In this case, the following statement must appear in the ad: Dog wholly owned and residing in {Name of Country} - {Name of Clearance} Certification not customary or available. Health Clearances: Advertisements that feature breeding or litter announcements, dogs for sale, or dogs at stud must include hip clearances of pertinent dogs (GDC, OFA, PENNhip, or foreign registry only) and current eye clearances of pertinent dogs (GDC, CERF, or foreign registry ONLY) no more than two calendar years old. No such advertisements are accepted for dogs who are under two years of age. Camera-ready ads: Originals must be dark black type and white paper, set up at published dimensions for ad size purchased, and must be ready to print with the exception of photos. Electronic ad copy is preferred. Scannable hard copy is acceptable. Faxed ads will not be accepted. Digital photos: Send at original size if possible. Photos with dimensions of only 1-2 inc hes will not reproduc e well. Scanning photos: Photos should be scanned at 300 dpi or higher, and at 100% of size (in inches) or as close as possible. Scanned photos may be supplied by or disk. When ing photos send in color. There will be no refunds for ads with poor image quality caused by submission of scanned photos. Free Critique Photo: One photo of excellent rated dogs will be published free of charge for UBSDA members with the critiques for events held in the same weekend/cluster of shows. List date and show. PHOTO RETURN For photo return you must include a correctly sized self-addressed stamped envelope. For show photos you can elect to have it returned in the original show photo container but you must include an appropriate number of stamps and a new mailing label. Do not send cash for postage. Website: Please take time to read over these websites so that you are prepared when and if you see a BSD in need of rescue. There is a wealth of information about BSD s in general on them as well as a realistic picture of what is going on in rescue of our Belgian shepherd dogs. Guidelines: 1. UBSDA rescue seeks to assist in rescue of purebred Belgian Shepherd Dogs of all varieties. We cannot use the club's funds to help mixed breed dogs, although very often individuals within the clubs will go out of their way to network for such dogs or help privately. 2. UBSDA rescue can assist with paying pull fees and some transport costs if needed as dogs are moved from a pound/shelter. We cannot be responsible for dogs from known breeders except in very rare cases -- we don't do rehomes; again, however, many individuals may individually be willing to network for such dogs privately. 3. UBSDA rescue is unique in that we consider all varieties equally. Of course individual foster homes and volunteers may have variety preferences because of experience or contacts and these are respected. AKC Belgian rescue groups are very specific about which variety they can assist but they are also larger so are the organizations of final disposition in most cases. UBSDA does not officially foster or adopt dogs. 4. UBSDA's budget for rescue is extremely limited when considering our relative number of members and the fact that it must extend to cover all 4 varieties. Because of this we will work closely with other rescues to make the best use of our money and volunteers. Funds are available through private requests for special medical costs, pull fees and transport assistance. 5. The greatest need cited by all rescuers helping Belgian shepherd dogs of all varieties now is for hands on assistance through transport, identification, short or long term fostering, referrals, education and networking. Please contact the appropriate variety contact for the dogs you will work with or contact me for more information on these or to be put to work. Volunteering to help does not obligate you to be "on call". The more volunteers who are available and trained and in contact with each other the more moral support we all will have and the more quickly we will be able to save dogs in need. 4

Conformation Judges Coordination Committee - Laura P. is trying to contact Tony V. regarding this matter. Susan G-M mentioned that a lot of information that was mentioned at the Annual meeting was not in the information that Laura sent us. Susan G-M will make sure all the information is appropriate and get it to the Committee and Tony V UBSDA National at Gateway - Susan G-M is going to round up a 2015 National Team Colleen Cashman has agreed to be secretary. She may have someone interested in being chairperson. Becky B. asked if there was a regional club in the area of the St. Louis area that would be interested in taking on a regional. Laura P. mentioned that any club could do a regional. Susan G-M mentioned that sweeps and non-regular could be done on Friday, Saturday do the National, and maybe Sunday be part of the regular UKC show. Melanie R. mentioned that she is still waiting to hear from UKC as to what days we are able to do the National. Melanie R. will follow up as soon as possible. New Business Premier Becky B. took care of the paperwork for the Premier. Becky B. will be the Chairperson and Susan G-M will be the secretary. 