Erect ear Dogs 7 years of age and over on the day of the show. Dogs entered in this class may be spayed or neutered. Dogs who have a recorded CKC reg n number or an ERNumber and have attained the required points for Champion status. All awards earned at the show shall be cancelled if it is found that a dog is not registered or has not completed the requirements for a CKC championship. Dogs entered in this class will compete for Best of Breed, Best Opposite, and Best Puppy, if eligible Entries in this class may not compete in a Regular class, but may compete in Non-Regular classes and events. Dogs may be spayed or neutered. NON REGULAR CLASSES BRACE SIRE AND GET DAM AND PROGENY This class shall be for 2 dogs (not necessarily of the same sex or the same owner, as of Jan.1/06). Braces will be judged after Best of Breed. A brace should be judged as an identical pair..same colour, size, gait, stride. When viewed from the side, the 2 dogs should appear as one dog and its shadow. A brace must be handled by one person and on one lead. Dogs must be entered officially or for Exhibition Only. Dogs may be spayed or neutered. This class shall be comprised of the stud dog and 2 or more of his get. Ownership in this class need not be identical. The stud dog must be entered in a regular class or Exhibition Only, but the get must be entered in a regular class. Dogs entered in the Stud Dog and Get class may be spayed or neutered, and must be entered in a regular class as outlined in these rules or for Exhibition Only. This class shall have the same requirements as the Stud Dog and Get class. Dogs entered in the Dam and Progeny class may be spayed or neutered, and must be entered in a regular class as outlined in these rules, or for Exhibition Only.

6 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS This schedule to be employed in the determination of the number of points to be allocated to a dog awarded Winners: DOGS COMPETING* or more POINTS ALLOCATED *includes the dog awarded Winners. In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge shall be included in the calculation as of Jan.1/06. In order for a dog to be recognized as a Champion, the dog must have earned at least one 2-point win either at the breed or group level. ERN NOTICE Effective January 1992, all dogs that are foreign-born and foreign-owned and who enter Canada for the sole purpose of entering CKC events will no longer require a CKC registration number. The ERN (Event Registration Number) does not register a dog with the CKC for breeding purposes, but rather enables a foreign-owned or foreign-born dog to be awarded titles for the CKC. Each dog must have its own number. To obtain an ERN, mail or FAX a photocopy of the dog s foreign registration certificatewith a cheque or VISA/Mastercard. Provide your complete address for return of the ERN to you. The cost is $ Dogs may initially be entered as listed, but the ERN must be obtained within 30 days of obtaining points, awards or scores to avoid cancellation. Due to the consistently fluctuating currency rates, discounted cheques will not be accepted, and must be payable in Canadian funds. If a cheque is sent in US funds, it must be made out for the full required fees, and no exchange will be refunded to the exhibitor. Please do not mark cheques payable in Canadian funds, or at par. They will not be cleared by the banks. To simplify the process, we urge that you purchase bank drafts or money order payable in Canadian funds. Your understanding and co-operation is appreciated. RULES AND REGULATIONS *All fees include GST and CKC service charges. *Over-payments will not be refunded. *There will be a $20.00 service charge for any returned cheque or refused credit card. *Entries must be typed or clearly printed on CKC regulation size forms. Please use the form provided. *The Show Superintendent is in full charge of the Specialty, governed by CKC rules. *A judge officiating at a show under CKC rules shall not be subjected to indignities of any kind during the progress of the show. CKC rules: 6.3.3, 6.3.4, *Any dog excused by the Show Superintendent or Veterinarian for any reason shall not compete any further at the Specialty. *The show committee will use due care and diligence for the welfare of all dogs and exhibitors but will not be responsible, nor assume any liability, in the event of accident or misfortune, regardless of the cause. *It is the responsibility of the handler of any dog to be ready at ringside for judging. Handlers should report any absentees. Handlers must have assistants at ringside if they are to be engaged elsewhere. Judging will NOT be delayed. *Entries will be acknowledged as soon as possible after closing. *No dogs will be allowed on the premises unless entered in the Specialty or for the regular shows or trials. *Dogs must be exercised in the designated areas. Offenders may be removed from the show. *Dogs and children must be under control at all times. Dogs may be left in the building overnight. Please check with The Edmonton Kennel Club for building times. *Entries may be cancelled up until closing date, and cancellations must be in writing to the Show Secretary. No fees will be refunded after closing. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter their dogs correctly, and to check to see if FAXES have been received. Exhibitors must abide by their errors. The Show Secretary will not be responsible for any fax not received. *Moving dogs to Specials: must be done one hour prior to the opening of the Specialty Club Show.
