1 The Elementary School faculty has selected the following titles as recommended summer reading. Please see the Summer Reading Letter for more information about Summer Reading. Adler, David A. Happy Thanksgiving Rebus This story within a story is enriched by rebus pictures and detailed illustrations. The story of the first Thanksgiving helps a modern boy learn the real meaning of sharing. Aker, Suzanne. What Comes in 2's, 3's, and 4's A counting book which also touches upon primary colors and shapes. Asch, Frank. Last Puppy The last born of nine puppies worries that he will be the last chosen as a pet for a new owner. Asch, Frank. Yellow, Yellow A little boy finds a very versatile bright yellow hat. Baker, Alan. Black and White Rabbit's ABC The story of a rabbit's exhausting efforts to paint a picture presents the letters of the alphabet. Baker, Alan. Gray Rabbit's 1,2,3 Gray Rabbit finds some clay and makes different kinds of animals, from one wiggly worm to ten scurrying mice. Baker, Alan. White Rabbit's Color Book White Rabbit hops from one paint pot to another, changing colors as he goes, until he ends up brown. Baker, Keith. Who Is the Beast As a tiger makes his way through the jungle, other animals flee at the sight of the "beast" when he peers into a river, he sees no creature but himself. Could he be the beast? Frederick While the other mice gather food for the winter, Frederick the poet prepares for the long days ahead in another way. Lionni, Leo. Inch by Inch Inch-worm protects itself by offering to measure its enemies. This plan works well until nightingale wants its song measured. Lionni, Leo.
