Members Present: Heather Dietz, Kim Dailey, Jeff Ryman, Tamara Marcotte, Len Whitney and Cyndi Appelhof Guests: None APPROVAL OF AGENDA: approved as printed. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING: The December meeting minutes were approved by the Board and made available in the newsletter. There were no corrections from the membership and the minutes stand as approved by the Board. REPORTS OF THE OFFICERS: Report of President (Heather Dietz): Heather thanked everyone for coming Report of Vice President ( Tamara Marcotte ): Tamara thanked everyone for coming and said how nice the xmas party was in Dec. that she hosted. Report of Secretary (Kim Dailey): Thanks for coming, will be putting together a welcome packet for new members. Correspondence Rec d AKC Statement of Compliance, Seattle Kennel Club, John Allen, Sandy Fisher, Melanie Trichler Correspondence Sent Seattle Kennel Club, John Allen, Sandy Fisher, Melanie Trichler AKC Compliance form filled out and taken care of by Heather Dietz. Report of Treasurer (Sandy Fisher): Absent. Kim Dailey shared the monthly report for December 2013 and the annual report for January December 2013 on Sandy s behalf and passed them around the room for review. No questions Only 48% of renewal of membership back. The board decided that a spate be sent to members not yet paid as a reminder. COMMITTEE REPORTS: 2014 BCGS Specialty Shows (Jay Serion): Absent. No report. Show Chairman: Jay Serion- No report. Heather Dietz will check in with him on progress and update. Show Committees: Melanie reported that she had spoken to Jay and there are committees already being formed for our specialty show. Those that would like to volunteer for a committee to please get in touch with Jay at serionjay@hotmail.com. Logo submissions needed by Feb. 3, Kim Dailey will send out to club and bring back submissions at the next meeting Kim Dailey talked about inviting Rescue (Michelle/ Bulldog Haven NW) to have a booth at the Specialty if not already included. Advertising (Robin Harris): Absent. No report. Bulltique (Vacant): Kim Dailey will be getting items back from Rich and Susan Ball. Kim will be doing an inventory and starting it back up slowly. Kim suggested inviting Rescue to share a spot on the table to help offer a space for them at our events. Bulltique items are always welcome. Legislation Liaison (Vacant): Newsletter (Tamara Marcotte): Newsletter went out last month next one due to go out. Articles, photos, or other materials for the newsletter always are helpful. Public Education (Vacant ): Kim Dailey will take on. Inventory items in storage space Fun match was discussed and Tamara will check on Pawsability for 1 st week in June. Jeff wanted to have an Easter Parade in Snohomish and will be checking on details to report back. This has been done in the past and was a success. Discussion of a group meet up walk Green lake or Centennial trail in Snohomish. Ways and Means (Vacant): We are still seeking a Ways and Means committee chairperson T-shirts- Jeff and Len are working on details to get them by specialty and hopeful for the Seattle show. Hoping to have this information by our next meeting 2

3 so we can make a final decision on colors and price and we can start taking orders. Website (Deniece Humphries): Absent. Tamara will send info to Denise for change of address for Secretary / New membership The Latest Wrinkle 2014 BCGS January Meeting Minutes Requesting our time be as close to after show time on Saturday. Tamara will chair Meet the breed. She will be in charge of schedule and volunteers. Kim Dailey will be the chairpersons to organize the booth (set-up, tear-down, volunteers) ELECTION OF NEW MEMBERS: John Allen, previous member and attends a lot of events. Approved his renewal. ELECTION OF NEW BREEDERS TO THE BREEDER REFERRAL PROGRAM: No applications to consider. John Allen put this on his application but has not been a member in the past 2 years. Several years had lapsed from his last membership. (2008 was his last membership) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 501c3 Status Update (Rich Ball/ Ed Harris): Absent. No report. NEW BUSINESS: 2016 BCA Nationals Reviewed in December also a bid from Oregon. Vote in 2 weeks at National Meeting. Jeff will be attending New Business 2014 BCGS Meeting and Events Schedule (Heather Dietz ): BCGS plans to hold and/or participate in the following events in 2014 Seattle Kennel Club Breed Booth and Meet the Breed (March 8-9), Fun Match, Specialty Shows (August 11-13), Slobberfest, Halloween Party, America s Family Pet Expo, Christmas Party (Dec.). We have dates for a few of these events already. The rest will be finalized in the next couple months. Seattle Kennel Club Breed Booth and Meet the Breed (Kim Dailey) This year s shows are March 8 and 9 at the Century Link Field Event Center. We made a formal decision to participate in the Breed Booth and Meet the breed. We received an application to submit for Meet the Breed. Tamara will complete and submit the form. Membership Renewal (Sandy Fisher): Absent. Kim Dailey reported on Sandy s behalf. 48 % members have renewed. The board thought a renewal reminder to those that have not renewed should be sent out. If you have not yet renewed, please send your renewal to Sandy or use the PayPal option on the website to renew your membership. You can request a new renewal package by contacting Sandy by or call There was some discussion about the decrease in club membership and we talked about ways to encourage more membership. There was some talk about puppy buyers being contacted and invite them to be members. Jeff suggested a postcard inviting old members to an upcoming event with member /website info on the card. Can & Int Ch Sittingbullies Glad Tidings UD RE OAP NJP NAP TN-N CA NDD DD HIC RATI THD CGC, aka "Gabe" completed the requirements for induction into the BCA Hall of Fame for Companion Events last May when he earned the final leg of his Utility Dog title. The Utility Dog title is the highest level of training in obedience and includes: The Signal Exercise: The dog completes a heeling pattern, including a stand-stay, down, sit and come from across the ring--all done with signals only Moving Stand: The dog must stop at a stand while the handler continues on, waiting while the judge performs an exam, then return directly to heel position when commanded by the handler. Scent Discrimination: The Dog must locate and retrieve two articles which have been scented by the handler--metal and leather--from among a set of 10 and a Directed Jumping Exercise: The dog must go promptly towards the opposite side of the ring away from the handler, down the center of the ring, then turn and sit when commanded, and return over a specific jump when directed by the handler. Directed Retrieve: The dog must turn in sync with his handler and retrieve a specific glove as ordered by the judge from among three which are laid across the back of the ring. Gabe has now completed 20 titles which include breed championships, obedience, agility, rally, lure coursing, draft, herding instinct, barn hunt, and therapy work...with several more titles in the works! He was also awarded an Honorable Mention Medallion in the 2013 AKC Humane Fund ACE Awards this past fall under the "Exemplary Companion" category.
