FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK Well Fed s been done and dusted for another year and once again it has proven to be a great weekend. I must say after our selection day I was a little concerned our team wouldn t make the grade but I am please to say I was proven wrong and our team held it s own with 3rd place and a record 13 medals. Congratulations to everyone who got birds into the team and to those that came away with medals. Special congratulations to Duane for winning his first Fed medal; in all 1 Gold & 2 Bronze. See full Fed report in ZT. This month we venture south to the home of Peter & Judy on the Gold Coast for a Rock n Roll theme meeting; details in ZT. We will have a full post-mortem of Fed and our teams results. Don t forget this months feature table show is Black Series (Black Fronted, Black Faced, Black Bodied & Charcoal) and Yellow Bill. This will be a great opportunity to discuss the finer details of these varieties so bring along your birds for assessment and discussion. I d like to remind members that our club has moved into the technological age with a website and social media pages. Both avenues provide us the opportunity to show case the club and foster the development of our wonderful hobby. It is also a great avenue to encourage new members to the hobby. It was through our club website we were contacted by Frederic Bivert, President of the French Zebra Finch Club, whom we had the opportunity to meet at Fed this year with the chance to further build a close relationship between our 2 clubs. Our club website can be found at www.seqzfs.org with the club operating 2 Facebook pages; one public South East Queensland Zebra Finch Society and the other private for members and invited guests Zebra Finch SEQZFS. If you have anything to contribute please contact Rebecca or myself. There are numerous other websites & Facebook pages for anyone interested in our wonderful hobby. With Fed over for another year and the weather starting to warm up we now turn our attention to the breeding season. By now most of us would have sorted our breeding pairs and the process has started for the season. We know hope we have done everything we can and wait for the birds to do their thing and hopefully produce the results we are chasing. Our October meeting will see our annual club auction/sale at the Pettrigrew s and the chance to grab that odd bird or pair to boost our stud. If you have a bird or two spare that someone else maybe able to use bring them along on the day. Likewise if you are chasing that something extra this is your chance. Come along, enjoy the day and John s great breeding setup. Hope to see you at the James and good luck with your breeding season. HAPPY 1st ANNIVERSARY KIM & TIM CONGRATULATIONS!!! Page 3

Minutes for the SEQZFS 21 August 2016 General Meeting The meeting was held in Gympie in conjunction with, and following the 2016 Federation Qld team selection and lunch. This function was located in the clubrooms of the Gympie Cage Bird Club Inc. Welcome...President Tim Hartung opened the meeting at 1420hrs and welcomed all members, especially those who had travelled some distance. The President extended gratitude to the GCBC Inc for the use of the building for no fee in exchange for the GCBC Inc's recent use of three SEQZFS catching cages. Members were congratulated on presenting birds to enable a full team to go to Fed '16. Of 14 exhibitors, 12 had birds selected. Thanks also went to the days' caterers, Karen Sorensen, Jenny Stolberg and Leanne Benson and thanks also to Natalie Pilkington who took on the role of recording secretary for the day. Apologies---Rebecca Mason, Anthony Dean, James Castle, Liz Ball, Steve Simjanovic, and Gary Clark. Attendance as per attendance book. Treasurer s Report For 1 July 2016 To 30 July 2016 Jenny Stolberg advised that a an amount of $200.00 be set aside to offset fuel costs for those who would be transporting the team birds to Bathurst. Also, accounts for club shirts and the hall cost for the 2017 YBS be paid. 'a full report is available on request' Moved by the treasurer Jenny Stolberg, Seconded ---Kev Phillips. Reports [1] Ring Steward---Kev Phillips advised that the club had 290 split coloured rings and 660 closed rings. Kev also requested the club members to advise him on the ring size and quantity of 2017 rings to be ordered. After some discussion, a motion was put by Peter James, seconded Brett Ross that SEQZFS change their ring size from 2 to 3. Carried. 2500 rings will be ordered. [2] Historian/Librarian---Nil. General Business [1] Strathpine Hall report...tim Hartung advised members on a recent visit to the hall by himself, Kev Phillips and Rebecca Mason after the club had been advised of a steep rent increase being asked for by Morningside Hall. The hall layout was good, as was its central location to members and cheaper cost. A much more practical flooring system also meant far easier cleaning than the previous hall. The members were happy to move ahead with this location and the treasurer was authorised to process the account for the 2017 YBS booking. Tim also spoke of the show stands and the possibility of having to store them elsewhere. A possible purchase of a suitable lock-up trailer may be an eventuality. An interstate judge for the 2017 YBS would also be sourced. [2] New Show Secretary...Rebecca Mason had previously advised that she would not be standing for the position of show secretary in 2017. Tim Hartung asked that all members give the matter considerable thought prior to the Jan 2017 AGM. [3] 2016 FED Team Transport... As previously mentioned in the treasurers report, $200.00 would be provided towards fuel costs for the team transport. This year the majority of the birds would be travelling in the vehicle of Duane and Karen Sorensen with Geoff and Jenny Stolberg as passengers. John Pettigrew would be transporting his own birds personally. [4] Magazine Issues...Editor Kym Williams advised of printing difficulties and the refusal by the Local Members office to print the club magazine because the club address post code is 4570 and not 4000. Past editor Jenny Stolberg could get them printed in Gympie but will look into asking the Gympie Local Member for some support as printing in Brisbane was far more practical. [5] QFS Strategy...Peter James advised that the QFS was embarking on a sponsorship programme for young breeders 16-30 years old, to the value of $1000.00. He asked that members give the idea some thought as a good way of attracting possible members. Anyone interested could contact Peter or QFS directly. Peter also reminded members of the QFS September Auction. [6] Fed '16..Tim Hartung advised that members would have to vote on an agenda item being put by the Northern Team regarding the imposition of a 5 year moratorium on changes to the Zebra Standard. An explanation of the proposal was followed by the reading of Rule 12 of the Federation Constitution, a rule which would be contradicted by the moratorium proposal. Members were also advised that, of the alleged 19 changes cited by the proposer, only 6 were actual changes. Discussion followed and a unanimous vote of no to the moratorium proposal was recorded. Tim Hartung would vote accordingly at the upcoming FLO's meeting. Raffle---[1] Suzette White [2] John McMahon Lucky Door prize-- Paul Williams Table Show Nil The next meeting will be held at the Gold Coast. The meeting was closed at 1520hrs. Page 5
