Mrs. Turner By: Nadia Bell Hi, my name is Nadia Bell and I interviewed Mrs. Turner. N: What is your favorite color? MT: Well, pink. N: What is your birthday? MT: February 25. N: What is your favorite animal? MT: A dolphin. N: That s cool. Now, what s your favorite candy? MT: Reeses N: I like those too. N: What s your favorite sports team? MT: The Tigers. They re awesome! N: I like that team too! That is how it went when I interviewed Mrs. Turner. Interview of Isabella Hernandez By: Alyssa Gilleran 2 nd grade Mrs. Miles I= Interviewer P= Person interviewed P: Oh, this is so easy, purplicious! I: You really do love purple! P: Yep! Fordline s Finest Mrs. Pajor By: Hannah, Kyle, Madeline, Taylor, Caleb FF: What time do you get to school? MP: Around 7:50 FF: What do you like about your job? MP: I like working with the students and the staff. FF: What part of your job do you do first? MP: We make sure that all the file cabinets are open, make sure computers are on, see who is absent and use the phone and computer to check absences too. FF: How long have you been doing this? MP: 20 years FF: What is the hardest part of your job? MP: Getting everything done at once. FF: What do you do last? MP: Usually, I finish up on the computer and lock up everything like the cabinets and office. FF: What time do you leave? MP: Anywhere between 3:45 and 4:00pm. Sometimes later. Comment: MP: I am glad to see the newspaper is back and it s interesting and educational. I: What is your favorite color? P: Purple I: Why? P= I love that color and it makes me very happy even when I am mad. I: Wow. Anyway, what is your favorite book?

By Bella Plonka PIGS Male pigs of any age are called boars. Female pigs are called sows. Pigs have sharp tusks that help them dig and fight. Sows give birth to a litter of young called piglets.

Pigs are found and raised all over the world. Pigs have a great sense of smell. The pig uses the snout to search. The pigs distant cousin is the hippopotamus.

Giant pandas are mostly found in Asia. They can be found in zoos in North America, Europe and Australia.

2 By Bella Plonka PIGS Male pigs of any age are called boars. Female pigs are called sows. Pigs have sharp tusks that help them dig and fight. Sows give birth to a litter of young called piglets. Piglets weight about 2.5 pounds. Pigs have poor eyesight. China has one of the worlds largest populations of domestic pigs. Pigs are also known as hogs or swine. Pigs are found and raised all over the world. Pigs have a great sense of smell. The pig uses the snout to search. The pigs distant cousin is the hippopotamus. (*edited to add) It was once thought that hippos were distant cousins to the pig but now it appears that hippos are actually not related closely to pigs but they are distant cousins to the whale. Giant pandas are mostly found in Asia. They can be found in zoos in North America, Europe and Australia. (Edited to add: In 1988 the Toledo Zoo had two giant pandas on display that were on loan from a zoo in China.) Animals - Toucan By: Paige The legs of the toucan are strong and rather short. Their toes are arranged in pairs with the first and fourth toe turned backwards. The feathers in the genus containing the largest toucans are food for feeding their chicks. The toucans have mostly green plumage with blue markings. Their bodies are short and of comparable size to a crow s. The neck is short and thick. The wings are small as they are forest dwelling birds who only need to travel short distances and are often of about the same span as the bill tip to tail tip measurements of the bird. The colorful and large bill, which in some large species, measures more than half the length of the body and is the hallmark of the toucans. The sows nurse their piglets for thee to five weeks. The giant pandas measure about four to six feet. Their tail is about 13cm. An average adult weighs between 220 and 250 pounds. Their paw has a thumb and five fingers. They make their nests in tree hollows and holes excavated by other animals such as woodpeckers. The toucan bill has very limited use as an excavation tool. Toucans are members of the family Ramphastidae or near passerine birds from the neotropics. They are brightly marked and have large, often colorful bills. The name of this bird group is derived from the Tupi word tukana via Portuguese. Giant pandas are individual animals. They communicate by vocalization. They can climb and take shelter on hollow trees and rock crevices. Tiger Sharks By: Matthew Lynn 2nd Grade GIANT PANDAS By: Samantha Bouchard 4th grade Pandas are omnivores because they eat plants and animals. They like to eat bamboo. It has a large, round head that is an adaptation that makes them good at eating bamboo. Tiger sharks teeth are up to five inches long. They can be the size of a small bus weighing up to 1,900 pounds and being 20 to 25 feet long. They live in the ocean. They eat sea turtles, seals, birds, squid and have gained a reputation as maneaters. This doesn t mean they eat humans but if

they bite one, they might not swim away like the Great White shark often does. Tiger sharks have very sharp teeth. Sharks are found in Southern California.

Polar bears have thick fur so if they fight with each other, they will not get many cuts. Waiting for Summer By: Lily Lawson With all the snow we ve been getting, I started thinking. Summer is my favorite time of the year. This year the first day of summer is June 21. I like summer because the days are longer, I have no homework and the ice cream man comes every day! My favorite summer activities are swimming, rollerblading, riding my bike, going up North, and playing with friends. I can t wait until summer, how about you? Things you will need: Blender (adult supervision) Strawberries Bananas Ice cubes Any kind of yogurt (strawberry or banana) V8 Fusion (strawberry-banana) Step 2 Set up your blender This feature will give ideas and tips on how to maintain a healthy mind and body. Step 3 If you chose to use ice cubes, put them in. Step 4 Blend ice cubes until crushed. Step 5 Cut up your strawberries and bananas Step 6 Put all ingredients in the blender and blend together. Healthy Kids Anysia Correa 2 nd Grade If you want to be a healthy kid, be active, play tag and you can ride your bike. To be a healthy kid, you can eat vegetables and fruits like celery, strawberries and other healthy foods too! By: Caitlyn Wetherbee 5 th Grade Life is hard sometimes, especially if someone died in your family. Has anyone died in your family? It s hard when that time comes. You just feel sad. The best advice is to think of your happy times. That time has come to me before. Yes, I did feel sad, but I took my own advice. I just though of all the good times I had with that person. Soon, I forgot all about it. It s not just family that dies, but animals die too. Just take the same advice. If you need any other advice about life or anything, write me. Bullying- all kinds Gossip picking Rumors fighting Cheating hurting CHEWY BROWNIE COOKIES Madeline Peters 5 th grade 1 ½ cups firmly packed light brown sugar 2/3 cup Crisco stick or 2/3 cup all vegetable shortening 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 eggs 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa ¼ teaspoon baking soda 2 cups (12 ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate chips

5 1) Heat oven to 375 degrees. Place sheets of foil on countertop for cooling cookies 2) Combine brown sugar, shortening, water and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat eggs into creamed mixture. 3) Combine flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips 4) Drop rounded measuring tablespoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto an un-greased baking sheet. 5) Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375 for seven to nine minutes or until cookies are set. Do NOT over-bake. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to foil to completely cool. If you are looking for a yummy treat, this is what you will want! This is a story written by a second grade student named Max from Lindemann Elementary in Allen Park. The Farmer Once upon a time there was a farmer who as very busy. He could not take a break. Because he was too busy, he would still be working at night. One night he thought about selling his farm animals. He sold them and it worked. He wasn t as tired and didn t work as much. Then he was lonely. He thought I shouldn t have sold my farm animals. So, he went to the houses that he sold them to and bought them all back.
