Other play items identified by participants We recently moved to the area after living near Kadidjiny in Melville and loved to use that park for family activities, picnics, the playground and for walking our dog. We would love to see something similar in this area. We are 100% in favour of your plan to change the basket ball court into a playground and would love it if the path around the park could also be maintained. It s really uneven in places and difficult to walk a pram across. Until now, I think it feels to residents in the area as if the parks have been neglected (in comparison to Melville and Myaree). The area at Carrington Park would be fantastic if it had some other facilities for families to utilise. A sitting area, maybe with a BBQ or water facility would be great and would certainly get lots of use from families in the area. Thank you for focusing on this and we are really excited to see how the park can be transformed. Female, 25 34, children in 0 5 age range Water play, a BBQ and eating area. Please don't put in fitness equipment, keep the focus for children (various ages) and families. Female, 35 44, children in 0 5 age range - gated park to stop dogs coming in - Sun shade is very very important - little pathway through and around the play equipment for scooters - slide with no bumps at every joint (just dont' make it too steep). - lots of stairs that everyone can climb up, not just the big kids. - no fence gaps up in the play equipment so small kids don't fall down. - monkey bars for larger kids to improve their upper body strength - climbing equipment Female, 35 44, children in 0 5 age range
Fully fenced area for dogs. Currently in this part of Palmyra there are no fully fenced dog parks suitable for small dogs. Female, 35-44 BBQ facilities would add another dynamic with a nature playground. I'm very supportive of the idea surrounding an upgraded central park. But there is a massive safety issue with the access onto Leach Hwy. My dog has run onto the middle of the road a few yrs back, it's a scary moment. I know have three young children - 6,4 and 6 months and whenever we are up at the Basketball ring you can never quite relax because of the safety issue with access to Leach Hwy. Yes, there is a gate, but that isn't a full proof solution, look at the incident rates with pool fencing!! The access onto Leach Hwy is a massive safety issue and why it's even there is beyond imagine. As a concerned parent I believe it's a priority to block access to Leach Hwy so that my family and other families can enjoy to the full, what I think is great concept. Male, 35 44, children in 0-5 and 6-10 age ranges My answer to this question on Woolshed Park Central needs a thorough make over. I suggest placing in BBQ's supplying gas at the north-east end, for more family involvement with a toilet block at the southern end of the park. An outdoor fully equipped multi level fitness exercise equipment.(similar to Cottesloe foreshore) This can be placed on the grass hill and flat area in corporation of the wall so equipment can be installed and used of the wall. A skateboard and roller skates bowl and park with different tricks available. A seating and reading rest area surrounded with natural water saving plants and gardens. I think re-surfacing the basketball court to hot-mix bitumen and placing another basketball ring at the other end with a tennis half court painted lines using the wall as a ball return and practise area. Placing also volleyball court lines on the hot-mix with poles at either end supporting a net. A hot-mix bike and skateboard path around the whole park would be nice. It is very important to leave as much of the grass open area as possible for football, soccer, rugby, running and many other grass related sports. Having pet waste disposable bags available and waste recycle bins for different rubbish. To the locals and families that live in this area, as I, this would be a huge improvement to the park for greater family and pets interaction, more socialising in summer with families and children and the chance for the park to be used in general then laying dormant most of the time. I would be happy to give more evidence and information if requested. Male, 35-44, children in 0-5 age range I understand change is unavoidable, but I sincerely hope that you do not remove the basketball court as it is used daily by many people & the wall used for tennis practise etc. Though my children do not use the slides etc in the other playgrounds anymore, they have in the past & many younger children still do. I sincerely hope we don't go the way of Fremantle pools where in their quest for 'safety' took away the fun ie waterslides & replaced it with not a lot! Female, children in age range 11-15 How about exercise machines like we have in other parts of Melville to create a circuit for young and old. Male, 55-64 I would like you to rebuild a new playground with putting a new plain paths for chiildren who wish to have a comfortable, safe and calm place without getting a happening again Female, 35-44
A zip-line similar to the one at Neil McDougall Park in Manning. Also, it is imperative that the playground has a fence around the perimeter - the Woolshed park all the way from Carrington St to Baal St is used heavily for dog walking/exercise. Having a fence around the playground not only gives peace of mind for parents of small children (keeps children in), but also prevents free-running dogs from a) knocking over children playing in the playground, and b) urinating/defecating in the play area (I have seen this quite regularly in the existing playgrounds, and up against the basketball post) Male, 25-34, children in age range 0-5 Like to see outdoor fitness equipment for myself and for grandchildren equipment for adventure and using their imagination. Female, 55-64, children in age range 6-10 Picnic Tables in shaded areas for parents to watch children and to enjoy the view over the harbour Children in age range 16-21 Shade sails or mature trees planted Continue to maintain wide, level footpaths for scooters and bikes etc Pedestrian crossing for the planned nature play park on McGregor St (up near McKimmie Rd) upgrade to parking, picnic and BBQ facilities at the planned nature park near basketball courts Female, 24-34, children in age range 0-5 A combined enclosed space at Woolshed Central would be great to allow dog walkers to let dogs off lead for run/socialise and a playground plus nature play to entertain kids. Basket ball court/tennis line on wall would be good to retain. If possible it would be great to have a gated playground within the gated larger area (ie just need fence along McGregor to almost entirely enclose, plus gates at cul-desacs if possible) and put gated playground within it somewhere. This would allow separation of small children/families who are not as keen on dogs to use the playground without dogs running through it, and allow the dogs a safe place to run which is enclosed. The fencing of the entire area would encourage more dog owners to utilise this space instead of Palmyra Primary school. Female, 35-44, children in age ranges 0-5 and 6-10 Part of the large central portion could be developed for older children (e.g. skate park, multiple sports court). A large adventure/nature playground similar to Carawatha in Willagee would be great too. Female, 25-34, children in age ranges 0-5 and 6-10 I have walked past it a few times and it looks quite isolated and not used. I would be scared to be in those parks at night due to proximity to leach highway and cemetery if I am honest. Probably needs more bbqs, trees, some fitness equipment. Or nice relaxing spaces with gardens and benches. Female, 35-44 Fitness and an enclosed dog play yard. Unfortunately my dog runs away when not on the lead so it would be lovely to have an enclosed space bigger than my yard at home to throw the ball for her as the Palmyra Primary School is still too open.
