WD/WRD/WRDX Tests September 16, 2017 WD/WRD Test - September 17, 2017 Beltzville State Park Lehighton, Pennsylvania Judges: Cherrie Brown, Vacaville, CA Lanelle Warrick, Buckley, WA Entries accepted by USPS mail only to be postmarked for NCA members no earlier than July 28th, 2017 for Non-NCA members no earlier than August 7, 2017 Entries close at 5 PM on September 1, 2017 (or when entries are filled) after which time entries cannot be accepted, cancelled, altered, or substituted. Entries will be limited to 22 dogs for the Saturday WRDX, WD & WRD tests, with 5 guaranteed slots for untitled WRDX entrants. If all 5 slots are not filled with WRDX entries, the unused slots may be used for WD and WRD entries. Entries of other breeds will be accepted for Saturday s test if the test is not full with Newfoundlands. Entries will be limited to 25 dogs for the Sunday WD & WRD test. (No entry of other breeds on Sunday) An alternate list will be kept. All entries will be acknowledged at least 10 days prior to the test. Permission to hold these water tests has been granted by the Working Dog Committee of the Newfoundland Club of America.

2 The NCA Water Test The NCA Water Tests are a series of exercises designed to develop and demonstrate the abilities of the purebred Newfoundland Dogs in an aquatic environment. The Newfoundland has historically functioned as a working companion to its owner, and members of the breed have participated in many heroic rescues. Performance of these exercises is intended as a demonstration of skills developed through both natural ability and training rather than a competition between dogs or handlers. The emphasis in the Water Tests is on teamwork between dog and handler in realistic work and rescue situations. Efficiency in accomplishment of tasks is essential; however, it is also desirable that the dog evidence willingness and enjoyment of his work in a combination of controlled teamwork with his handler and natural independence. Rescue Abandoned Boat Multiple Person Rescue Unconscious Victim Capsized Raft Line to Shore Hidden Victims WRDX WRDX Fitness Certification Not Required Though a fitness certification is no longer required, it is a handler's responsibility to prepare and condition his or her dog physically for the extreme distance and time required to complete these exercises. It is the judges' responsibility to terminate any exercise at any time a dog is deemed to be in distress or appears to be experiencing difficulty in completing any of the exercises. The exercise will be stopped immediately and the dog will be excused from further testing. Bitches in Season Bitches in season will not be allowed on the test site until just prior to being judged, which will be after ALL judging has been completed. As a courtesy, please inform the Test Secretary prior to September 15th, if your bitch will be in season.

5 General Information Entries are limited to 22 dogs on Saturday and 25 dogs on Sunday. A list of alternates will be kept in the order received. Entries for requalification will be accepted only if the entry limit is not filled. The method for determining alternates and entry refund procedure is specified in Chapter I, Section 12 of the Water Test Rules.The test site will be available for informal practice on Friday, September 15 th from 11am to 3 pm. ****Parking - The park is requiring that car passes be issued and displayed in the window of vehicles parked along the tree line above the test site. Passes will be issued to entrants, committee and stewards. These passes will be issued by the Secretary on test days and by a committee member and /or the park office on Friday. Spectators without dogs will be required to park in the lots. Please be sure to get your pass immediately upon arrival to the site. Post entries : Dogs that sucessfully complete the requirements for Water Dog at the test may be post entered into the Senior Division and will be tested at the conclusion of Senior Division judging. Dogs will test in the Senior Division until they fail an exercise. Post enter at the Secretary s table at the conclusion of the Junior Division. Post entry fee is $ A new standard NCA entry form is attached. Please use a separate entry form for each test day that you are entering. In accordance with NCA s updated regulations, please indicate NCA membership of all co-owners or the handler on the entry form. No unentered dogs will be allowed near the test site during the test. Bitches in season will not be allowed on the test site until just prior to being judged which will be after the Junior or Senior Divisions are completed. A separate beach area will be available for bitches in season. Each exhibitor is responsible for knowledge of the latest NCA Water Test Rules and Regulations governing a Water Test. Exhibitors and attendees are responsible for reading and adhering to the Pennsylvania State Recreation Area Rules and Regulations included in this premium list. Please clean up after your dog so we may return to this test site. Changes in Basic Control Requirements since 2015: All entrants in the WD division (including those having an AKC CD title) are required to perform individual basic control exercises prior to being tested. Please review these requirements in the Water Test Regulations at NCA Policy on Dog Aggression *Please police dogs carefully Any dog that in the opinion of the Event Committee, attacks a person or a dog at an NCA working event, resulting in an injury, and is believed by that Event Committee to present a hazard to persons or other dogs, shall be disqualified. When the Event Committee pursuant to this section disqualifies the dog, a report shall be filed with The NCA Board. The disqualified dog may not again compete at any NCA working event, nor be on the grounds of an NCA working event unless and until, following application for reinstatement by the owner to the NCA Board, the owner receives official notification in writing from the NCA Board that the dog s eligibility has been reinstated.

