A Reports of Committes-2012 Nationals It is appropriate to put summaries here --updated Marie Miller: Trophy Donations Report:To date we have committed monies of $1925 Collected $1650 I have sent several mass s out and have posted on the UDC Facebook Page. I contacted the DPCA as well and they said they would share the information with their membership.

Linda Lindic: My Nationals responsibilities were to create the Premium List and solicit advertisements for the Nationals Catalog. The Premium Lists was mailed out on February 15th. Costs: $ for Printing and Supplies; $ for Postage. Total Cost $ Catalog Advertisements: To date, 03/15/12 - we have sold 5 catalog advertisements for a total of $ B&W pages at $30.00 each and 2 Covers at $ B&W page - Marie Miller B&W page - Sue Kelly Walsh B&W page - Pacific Northwest Doberman Club (Member Club) Color - Inside Front Cover - Loel Turpin Color - Back Cover - Wendy Schmitt Color - Inside Back Cover - Purina (per our agreement) Linda Kye: My husband and I just returned from visiting with Linda Kurz and touring the Purina Farms facility. We also stayed at the Host Hotel. I am happy to say we were very pleased with both. The people at the Host Hotel were very excited that we chose them. They were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and there was a nice area to walk our dogs. Very close by the hotel was a grocery store, a deli, a Laundromat along with several restaurants. The staff at Purina Farms was extremely helpful. They took us on a tour of the available tracking fields to allow us to choose which would be best for our event. We did take several pictures which we will share with the UDC members. We checked out where the IPO trial would take place and received special permission for parking for the participants to facilitate their access to the field. We also was able to see where the Draw party and the Banquet will be held. All in all we were very pleased and I would like to give a special thanks to Linda Kurz for doing all of the leg work on this. She went above and beyond. Thank you Linda you did great. Attached is the budget for the IPO trial. Ann Conroy: Ribbons/Rosettes = $940 (I am working to reduce that but will not have numbers until early next week -- so lets stay with this figure for your meeting) Trophy's -- budget given was $ we have about 90 customized awards to supply based upon the premium. We will NOT go over this amount, but as of right now we will spend it all. IF we do not have entries in a particular division/class/category we will not "buy" rosettes for it. In addition I will hopefully be able to return awards, too. So, this means that the 2000 is a max and we will do what we can on 4/5 to reduce it. I also have six judges gifts -- not sure if there is a budget for those

Beth Bishop: The costs for the two obedience judges will be appx$250. Excluding trophy and paperwork costs, we would need and entry of 8 to 9 ( for both trials combined) to break even. There are no costs associated with the CGC Linda Kurz: The seminar/workshop is oversubscribed. I have requested the presenters and Purina concerning the possibility of extending the workshop by one half day. We will then have costs additional of $400 plus lunch for seminar fees but we will not have additional lodging fees. However, this will depend on those I will have to bump being willing to shift to Wednesday. We do not have many UDC entries. However, my local training group as well as the AKC members have responded enthusiastically. If UDC entries increase (note I have not been advertising the workshop since it more than filled), then we will have to bump many of the AKC entries. I have not had time to update my budget yet but we will certainly have a modest profit. It will be greater if we had more observers. I will update when I hear from Purina and the presenters about the extra half-day. I have requested Gay/Ray for an update on the silent auction concerning whether we can expect more items to arrive, the status of those items returned because they were dog clothing items unlikely to fit many Dobermans, etc.i will post their response when I receive it. There are very few entries to our national. No obedience at all, only 2 or 3 conformation entries. I hope things turn up soon. I believe that there should be a push to get some enthusiasm. Facebook, icontact messages would be appropriate. There are 4 BH entries but one of these is the person with the PSA dog IV. B Data base and Web Update Chris Rasmessen I submitted a cursory set of specifications regarding a web based version of the registry which would allow not only Linda K to enter dogs, but allow members to search for dogs. Since the site would allow members to view the data, the member database should reside in the same place. This makes sense since Linda Kurz currently maintains people's addresses as owners of dogs, as does Linda Kye for addresses of members. Many times, these are the same people. People could renew their memberships via the site, see the membership directory, etc if everything was in one place. I have a highly talented web developer who is willing to work on this system, but it is a large endeavor and will cost a lot of money. (i.e., in the thousands of dollars) We will need fund raising in order to do this work. We might even be able to set up a system whereby people can buy web memberships like working-dog.eu to query our database. Something to consider if we can offer more than workingdog.eu can as far as health testing and titles etc. Just a thought. This is a serious endeavor and I know I won't have anyone's attention until after the National, so I have back burner-ed it for now. However, we are hanging on by a thread as far as our registry, membership, and web presence is concerned. I was not planning on having this web developer also become the web master. There main website is mainly static information, with only events, even results, and litter announcements. I was also not planning on having this web developer re-write the online entry system. However, with all the membership data in one place, the online entry system could at least use the same database.

