You ll learn all the exercises performed in the Novice and Open levels of obedience trials with the exception of retrieval and jumping. You ll also learn humane techniques for solving a variety of training problems along with real-life application. Basic Training The objective of our Basic Life Lessons Class is to create a personality that will survive in today's society by creating a resilient dog that can think for itself, make correct choices and offer desirable behaviour without having to be asked. We also want a dog that likes new dogs and new people because a dog that likes new dogs and people is unlikely to bite them. Because of this, ongoing socialization is an important part of all three levels of our training classes. In our Basic Life Lessons class we teach the following cues and hand signals for: recall, sit, lie down, stand, stay, leave it, drop it and take it and watch me. We teach an offered sit for greetings, excite & settle, handling exercises, walking on a loose leash, go to your bed, fading treats and replacing treats with other resources. You ll learn about cause and effect, resource control, selfcontrol, rules for games and much more. And we focus on temperament molding and problem solving to prevent long-term social and behavioural issues. 12 Are you unable to mentor with one of our CCS Approved Mentors? No problem! With hundreds of students and graduates in ten countries, many successful CCS grads were unable to join us for hands-on mentoring. These students followed the comprehensive manuals and videos and applied the skills with their own dogs and/or dogs belonging to family and friends. Others volunteered at local SPCAs or positive reinforcement dog training facilities to apply their skills. They would call or me to guide them any time they had problems or questions. CCS Talks Positive Facebook Group The CCS Talks Positive Facebook group is exclusive to CCS students and graduates for the purpose of supporting, guiding and assisting one another through the course, and through starting and maintaining a successful dog-related business. It s a valuable forum for sharing new information and ideas to help one another trouble shoot problems, and to keep you up to date on upcoming conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures, symposiums and events. This allows you to access not only Greg s and my experience but also the experience of all the other CCS students and graduates worldwide. You ll find our members positive, helpful and supportive. 12
