Board s present: Sandy Harris, Camille Stephens, Mike Higgs, Leslie Peters, Sue McGowan. General s present: Susan Hoffman, John Sivertson, George Utermohle, Jamie Criss, Jessica Patton. II. Event Planning. Agenda approved by Unanimous Consent (U/C) with additions. B. Approval of the minutes from previous meeting, 10/20/2011: III. Discussion Items, C., change the word approval to concurrence. Minutes from 10/20/11 approved by U/C, with change as noted. C. Acceptance of the treasurer s report: Leslie Peters presented the CKCoJ Treasurer s Report in a new format containing five pages. Discussion about categories and combining nos. 4 and 5 (Obedience and Rally Obedience respectively) into one category called Obedience. Also, make a separate category for Classes (PuppyK, Manners, Beginning Rally, CGC, etc.). Some discussion about the need for, or how to track Doggie Dollars. The treasurer s report was then approved by U/C. D. Approval of new s: Maureen Shivers, Janacie Peters (provisionally approved 10/20/11) and new Megan Eagle officially approved by U/C. III. Discussion Items A. Equipment inventory: Carryover. Done on 11/11/11. Camille will give a hard copy (in Excel format) to Treasurer and send an electronic file to George Utermohle to publish on club website. B. Gastineau Humane Society Pet Festival report: Carryover. Leslie reported that the club made a little money at the pet festival. Leslie was thanked for her work in setting up the area and for sales and demonstrations on behalf of CKCoJ. C. CKCoJ classes procedures: Carryover. Mike Higgs made a motion to form a committee to review procedures for event planning, Leslie seconded the motion. Motion carried, with 6 yes votes and 2 no votes. Mike will do a request for committee volunteers on CKCoJ-Announce. D. Club practices not advertised/published on website: Carryover. Deleted. E. CKCoJ North American Flyball Association (NAFA) ship. Board approved joining NAFA at 10/20/2011 meeting. 5

6 F. Membership list (added by Susan Hoffman): Susan asked how often the ship list was updated as several current s that had come to Mt. Jumbo practices were not on the list. Mike replied that when he receives the applications and the CKCoJ board approves new s, he adds the information to the ship list. Renewing s are added immediately as well. The list is now up-to-date, except for the new s approved tonight. G. Doggie Dollars update (added by John Sivertson): John resigned from being Doggie Dollar coordinator, with many thanks for his service from the board. IV. Action Items A. Pet Photos with Santa update: Camille noted that holiday pet portraits without Santa was this coming eekend at the Mendenhall Mall, with Patti Kalbaugh being the photographer. John Sivertson noted that Camille was interviewed on the radio, giving historical anecdotes about previous pet photos and information about holiday pet portraits and pet photos with Santa; Leslie noted that the information was posted on Craig s List and Facebook, with posters being placed around town and notices in Juneau Empire and Capital City Weekly. B. Revised event budget: Carryover C. Agility trial: Carryover: Mike noted there will be 3 trial events and 1 workshop put on by the trial judge- need 10 people to make workshop a go; Sue moved to approve the Agility Trial for August 11, 12- Mike seconded- trial approved by U/C. D. Obedience/Rally trial: Carryover: approved at last meeting. E. Flyball fees: Carryover F. Christmas party: at Jill Grose s house, December 21 st, time to be determined. G. Doggie Dollar Policy Renewal for 2012: 3 no votes, 6 yes votes, motioned passed to renew. V. Routine Updates/Reports A. 8 Holiday Reminders for Pet Owners Pet-proof decorations Fasten the Christmas tree to a wall or secure it another way to prevent your cat or dog from knocking it over. Some chemicals that extend the life of trees are poisonous. Cover the treated area with a section of window screen. Hang breakables, tinsel, and other tempting decorations well out of paw's reach. Tinsel, ribbon, and ornaments are especially dangerous to pets if they chew or swallow them. Place holiday plants out of pet's reach. Many seasonal plants are poisonous, including mistletoe, holly, and poinsettias. Treats to eat Don't share any candy with your pets, especially chocolate. Candy is toxic for animals and can cause vomiting, restlessness, heart disturbances, and even death. Tell your children not to share their candy with the family pet. If you suspect your pet has eaten chocolate or other candy that causes discomfort, consult your veterinarian immediately. Cooked poultry bones splinter and can be dangerous for pets to chew. Don t give your pet turkey skin or other high-fat holiday dishes. Even in small quantities, these may up set your pet's systems. In larger amounts, high fat may be fatal. Instead of people food, give pets a few of their favorite pet treats during special meals or at par ties. Gift and goodies Avoid toys with small parts or those made of soft materials that pets can chew up and swallow, especially aggressive chewers. Avoid hard plastic dog bones as they can they can splinter or shed fragments that dogs swallow. Nylon-type chews don't splinter and last longer. Don't forget the homeless animals. Our shelter animals always need donations of food and toys. It's an excellent way to teach children generosity towards those less fortunate. Reduce the chances of losing your pet Confine your pets in a quiet room away from parties and family gatherings. Pets, especially dogs, may be easily excited or threatened by unfamiliar people. Make sure your pet wears a valid CBJ animal license tag. It's the cheapest form of insurance and the law. When Animal Control rescues a lost pet, they identify the owner using the license tag and then notify the owner. 8

9 Wags and Brags Poika Petaisto achieved his NATCH title at the NADAC trials in Corvallis Oregon. It was perfect timing because this top title took almost four years and cost as much as a college degree from Inga's alma mater Oregon State University. 9
