PFA HYDERABAD It s Their Life Too! ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS 2017 ANIMAL PROTECTION WORK NOTEWORTHY RESCUES UPDATES FROM THE RESCUE HOME EVENTS VACANCIES DONATION APPEAL
ANIMAL PROTECTION WORK Operation Swetcha 20 August 2017: PFA Hyderabad rescued 33 camels, including two baby camels, that were being taken for slaughter. On 18 th of August, we received information that around 33 camels were being taken for slaughter from Musheerambagh. Upon investigation it was found that for the past ten years the camels were being brought from Jhalawar, Rajasthan, 1-2 at a time, under the pretence of using them for joy rides, to avoid raising suspicion. With help from GHMC, we caught the two culprits, from Dabilpura and Maula Ali, respectively, selling camel meat. A case has been filed under section IPC 429 and the PCA Act, and investigation is underway. Interim custody of the camels has been handed over to PFA Hyderabad. Here are a few pictures of the camels, now safe with us at our new rescue home at Medchal. We request our supporters to help us raise funds to safely transport them back to Rajasthan. Follow us on Facebook for more updates on this amazing rescue story!
Stolen dogs rescued from hut dwellers January 16, 2017: PFA Hyderabad team, along with Hayathnagar police, rescued eight stolen dogs including rottweilers, dachshunds and German shepherds from hut dwellers near Ramoji Film city. Upon receiving a complaint from volunteers, PFA conducted a raid on the hut dwellers housing and selling the dogs of expensive breeds. The dogs were kept in a deplorable condition, chained to trees, with ropes tied tightly around their mouths. The hut dwellers refused to disclose where they had got the dogs from, and did not have any proof of ownership. Some locals said that pet dogs that were kidnapped or had got lost in the city were housed in the huts and put up for sale. The price ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 45,000, depending on the dogs breed and age. The dogs have been adopted into loving homes and are now leading a happy lives. PFA files a case against man who burnt pups alive 16 January 2017: Ramakrishna, working as a watchman at Bowenpally, dairy farm road, set fire to some bushes in which a dog and her puppies were sleeping. A case has been booked by PFA Hyderabad under section 11(1) a and l of PCA Act as well as IPC 429.
One of the pups died on the spot, another one succumbed to second degree burns and breathed his last, and yet another one is out of danger and is undergoing treatment at Blue Cross of Hyderabad. The mother of the puppies ran away in shock and was nowhere to be found. PFA takes up yet another case of animal abuse 18 January 2017: Rajeev Choudhary, who owns a kirana shop at Madhavarpuri colony, and his friends beat a puppy to death brutally with bricks and sticks. PFA Hyderabad has registered a case against the offenders under section 11 (1) a and I of PCA Act 1960 as well as Violation of IPC 429.
PFA Hyderabad catches illegal traders of peacock feathers 28 January 2017: With the help of the anti-poaching squad, PFA Hyderabad caught illegal traders of peacock feathers. Upon interrogation, the offenders, who were from Uttar Pradesh, said they were procuring the feathers from Agra, and that there were five more people working with them. They have been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation. #stopillegalwildlifetrade #stopanimalabuse Horse riding school booked for negligence: 28 January 2017: PFA Hyderabad has filed a case against city based "Iron Horse Institute" with the Banjara Hills police for negligence regarding the medical condition of a horse despite repeated warnings. The animal died a few days later and was buried in the yard of the institute. The institute is being run on a 710-sq yard an open plot, without seeking a performing animal rule registration. They own six horses, including a pony, out of which, one horse named Badal had an injury on his left front leg, while another, Marina was weak and in ill-health. Zaim, a 12- year-old horse, was suffering from a skin allergy. Due to the negligence of the previous lease holder Shabaz Syed, a horse called Sonu, aged five, had died. In the third week of January, another horse, Stalin, died due to lack of medical care. This indicates ill-treatment and starvation. The space for the horses was also found to be insufficient. The horses were being fed with channa, straw, and sometimes carrots and jaggery. A case has been filed under section 11 (1) of the Prevention of cruelty to Animals act, 1960; and IPC 429.
PFA saves buffalo from being prodded with spears and battered in 'festival' February 7, 2017: Upon a complaint lodged by a volunteer, PFA Hyderabad saved a buffalo from being battered to death as part of 'peddamma panduga', held in Muttireddypalli, Nagarkarnool district. PFA team lodged a complaint with the Nagarkarnool collector and Mandal Revenue Officer, pleading that the ritual be stopped from taking place on Saturday, 4 February. The villagers, upon being tipped off, hid the buffalo in an abandoned house. After a 24 hour search, the animal was found, and the cops handed it over to the animal husbandry department. A police unit is camping in the village to ensure no animal is tortured during the festival.
PFA Hyderabad files a case on GHMC contract workers 07 February 2017: PFA Hyderabad filed a case on GHMC contract workers who killed a dog in a cruel manner at Gachibowli. Rescue of cobras on Nag Panchami July 29, 2017: On the occasion of Nagapanchami festival, PFA Hyderabad, in coordination with GHSPCA volunteers, rescued 9 cobra snakes from illegal snake charmers across the city. NOTEWORTHY RESCUES On May 19, 2017, PFA Hyderabad started both day and night rescue service to meet the increasing demand. We have started a new rescue home at Medchal and have hired a paravet team to decentralize the treatment whenever possible.
We need your support to help all the animals in need. Please donate towards the cause and be an angel for the animals! Bajrangi s Rescue Story Bajrangi was found in a badly injured state, terrified. He was brought to PFA rescue home and soon won us over with his charming antics! He is super mischievous and kept everyone in splits. With lots of love and the healing touch of PFA staff, he soon got better and was released back. Bajrangi at the time of rescue At PFA Rescue Home
Horse rescue at Badangpet Guess who loves being the centre of attention! January 31, 2017: PFA Rescue Team received a call regarding an injured horse at Badangpet. On reaching the spot, we saw that the horse was a whelping mother, with serious maggot wounds on her legs. We administered first aid immediately are bringing over this girl, along with her pony to PFA rescue home tonight for further treatment.