4 Seasons Belgian Club is working with the UKC to get a foreign judge for the specialty on (Wednesday). Becky B. will confirm. Susan G-M mentioned UBSDA handling the Sweepstakes in conjunction with the specialty on Wednesday. New judges can get opportunity to scribe. Laura is going to contact Randie Meyer to see if she is interested in the position National Show chair & secretary is needed. Kim G. is going to check with Purina Farms to find out the exact dates of the National. A motion was made by Lisa K. to donate $50.00 to the Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital, FL. for the huge part they played in finding the breeder & owner of the Belgian Tervuren that was found killed on the road. Laura P. suggested a possible membership drive using the ABTC, ABMC, BSCA & AKC membership lists to send out information about UBSDA. 8 Stella Moore Performance News Editor Merlot Koko ART BELL - UTAH We went to the Wasatch Working Aussies Trial in Farmington, UT. on 1/31/15 and 2/1/15. My Malinois, Merlot, earned two terrific scores to finish her ASCA CD with High in Trial. Then this past weekend (2/28 and 3/1) we attended the Gone Dogs trials also in Farmington. Merlot finished her UKC CD again with really great scores and HIT. She got two legs toward her URO1. The last was a perfect 100 to go HIT. Her name is now: UCD Klaar Merveilleux Merlot RN, CKC CD, ASCA CD. At this same trial, Koko, Malinois, finished his UCDX with three very nice scores and went HIT. He also earned two legs toward his URO2. Both were very high scores. Koko is now: UCDX URO1 Klaar Kharismatik Kokopelli CD, RA, CKC CD, CKC RN, ASCA RN SHARRII HUNT - NORTH CAROLINA This past weekend Alison Bentley and I took our dogs to the Knoxville Barn Hunt Association event held in Evenville TN February 27th - March 1st. This was to be the puppies first trial. Our group included 3 GSD puppies 7 1/2 months old, their mother, Myrddin, Dyna - Belgian Laekenois, And two Labs, Tali and Liddie. Nalin, Bryg and Kellan are known as Myrddin's Minions by those who train with us; took the Barn Hunt exhibitors by surprise. All earned their RATI and two legs of Novice on 27th under Judge Sharon Webb. Top scoring large dogs were Nalin, Bryg and Kellan with one of the pups taking HIT. Day two: Bryg, Nalin and Kellan earned their Novice title (RATN ) moving up to Open. Both Bryg and Kellan earned a leg in open, but I messed up Nalin by not listening to her and called a litter tube. Kellan took HIT with Bryg taking Open HIT in the 2nd trial. March 1st: Trial 1 - Kellan and Bryg earned their 2nd leg in Open with Nalin earning her 1st leg.. Bryg got High in trial. Trial 2: Kellan and Bryg earned their Open title and are now in Senior. Nalin earned her 2nd Open leg with 1st pl and high in Trial. The adult dogs are all at the Master level. Myrddin has earned her Master and is working on her Champion as is Liddie. Tali is still working on his Master title. Dyna had 3 Master qualifying runs for the weekend and needs 2 more legs for the title. She loves all the climbs and tunnels so much that I think she drags her rat alerts out so she can play more. I have noticed that she marks their location and then will return to alert on the rat when I ask "where is your rat". We all had a wonderful time. Dyna is currently the # 1 Laekenois in this sport and only two qualifying 8

9 scores to get her Master Rat title RATM. She recently got her three qualifying scores under Judge Sharon Webb at the Knoxville Barn Hunt held in Evensville TN the weekend of Feb 27 - March Dyna GLENNA LOGAN - MICHIGAN My Groenendael, "Will" (PT5 SC AN CA UWPS PD1 UWPCHX P1 BAYEUX DU CHAMP BOULET CGC HIC TDI TT T1 FCT JMD BH FR1-LEVEL1 TD) went to the K9 Fanciers nosework trials on January 31 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He passed his Pre-Trial 4 (PT4) and Pre-Trial 5 (PT5) and earned his first Master Container leg. Will earned his first Superior Exterior leg on Sunday, March 8, at the K9 Fanciers Nosework trial in Mason, MI. Will is searching for a scented 'hide'. 10 Dyna and I were invited to the AKC AGILITY INVITATIONAL! Photos.. Left to right - Agility AKC/Eukanuba 2014,Dyna taking a jump, Dyna with some of her awards she earned in a weekend. Dyna(Belgian Laekenois) and I made the list for the 2014 AKC/ EUKANUBA Agility Invitational held in Orlando Florida Dec 12-14, This has been a long (really long) term goal for us, and as she is closing in on 11 years old, I was starting to think the goal wasn't realistic as we were spending only 3 or 4 weekends a year doing agility. Not Dyna's fault - all handler error you might say. I found the Belgians and especially the Laekenois are so multi venue talented that I was like a kid in a candy store, trying different venues in agility, Rally, Obedience, therapy dog work, attending the MTB (Meet the Breed) events in the East. Then a couple of years ago, we were introduced to HERD- ING, which branched off to Tending. In 2014, we started tracking, and scent work, then found Barn Hunt. Just too many great venues that she excels