uarterly QAPRIL JUNE 015 zena s New home by Marsha Beattie R attended the Animal Friends Connection fundraiser in Lodi on May. There was a nice turnout of various animal vendors and we were one of the only rescue groups showcased. I am excited to announce that Zena went to her Forever Home this past unday (May 10)! Dan and Rose Loveall-ale are her proud new parents. Marc, Robert and I took a trip to Vacaville on unday to introduce Zena to them. The Lovealls own Morningsun Herb Farm in Vacaville. It is an absolute beautiful place and the perfect fit for Miss Zena. When Zena came to us at the end of March she had her ears down, her head was low and her tail was tucked. he has beautiful brown eyes that were super sad. he lacked confidence and although she was gentle around the other monsters, I mean dogs, we have here she didn t engage. After a couple of days of being with us and our crew she started to hold her ears up, her tail started wagging and she started to play ball. he tried her best to push the limits and was a big time manipulator and if she didn t get her way she would put down her ears and look at you with these huge brown eyes almost to say why don t you love me hasta and let convincing me sit foster mom Darcy on your lap. to adopt her. On unday, when we were getting close to the farm she started to whine and get excited, it was as though she knew she was going home. We opened the back of the truck and she jumped right out. he held her head high, ears up and tail wagging. he met her new mom and I wasn t sure whose smile was bigger. he initally stayed close to me but it didn t take long to let her off the leash and she went exploring. The Loveall s farm is about acres, their home is on the property and the property is in farm country. They are experienced dog handlers, they feed a raw food diet and their dogs are their family. Will Zena have a lot of rules? Probably not, but continued on back page We had a great showing of volunteers and fabulous dogs. Thanks to Cathy, lenn, Chris. Jayne and Darcy for representing R along with our little Pacino who was a huge hit with everyone!
1 From our adopters: patterson I adopted Patterson Pat (named after the kennel in Patterson where we met and he was kept until a Foster could take him or adopted). First photo is when I adopted him. After our first year together and 0 lbs later (Pat, not me), we posed for our first anniversary photo. He is fabulous and everyone in the neighborhood adores him. Thank you olden tate! Jo M.

donation to: mission k9 rescue This is retired Police K9 Bear. He is about 5 years old. Bear was abused by a handler, left with an infected foot that had to be amputated and was maced in his eyes. A kind soul in Missouri contacted us about Bear and an even kinder veterinarian cared for him and amputated his foot when it could not be saved. They are both angels. Unfortunately this injury and Bear s personality will make it impossible to fit a prosthetic and today his leg must be amputated for some hope at a normal life. hasta s visit by Darcy Clark On April 6 hasta and I paid a visit to Betty Frazier and her daughter, Laurie, in Manteca. It was so nice to finally meet them face-to-face. It was a long day as I was delayed for.5 hours due to construction and an overturned big rig, all in the same area. It was quite interesting to sit there with no where to go with huge black clouds swallowing us up with thunder, lightning, downpours and hail. With this delay my visit with Betty and Laurie wasn t as long as I had hoped. But it was a good visit. Betty seems fine but frail and her hearing is failing. Naturally we spoke about hasta s tracking accomplishments and I was sent home with all of her tracking gear. I will investigate tracking after speaking to a trainer. I never knew hasta (formerly ierra) or Betty when they became a family in June of 010. Many people have brought it to my attention that they were honored at the gala dinner in 01 as rescue success story. Little did I know that hasta would be under my care a few years later. Betty proudly showed me the poster of hasta like those hanging in Pet Food Express windows. Betty keeps it on top of her bedroom dresser no doubt, a beautiful greeting each and every morning. Bay Area Veterinary pecialists (in Houston) will be doing the surgery and then providing his aftercare. By the time all is said and done, we will spend close to $5,000 to start him on the road to healing. They will also look at his eyes while in surgery to determine if they can help him there as well from the damage done by mace. We want to thank the volunteers and sponsors of olden tate erman hepherd Rescue for a $1,000 gift toward K9 Bear s surgery and care. That puts us closer to our goal for both his surgery and to help us receive the $5,000 matching grant from a fan. We are so grateful for groups like this. We appreciate you so much! Bob Bryant, Mission K9 Rescue MissionK9Rescue.org July update: I called the vet where Bear is healing, and they said that he is doing great and healing nicely. hasta returned to R after Betty was no longer able to care for her. Darcy adopted her February, 015.

When I followed up with Rose she said that Zena was doing great. he slept in their room that night, althoug during the night Zena did get up and lost her bed to one of the cats, later on the cat moved and Zena got her bed back. Zena s new family includes Dan, Rose, Alvin (1 y/o lab mix), three donkeys, four cats, neighbors chickens, employees of the farm and of course all the wonderful people that come to visit the farm. Zena is in her element, even on her first day she was meeting the public and loving it. I believe this was an awesome match for her and it was exciting to see her go to her new home.
