Pets have been aside man-kind since the beginning. Many people say that a pet is the image of that owner but just in pet form. Pets can teacher valuable life lessons and can be a way to put some love in their lives where it may have been needed. There are many fees behind adopting a pet like shots, food, and entertainment, but also a lot of things shelters do to ensure that the owner and pet will have a loving and healthy life together. When adding a new edition to the family it shows a life lesson the whole family can learn and develop from. Adopting a pet come with a big hefty fee one that will shock anyone. Adopting a pet comes with shots, parasites treatments, food, comfort. And there are some extras like collars, ID tags, microchips, and getting neutered. Shots give a pet a vaccine to prevent a pet from catching something and getting ill. Shots are expensive but help give your pet a long healthy life The cost of intake vaccinations for dogs to prevent distemper, parvo, kennel cough, and rabies can cost approximately $40 for the animal shelter, If you were to pay for these vaccinations yourself you could be paying anywhere from $20-$150 dollars (Dog Adoption Fees Explained.). Parasites treatments can help prevent a parasite from attaching to any pet but can

These treatments can stop fleas, ticks, ear mites, heartworms, and Lyme disease These treatments can cost approximately $10- $30 assuming that no labs are need. Lyme disease treatment can cost anywhere from $20-$100 depending on the size of the dog (Dog Adoption Fees Explained.). The owner would also have to buy of course food for the pet. The cost to feed a dog for a month in an animal shelter can range greatly based on the resources of the shelter, but a general ballpark estimate is round $40- $60 (Dog Adoption Fees Explained.) this does not include any special diet for the pet, but is just basic food, but it is about the same price as the shelter unless it is a special diet then it will vary in price. Then the owner has choices for some extras like microchips that locate a pet if it has gone missing. Then there are collars, toys, and leashes if the owner would like to buy. But with all this there is life lessons that are being learned through all the care and love an owner shows their pet. Children can benefit the most from owning a pet. Children with dogs display improved impulse control, social skills, and self-esteem. And for emerging readers, reading to a dog is an easy way to feel comfortable (10 Things You Might Want to Know About Dog Adoption). One life lesson is that one may learn how to become independent and a leader. The owner has a lot of responsibility on them and stepping up and taking care of a pet has a lot of responsibility involved. Another is learning to become compassionate and loving. These skills are needed to take care of a pet and will help create a bond with the pet. Many pets are put onto the streets daily and shelters take in many animals daily too, but can not take or help in every single animal. Many animals daily are put out onto the streets because of not being able to take care of the pet, the owner not liking the pet anymore, or the pet running away, or maybe the pet getting left behind from moving or left at a certain place. Within the next year, 29 million people just like you intend to bring a pet into their families. If

3 Nelson 3 fewer than 10 percent of them just 2.4 million choose to adopt, we will save all the dogs and cats who currently enter shelters (WHY ADOPT?). There are many pets out there looking for a home but some people may think just that they might not be right for them. But on the other hand, there are many pets sitting at a shelter just waiting to be adopted but some of them may never be adopted because they be unwanted or may be of old age. The fees when adopting an animal are not expensive when it comes to the long healthy life of the animal. The fee of adopting an animal goes a long way. The fee a person may pay when adopting an animal will include the first couple of shots, the care they put the animal in, and the food and water the animal had used during the time they were there. Adopting an animal is worth it because people will be making sure that people do not support any cruel and merciless conditions and any puppy mill industry. By adopting people can make sure that at least that animal has been saved from a harsh and cruel life ahead and will now live with love and peace by the side of the owner. When adopting, the owner should get some things in check before finally bringing the pet into their new home. One thing owners should do before bringing a pet home is creating a pet friendly schedule. Including in the pet in the owner s day will be beneficial to both. Creating a schedule where the owner can spend time with the pet, and time where the pet can get fed through the day, and a time where the pet can be checked up on and played with to ensure a happy life for both. Also, another way to prepare is to create a budget to where if in an emergency the owner can easily or not break the bank when they need money for their pet. Also, another thing a new owner should do is to create a bond with the animal and to ensure that the animal is taken care of and both understand that love is both ways. Creating a bond with the animal is not an easy one, but is

4 Nelson 4 an amazing thing when done correctly and sustained the owner and pet will be in good conditions and live an extraordinary, happy, and optimal life. When adopting a pet and being new to the whole operation it can be scary at moments by not understanding something or believing what some myths may say to do. But having a pet is supposed to be a beautiful thing and not to where the pet has to be taken away from the owner or family. All people can learn a valuable life lesson and it is life as in living things and how we treat other life even outside of the human species and in to all other species as well. People should never treat anything or anyone in any kind of harsh or cruel way but treat all in a manner that people would be proud of. Adopting a pet is not hard it is just putting some thought in to what needs to be done before and after having a new pet enter the live of the owner.