HEARTWARMING RESCUE STORIES Minnie & Macho s Adoption 09 February 2017: Minnie and Macho, of ages 1 month and 2 months, respectively, were rescued from a madaari on 09 February The monkeys were found injured and terribly scared of humans, and were trembling upon a simple gesture of touch. Upon investigation, it was found that they were snatched away from their mother by a madaari and she was killed right in front of their eyes. They were also horribly abused by the man and had scars and burn injuries on their mouth and tails. When we rescued them, they clung on to us and wouldn t let go, probably sensing that they were finally safe. But they were still under trauma and needed lots of love and attention. We got them treated and placed them under the care of our valued foster carers. Under foster care, Minnie would happily play and explore the place while Macho, the elder one, would still remain aloof and scared, owing to the horrendous abuse that they had been through.
After 2 months of receiving nutritious food, medication and rehabilitation, they were finally ready to be released. After thorough investigation of potential places for safe release, we decided upon Kulanpak jain temple at Yadadri district, Telangana, where there was a troop of monkeys present, and the availability of food and water was ensured. We were hoping that a female monkey from the troop would adopt these two. On the 7th of April, we took them to Kulanpak jain temple, and slowly led them out of their cages. They were very happy to be in their natural habitat started exploring the place. They swung on the trees and jumped around, but were hesitant to go near the other monkeys. Around the time of the sunset, a female monkey from the troop approached them gently, and Macho jumped into her lap! We were pleasantly surprised at the incident, and were elated that what we were hoping for had been accomplished. This is a very happy rescue story, and we are pleased that the babies are now leading a happy and fearless life in their natural habitat, under the care of a foster mother who took them under her wing with love. If you like what we're doing, please help us continue our service to the voiceless by making a donation. Any contribution, big or small, would help us take up more rescues, more cruelty
cases, which would make a huge difference to the lives of numerous animals, and ease their suffering. George s Rebirth Hi, I m George. I m a 1 year old Rottweiler. Once upon a time I was someone s pet. I had a family and a good life, and I was happy. But one sad day, I was stolen from my home. I was kidnapped by some hut dwellers who wanted to sell me to breeders for a good price. They had no clue about how to care for a dog or what to feed him. I was scared, hungry and devastated. I tried to run away from the place but the kidnappers brought me back and punished me. I barked continuously, trying to tell them my agony but they just chained me up under a tree in the hot sun. And I was not alone. There were other stolen dogs in the huts and they were all kept in a deplorable state, many with their snouts tied to keep them from fighting back. For someone used to eating a variety of foods, I couldn t bring myself to eat the plain rice that was being thrown in front of me once a day. I would remember my mom who used to pamper me and cajole me to finish my meal when I got fussy about food, and I cried my heart out. I was growing weak by the day and was reduced to skin and bones. Eventually, I learnt to lap up the tasteless food out of unbearable hunger. The only thing that kept me going was the hope of being reunited with my family. But my days of agony had soon come to an end as I was finally rescued! The organization People for Animals had come to know of this atrocity and immediately came forward to rescue me and my friends who were held captive in the huts. They took us all to a rescue home where we were rehabilitated. I was happy to finally receive good food and care but still missed being at home with my family. The caretakers at the rescue home understood my pain and started looking for a good home for all of us. One miraculous day, PFA received a call from Minal, who wanted to see the rescued dogs, and possibly adopt one. When I met Minal, both of us felt an instant connection. I took to Minal instantly and completely floored her with my charms. She was more than happy to take me home and team PFA bid me a happy adieu.
Today, I am healthy, happy and absolutely love my new family. I am a big foodie and let out impatient growls when Minal prepares my yummy meals. I also found a companion in Minal s pet shepherd Mollie, who lets me play with her toys. Minal gave me a new lease of life by taking me under her wing. There are many more rescued dogs like me who are waiting for a good home. Will you be their guardian angel? Always adopt a rescued animal, never buy a pet from a store. #AdoptDontShop George with Minal UPDATES FROM THE RESCUE HOME Republic Day celebrations at PFA rescue home!

We re Hiring! Hello all, we're looking for dynamic candidates who love animals as much as we do! We have the following full time vacancies as of now: 1. Communications Officer 2. Full time Veterinarian Please send over your resume to specifying the following details: Contact information Objective Expected CTC Elaborate work experience in the animal welfare/rights field Key skills/area of expertise Computer skills Academic background Personal strengths, and other relevant information You can contact us at in case of any queries. Dear Supporters, DONATION APPEAL Due to an increase in demand, PFA Hyderabad has taken up both day and night rescues of numerous injured and sick animals across the city of Hyderabad. We have chalked out a threeway approach to tackle this challenging task of covering rescues throughout the city. 1. Presently, we have a 400 sq yard rescue home at Afzalgunj, where we are housing around 40 animals. Only the animals that require critical care would be kept here. 2. We are to start a new rescue home at Medchal to shift the animals that need care for a prolonged period of time. 3. We have hired a team of para-veterinarians who are trained to provide decentralized treatment at the spot, for cases of minor injuries/infections. But the costs to sustain and maintain both the rescue homes, as well as those required to fight for animal rights, are high and we depend only on your donations to rescue, feed, provide necessary veterinary care and fight for the voiceless. Even a monthly donation of Rs from your end on a regular basis would make a huge difference to the lives of numerous animals, and would help us take up more rescues, more cruelty cases and would ease the suffering of lot more animals.