As a reminder: I have been managing web development and database design since the early 90s. I currently work for a well known research company doing this for a living. However, I will not be doing any of the programming work myself - I spend WAY too many hours behind a monitor all day long. IV. C AWDF Delegates Report Linda Kurz I have approved the nomination of Wendy Schmitt to serve on the AWDF board of directors. Should her election be successful the president will need to work with her and our other delegate, May Jacobson to appoint another delegate or to serve himself. Each club is allowed two delegates one of which can be the president of the organization. During the past two years, our delegates have been Wendy Schmitt and May Jacobson. These two individuals represent a broad spread of UDC interests. Wendy Schmitt: So there is much turmoil in the AWDF at the moment. UScA is trying to take control of the AWDF and unfortunately may win since the have placed their members in so many controlling positions and basically may be able to get it passed. If you have friends with other breed clubs or DVG..,they are supporting UScA, please have them speak to the powers that be the importance that each club has equal power/vote within the AWDF. IV. D AWDF 2012 Team Report Erin Coffee The "official" last day for a letter of intent is March 25th, but so far we have: Brandi with a SchH1 dog and a ShcH3 dog Beverly Labeau with a SchH3 dog There is a new person who says she just sent in her UDC membership and registration and she wants to compete. Her name is Kjersti Daabakk and she would have a SchH3 dog. She sounds like she really wants and intends to trial if her membership gets accepted. Those are the 3 serious people. Victoria Hall and Wendy have been sniffing around though so maybe we will pick up one of those. Wendy Schmitt is a maybe based on work IV. E1 Members Communication with I Contact No Report IV. E2 Member Communications for UDC Focus Linda Lindic : Robin Nuttall our new publisher has done a great job on the FOCUS. Our 4th Qtr Printed Edition on the UDC Nationals and our 1st Qtr Edition were published on time. Both editions have gotten great reviews from our membership. However, we still face the recurring problem of getting our members to place advertisements in our digitial issues. It is my hope that we could sell enough advertising to cover our printing and mailing expenses on the 4th Qtr 2012 edition. Unless we are able to sell a substantial number of advertisements in the next three issues, it will be very challenging to meet that goal. The advertisements are reasonably priced - we just need our membership to support the FOCUS by placing ads. The majority of the membership wants a printed edition but unfortunately is not will to place advertisements to support that process.

IV. E3 Member Communication with Facebook Brandi Williams: We are now up to 248 "likes". People are starting to "share" our posts more. I would caution the other admin about their posts and "likes". Please remember if you are logged in as UDC that you are representing the club and to "like" a product or kennel etc could be inappropriate as the UDC does not promote these products etc. I am trying to "unlike" some things, but am so far unsuccessful. IV. E4 Member Communication with Zazzle Store Linda Lindic: Total payments to date from Zazzle are $ IV. F Working Breeder of Distinction Program No Report IV. G Bred for Working Program Linda Kurz: When the national is over, this program will be one of my top priorities. I simply have not had the time to work on it. Unfortunately, there has been one litter registration application for colored papers that was withdrawn because the parents did not have working titles (they had ZTP's). The litter owner was incensed and would not accept a regular litter registration instead but they did not strictly meet the criteria for that either (some of their health tests were a month or so too old). So much has slipped because of the scarcity of volunteers and the overwork of the few who remain dedicated to dog club work. Thanks to you all. IV. H Winter Membership Drive Brandi Williams: The membership drive was very successful. I am not sure what the total of new members during this time frame was (Linda K?), but I do know that we were voting on 20+ members at a time and I don t remember that happening before. IV.I Breed Survey Demo at DPCA Jim Toman Report Regarding your Monday morning report I have several things to address/report. The first is our breed survey for DPCA. This is going to be held this Sunday. May J and Ray C.will be both the judges and commentators of this event.. We have at least 6 dogs that will compete in this demo. I have found both a videographer and 2 photographers for the event at no charge, but we will have to do something for them eventually. Once that is done it will hopefully be put in the proper format to give to DPCA for their website. I will give a further report when this is over. Ray Carlisle Report FYI, this weekend we are filming a "Mock" Breed survey for educational purposes on my training field. Several members are bringing their dogs and we also have a very professional film crew that has donated their services. Thanks to "Jim Toman" for making the arrangements and "May Jacobson" for her expertise. The weather looks very good! We certainly appreciate those volunteers who are helping with all aspects of this very important educational film. Wonderful things can happen when we all work together

