Hw T... Bulk Weigh Brilers Between 0 and 21 Days Why bulk weigh brilers between 0 and 21 days? Rutine accurate estimates f average bdy weight allws: Accurate mnitring f live flck perfrmance. Identificatin f pssible perfrmance issues. Defined end prduct specificatins t be as clsely met as pssible. 01 Why bulk weigh brilers between 0 and 21 days?

Bulk Weigh Brilers The prcedure fr bulk weighing brilers between 0 and 21 days Bird Handling Birds must be handled in a calm and crrect way by peple wh have been apprpriately trained. Bird welfare must be a pririty at all times. Equipment 1. A gd set f electrnic r manual / mechanical dial scales with 10 g (0.02 lb) increments, an accuracy f +/- 20 g (0.04 lb) and a minimum capacity f 10 kg (22 lb). Examples f different types f weighing scales (left t right) - Flr pan scales fr single r multiple bx weights and manual dial scales. The prcedure fr bulk weighing brilers between 0 and 21 days 2. A pen r pencil. 3. Weight recrding charts. 4. Scientific calculatr if weighing using manual / mechanical dial scales. Nte - All scales shuld be calibrated n a regular basis (at the beginning and end f every weighing) t ensure they are weighing accurately and crrect bdy-weight management is maintained. 02

Bulk Weigh Brilers Prcedure Day 0 (Placement) Weigh at least 3 bxes f chicks per huse placed. Step 5 Zer scales with an empty chick bx and lid. Weigh a bx with chicks inside and with lid n t gain ttal weight f chicks and bx recrd weight. Cunt ut the number f chicks weighed in each bx recrd chick number. Calculate average chick weight. Plt average weight f all chicks weighed n a weight chart and cmpare t target. Example Calculatin: Ttal weight f chicks weighed in bx Average chick weight (g / lb) = Number f chicks in bx Average chick weight = 3200 g (7. lb) = 40 g (0.09 lb) 80 03 The prcedure fr bulk weighing brilers between 0 and 21 days

Prcedure Day 7, 14 and 21 HOW TO... Bulk Weigh Brilers Place an empty bulk weighing cntainer, such as a bx r bucket (big enugh t hld 10-20 chicks at a time), n scales and zer the scales with the cntainer in place. Using a catching pen, catch a sample f at least 1% r 100 birds (whichever is greater) per huse. If birds are sexed, a minimum f 100 birds (r 1% f the ppulatin) f each sex shuld be weighed. Samples shuld be taken frm 3 evenly distributed lcatins thrughut each huse (r sexed pens if grwing sexes separately). Sample pints shuld be away frm dr and walls. Place 10-20 birds at a time int the weighing cntainer and recrd the ttal weight f each full cntainer and the number f chicks. Never put t many chicks in the cntainer; they shuld nt be placed n tp f each ther. The prcedure fr bulk weighing brilers between 0 and 21 days Step 5 Step 6 04 Gently empty the birds ut f the cntainer back int the main ppulatin and repeat the weighing prcess until ALL birds in the catching pen have been weighed. This will eliminate selective bias. Add tgether the weight f all samples weighed and divide by the ttal number f birds weighed. Plt average chick weight n a weight recrding chart and cmpare t target.

Bulk Weigh Brilers Interpreting results If bdy weights are incnsistent with expected gains r there is a marked (+/-50 g [0.11 lb]) deviatin frm the standard bdy-weight prfile, re-weigh the flck t check weighing accuracy using the same prcedures as abve. A deviatin in nrmal weekly bdy-weight gain (+/- 20 g [0.04 lb]) during the first 14 days that cannt be attributed t weighing errr, generally indicates a need t revise farm brding prcedures. If early bdy-weight targets are nt being achieved it is necessary t: Measure, mnitr, and react t huse brding cnditins: Check huses are pre-warmed fr 24 hurs prir t chick arrival. Check huse air temperature at chick level is 30.0 C (86.0 F) at placement. Check huse relative humidity is 60-70% fr the first 3-5 days. Check huse litter temperature is 28.0-30.0 C (82.0-86.0 F) at placement. Check that chicks have n mre than 1 m (3.3 ft) t travel t an adequate fresh water supply. Check that at least 80% f the brding area flr is cvered with paper and / r trays (1 per 100 chicks), and a gd quality sieved crumb r mini pellet is fed. Check light intensity in the brding area is 80-100 lux (7-9 fc). Check crp fill. Feed a higher nutrient quality starter feed. Mre Infrmatin Briler Hw T 04; Hw T... Assess Crp Fill.