at and not enough money or time for us to participate in them all. Anyway, the American Belgian Laekenois Association - AKC Parent Club for the Belgian Laekenois needed us to go to the AKC/Eukanuba MTB event. Why not? Combine two events we both really enjoy. - Agility and telling the public and it turns out AKC officials about the Belgian Laekenois. What a truly awesome way to spend a weekend! Friday the 12th, after setting up our booth, Dyna and I went to T2B - kind of a warm up for the rest of the weekend. While, we didn't Q, we did some great things out there and a few not so great things. Dyna decided to take the jump after the A Frame from the apex of the Frame instead of making her contact, which she didn't quite make. (must be that extra 2 lbs she has packed on), took the jump with a bounce, then executed a 90 degree turn to the next jump, only to have her rear foot slip in a hole between the two mats, and over extended her hind leg, taking a tumble. Getting up amid multiple "OMG"s, she was off taking the jumps in the right order. She did knock a bar, which is not like her and concerned me resulting in a trip to the massage therapist at the site. I decided by Friday evening, I would pull her from the agility if the courses didn't flow right, or if she was still sore by run time on Saturday, or if our runs conflicted with our MTB booth time. Friend and fellow Laekenois owners, Craig and Sharlene Kossuth came by with Tommy to sit while Dyna and I ran the jumpers. When our time came to go to the agility ring, and several of the public followed to watch Dyna run. Sunday our first run was like 7 am, the next around 11 am. Put a sign on the booth to come to the agility ring and off we went. While in each of our weekend runs, there was a bauble giving us an NQ, we did experience the thrill of reaching a goal. Our (well my) goal was to get the invite to the Event - not to win it. I think we more than achieved the goal - the goal was the journey of discovery for ourselves. Enjoying the one on one time with a wonderful fur-buddy. We did finish 77th over all, which I don't think was all that bad and a whole bunch of unknowing public and agility handlers got to see a Laekenois in action. I still get comments - "with a better handler, she would be a world class agility dog" "Have you thought of letting someone else run her, she's too fast for you?", "Too bad you didn't teach her contacts right". And the ones I really like "Damn she's fast!" "How do you keep her so calm outside the ring and she comes alive inside when she runs?" My absolute favorite - "Where do I find more about this breed?" Thinking back, I would not give up a step in our journey to love and trust. Her special song - "I Will Survive". She survived a handler who didn't know what a contact was for the 1st year we did agility. Who still cannot do a front cross without tripping over my own feet, who guides her from the rear all the time. A handler who got ll caught up in the 10

11 naire? You can take her from high drive, high speed to being able to greet infants and the infirm within seconds. She can just come off the agility field and lay next to an autistic child willing to read to her, or a mental patient who just needs to feel the security of a curly coat sliding through his/her fingers, or on this particular weekend - get back up on the table and let strangers, and judges run their hands over her. She holds titles in several dog sports, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Therapy, Herding, and was the first of her breed to get Barn Hunt titles. Most important lesson I have learned from my life with Dyna - Don't let others set limits for you or your dog. You will miss out on some wonderful learning experiences. I would like to thank a special friend - someone who has believed in Dyna and myself all these years - someone that I have come to respect and love - Thank you Stella Moore and Echo for believing in our journey. Without your encouragement - I might not have stepped outside of the "box" and tried so many different experiences with this wonderful Laekenois. A handler who had to l learn, it's not about the winning or even qualifying. It's about the journey with your best friend. The quality time spent doing what we love to do - agility. A "World Class" competitor asked me last year what my "plan" was when Dyna and I got out on the course. Looking him straight in the eye - I told him I memorized the course prior by several walk throughs, I tell Dyna I love her and this is just our time for fun and games, I release my dog and run like the devil is after me until we hit the finish line. Then I party with my buddy telling her how awesome she is and how special she makes me feel. If we qualify - great, but that is not the end all of the experience. It's that moment in time that we share a mutual enjoyable experience. I have been told, I am throwing away my money by trialing when I don't really care if I win or lose.. Who loses? My "training" plan is a win win for the event, my dog and myself. You can't get the same feeling, the same "up" at a training practice, or match.