On Sunday March 18 we completed our Breed Survey. All went very well. There was much time involved reading rules and making sure all of our i's were Dotted and t's were crossed. This is all quite different in front of a camera. We have approximately 5 hours of video and around 5000 pictures. Yes There was one videographer and 3 photographers who clicked nonstop. Two of the photographers were new to dogs and this was a big plus. There were numerous occasions where they stopped the narration and asked that it be made clearer to a new person. This will certainly make the final version better. The event was judged by both Ray Carlisle and Dr. May Jacobson. I must say they both did a fine job and gave an excellent narration. Now for the hard part. This all has to be edited to be placed on the DPCA website. IV. J Fall IPO Classic Sherry Beck: I just finally spoke to Tom Hullsman, listed below is what we talked about I need approval and a letter on letterhead outlining these terms with a $100 check for deposit. He also needs information about our insurance coverage for the Fall Classic. Who will do this or where do I get letterhead to write the letter and who signs it? And who do I need to approve this agreement? For $ = he will provide Schutzhund training grounds for two days Two helpers Track layer Tracking fields (within 9 miles) Club house that will provide food for sale on both days In addition I have talked with May and they can get Beno for $400 and one nights lodging. As for the trophies, we have stuff left over from last year, and we could use anything that is left over from the Nationals this April. Linda Kurz: I have requested that Sherry get a contract with the field owner at which time we will have Irina send him a deposit. In addition I have sent her forms for the insurance and also UDC letterhead so that she can make up an official looking contract. I think that this project is on track at this time. V. A Unfinished Business- Record Poll Results Linda Lindic: Make motion to approve the recent poll to approve Marsha Sheppard as Southwest Regional Director to fill in the remaining term of Sandi Atkinson. Beth Bishop: I move we record the poll to approve Marsha Sheppard as the Southwest Regional Director to serve the remaining term of Sandi Atkinson Linda Kye: Second Motion V. A1 Unfinished Business-Poll to Approve Results Linda Lindic : motion to approve the recent poll to approve Marsha Sheppard as Southwest Regional Director to fill in the remaining term of Sandi Atkinson.

Beth Bishop: move we record the poll to approve Marsha Sheppard as the Southwest Regional Director to serve the remaining term of Sandi Atkinson. Linda Kye to Second Linda Kurz requests Beth to place this motion on ballot, Michelle Limoges and Wendy Schmitt in favor V. A2 Unfinished Business-Poll to approve Service dog Award Make motion to approve the recent poll for the UDC Service Dog of the Year. UDC 2012 Service Dog of the Year Award nomination Dog First Stryk Zen of the Buddha (Bodie) Titles Narcotics Detection Dog with Lecompte Police Department (DEA-registered), Lecompte, LA; IBCA Int l. Champion & National Champion; UKC Champion, CGC Owner/trainer/handler Peter Betchley, DEA-Drug Enforcement Agency registered K-9 Handler Liinda Lindic: I make a motion to approve the poll for the Service Award. Michelle Limoges has seconded the motion and Beth Bishop will add to the ballot VI. A New Business-Albino/Z Factor Dobermans UDC Member Suzan Shipp has petitioned the Board to prohibit the UDC Registration of Albino and Z-Factored Dobermans and to prohibit their participation in UDC Events. Linda Kurz: As a point of information, we have already registered several WZ Dobermans (of normal color). Personally, I believe that we should not refuse to register any purebred Doberman with AKC registration. I do not believe that the albino dogs would be able to compete in the working dog sport in any case if they are photosensitive as is claimed by those adamant about the health effects of this mutation. Should we decide to proceed with this, then we would need to change our constitution and that requires a written member ballot. The discussion of this issue on some of the other lists has reached a new low in nastiness. The same persons are equally adamant concerning not allowing a choice of natural ears and tails. Jim Toman made a motion to have this placed on ballot. Linda Lindic seconded motion. VI. B New Business-Use as Primary Communications Linda Lindic: Given the cost of paper based mailings, it has been proposed by several members that we form a committee to look at our various UDC paper based mailings and determine the feasibility and impacts of switching over to electronic messaging. 1)Need appoint members to committee 2)Need to make a list of the various mailings 3)Need to identify impacts - i.e. rule change or C&B change?; technical ability of creating and updating lists; impact to members; etc.

VI. C Retire Traveling Trophies Linda Lindic: It has been suggested that we should retire our traveling/perpetual trophies that our given out at the Nationals do to the cost and labor of shipping and keeping track of the trophies. Any new Perpetual trophies must be of the type like the Vic Monteleon trophy where the winner is given a plaque and the trophy is kept in the possession of the donor with the winner's name recorded on the trophy.
