1 Presidents Message Just a quick reminder that you can still send in your reservation for our Club Cookout and celebration on Tuesday, July 18 after a short Membership Meeting. We hope to see you there! If you re new to CCDTC it would be a great way to meet other members. Remember to bring your quarters for the quarter raffle. If you have anything to donate for the raffle please contact Carol Steele. It is hard to believe that soon we will electing officers. Members of the Nominating committee will be looking for volunteers, to help our Club navigate through the next year. Please consider helping out and volunteer for one of the offices. Many people in the dog world are very concerned about the outbreak of dog flu. 4 From Bill Bates: My new girl Demi went to the American Boxer Club National where she went Reserve Month Futurity and won the Open Fawn class in the National Specialty. She showed at the Warren County/Cincinnati shows where she was Winners/BOW/BOS on Friday and then on Monday she went Winners/BOW/Best of Breed for her first BOB win and her championship. Demi is now known as AM/CAN CH Tybrushe s Indecent Proposal From Daniel Glasser: Compass' Point's King of Cohoon aka Tibbs picked up his 2nd major, a 5 pointer at the Bloomington AKC show on May 27th.

5 From Stevie Tempel Lately, Adria has been running Rocko in CPE agility. They have clicked as a team. She was able to get his 10,000th lifetime points, in April, for me. Very proud of her. They both have come a long way. From Karen Spradlin: Congratulations to Karen Spradlin and her Labradoodle, Baxter, who have earned the highest Therapy Dog Title awarded by the AKC. The AKC Therapy Dog program awards official AKC titles to dog teams who have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people they have visited and to award the Human-Animal Bond which is expressed through Animal Assisted Activities, Animal Assisted Therapy, or Animal Assisted Education (READ programs). AKC Therapy Dog titles can be earned by dogs that have performed the required number of visits and who are registered/certified by an AKC recognized Therapy Dog Organization. Baxter has earned these Therapy Titles: THDN, (Therapy Dog Novice) THD, (Therapy Dog) THDA (Therapy Dog Advanced) THDX (Therapy Dog Excellent) and the final therapy title one can earn THDD (Therapy Dog Distinguished). Baxter is registered with Pet Partners and has made over 400 therapy visits. Karen Spradlin is grateful to the AKC for allowing mixed breed dogs an opportunity to become recognized. Baxter has been a therapy dog since Karen has been a Pet Partners Handler since 2009, an Evaluator since 2014, and an Instructor since She has performed many Therapy Information Sessions, Pet Partners Workshops, and Evaluations at the Clermont County Dog Training Club and the Locust Corner Church for the benefit of those interested in therapy work. kspradlin@fuse.net Baxter has visited numerous hospitals, nursing homes, and mental health facilities throughout the Tri-State area. He and Karen are regulars at Batavia

6 Elementary, the Amelia Library, the Forest Hills Care Center, Beckett Springs, and the VA Medical Center. At the VA, they have been assigned to the Suicide Prevention and PTSD floors. Karen instructs the veterans how to obtain a PTSD Assistance/Service Dog while Baxter provides his love for them. In addition, Karen has established the first Clermont County Juvenile Detention Therapy Dog Program to be launched in July. Judge James Shriver recognizes the benefit of the program and Karen met with all the administrators of the CCJDC in May to present her plan. She will be visiting with Baxter, Sheri Yust and Bella on a weekly basis. Baxter s next adventure is to become a Comfort Dog to work at funeral homes during the visitation phase of a funeral. We are very proud of Baxter and Karen. Their love and commitment knows no bounds. Meeting Minutes Clermont County Dog Training Club Minutes from the Membership Meeting, May 16, 2017 The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM by President Sandi McKenzie. There were 16 members and 5 guests present. A motion to accept the minutes from the March Membership Meeting as printed in the Howler was made and accepted. Treasurer's Report Judie Taphorn Checking = $12, PayPal = $ Savings = $8,84.21 Total funds available = $26, Net income for the year to date is $1, Included in Judie's report were a check request form and a purchase order request. These forms are also available on the club web site. Please use them for future expenses.

7 The February Barn Hunt had net income of $ , expenses of $ , for a net profit of $ $620 of the expenses were to pay workers at the trial. This expense could have been avoided if more club members had volunteered to work at the trial. February Norma Smith seminar had income of $ , expenses of $ , for a net profit of $ March CPE agility trial had income of $11,408.00, expenses of $3,686.57, for a net profit of $ Entry fees worth $ were waived to provide key workers with free runs for their dogs. $1,907 in worker bucks were redeemed in lieu of entries and lunch donations. Membership Jackie Barth We have one new applicant Janna McCalla Jackie has received several applications from people who still need to meet some of their membership requirements. Five guests were introduced to the membership. Committees Training Linda Macke, Carol Stephenson There are no obedience classes set up for the next session. Class Registrar Page Belland, Deb Garner Deb Garner has been having a difficult time with registrations because people do not give her correct or enough information. She will no longer process registrations without the required information. Building Jackie called Rod about the leaking toilet. He said he had the parts and would look at it but he just had back surgery. It probably needs new insides. Dale Blewett adjusted the floats a couple of weeks ago. Events Committee Judie Taphorn June has a Barn Hunt, and an Unleashed CPE agility trial. July is the Noseworks seminar. Awards The July meeting will be the annual Awards Cookout. It will be different this year members are asked to bring pictures so everyone can celebrate their dogs' accomplishments. So far, only two people have sent Di a picture. Please don't wait until the last minute. By-Laws A motion was made to change the bylaws: Under Section 2: Eligibility change 1.) to read: Applicants must have attended a minimum of two class sessions (or equivalent) conducted by the Corporation within 12 consecutive months Motion passed.

8 New Business The Barn Hunt committee asked the members for permission to spend $ for 25 ribbons. Motion passed. Craig Heintzelman and Beth Whitehead gave a presentation about the Ohio Police K9 Memorial. We can learn more about it at Brags A brags session was held. Meeting was adjourned at 8:08pm.