I (we) agree that the club holding this event has the right to refuse this entry for cause which the club shall deem to be sufficient. In consideration of the acceptance of this entry and of the holding of this event and of the opportunity to have the dog judged and to win prize money, ribbons or trophies, I (we) agree to hold this club, its members, directors, governors, officers, agents, superintendents, or test secretary and the owner or lessor of the premises or grounds and the employees of the aforementioned parties, harmless from any claim for loss or injury which may be alleged to have been cause directly or indirectly to any person or thing by the act of this dog while in or upon the test premises or grounds or near any entrance therto, and I (we) personally assume all responsibility and liability for such claim; and I (we) further agree to hold the aforementioned parties harmless from any claim or loss of the dog by disappearance, theft, damage or injury, be caused or alleged to be caused by the negligence of the club or any of the parties aforementioned, or by the negligence of any other person or any other causes. 10 Pennsylvania State Recreation Area Rules and Regulations a. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted except in special instances where lands are leased for the development and operation of public services and accommodations. b. Consider other state park users. Boisterous, immoral, or indecent conduct will not be tolerated. c. Trash, garbage, and all other litter shall be placed in containers provided for this purpose, and shall be limited to litter accumulated during use of state recreation areas. d. Do not remove, molest, injure, or damage anything natural or physical within any state recreation area. e. Open fires and the disposal of hot coals from charcoal grills are permitted only in facilities provided. f. The soliciting for any purpose or posing of signs is not permitted. The distribution, sales, servicing, or rental of any supplier, equipment, material, or commodity is restricted to authorized concessions. g. Licensed vehicle operators shall obey posted speed limits, and shall use only roads and parking areas open to public traffic unless otherwise designated by the park manager. The operation of nonlicensed motor vehicles shall not be permitted on state recreation area roads, trails, and areas unless otherwise designated. Excessive noise, nuisance, reckless, or negligent operation shall be prohibited. Commercial traffic is allowed on state recreation area roads only when authorized by the Department. h. Horseback riding is permitted on the right (side) berm of roads open to public vehicles and designated trails and areas. This activity is not permitted on camping or cabin area roads, bicycle, or hiking trails, picnic, swimming, or cooking areas. i. Use or discharge of any type of airgun, slingshot, or explosive is prohibited. j. Firearms and archery equipment may be uncased and ready for use by properly licensed hunters only in authorized hunting areas and during those seasons state recreation areas are open to hunting or under special conditions which may be established by the Department. k. Wildlife shall not be hunted, pursued, molested, or intentionally disturbed except that hunting, trapping, and the training of dogs is permitted within authorized hunting areas during the established Pennsylvania Game Commission seasons. Groundhog hunting is prohibited. l. Outdoor recreational activity in state recreation areas shall be restricted to locations where physical improvement or posting designates the appropriate purpose and use. Swimming is only permitted in designated swimming areas. m. Pets are permitted in state recreation areas provided they are on a leash not exceeding six feet in length and attended at all times. Pets are not permitted in swimming or overnight areas. n. The use in any state recreation area of an electric generator causing unreasonable or excessive noise and use of any chainsaw is prohibited without a permit from the Department. o. Unorganized or organized instruction, exhibition, competition, demonstration, or special events first require written application and approval from the Department before such event may be conducted. p. 12 Directions to the Test Site The site is five miles East of Lehighton, Just off of US 209. From the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike take Exit 74 (Mahoning Valley). Follow signs to the park. Local Directions: Keep left after exiting the toll booth and get on the ramp to Rt 209 South, at the bottom of the ramp keep left and turn onto Rt 209 North and continue for a very short distance. Make the first left onto Harrity Rd. Make the first Right onto Big Creek Dr, which becomes Pohopoco Dr. Follow Pohopoco a short distance (approx 4.5 miles) to the main entrance for Beltzville State Park on the right. From Route 209 South, turn right onto Route 534 and then left onto Beltzville Drive. Follow to Beltzville State Park on the left. About the Test Site The 2,972-acre Beltzville State Park is developed around the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project, Beltzville Dam. Beltzville Lake is 949 acres with a shoreline of 19.9 miles. The park is located along the Pohopoco Creek with recreation areas around the lake. The lake is stocked with warm and coldwater game fish. Most types of recreational boats are permitted on the lake. Maximum boating speed is 45 MPH. The water test will be held adjacent to the 525 ft. sand beach. The testing area has a gradual drop off and dogs should be swimming within 20 ft of the shore.
