This book has been developed to help all youth exhibitors understand what is needed to show each different livestock species. This book was developed to support the Wayne County Fair Book and is NOT to replace it. All youth exhibitors must follow the rules as they are written in the Fair Book. In situations where the Fair Book and this Guideline conflict, the Fair Book will supersede this Guideline. RECORD BOOKS Division 39, Section 2 Exhibitors participating in the livestock auction MUST turn in one COMPLETED Record book, their choice of species. Record Books are to be completed and turned in Saturday July 29 th between 12-2 pm. Early turn in is acceptable and encouraged. MASTER STOCKMAN Division 39, Section 1 Test will be given on Saturday, July 29 th, starting at 1pm or Friday, August 11 th, starting at 10 am. A Practice Round Robin educational presentation will take place on Friday, August 11 th beginning at 1 pm. The Master Stockman Showmanship Contest will take place Saturday, August 12 th at 10 am. REGISTRATION: Each youth must fill out a 4-H livestock registration form, emergency card, medical form and provide a telephone number where they can be reached before entries will be processed. TAGGING DATES: All market animals must be in possession of the youth exhibitor and tagged according to the livestock rules by the dates/times below. Tagging for beef, swine, sheep and goats may be done at the youth exhibitor s farm (TBD). Any livestock not tagged at the exhibitor s farm and for all other species tagging will be done at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on May 6 th from 10:00 am Noon, except as noted below. AUCTION RULES Division 39, Section 5 Auction is held on Thursday evening of fair week at 6:30 pm All Livestock sales will be required to pay a commission of 22% of the total sale price. The commission can be reduced to 5% by participating in different activities as listed in the Fair Book under Division 39, Section 5 Auction set-up will be scheduled on Wednesday evening and all day Thursday All exhibitors must present their own animals for sale in the auction ring. If an emergency arises and a youth cannot be present, they must contact the 4-H Livestock Auction Chairperson. All market animals will be sold in the auction unless the exhibitor submits a completed Withdrawal from Auction form to have their animal pulled from the auction prior to Wednesday at 7:00 pm of fair week. Forms are submitted to the 4-H Livestock Action Chairperson. Eligible Grand and Reserve Champions must go through the auction All exhibitors selling livestock through the 4-H auction must be in show clothes, 4-H, or 4-H club attire in order to sell their livestock. No bare feet, sandals, torn/thread-bare clothes, or open-toed shoes are allowed for safety reasons. Hard-soled shoes are also recommended. Thank you notes due to the Auction Chairperson by Noon on Saturday of fair week. If you have any concerns or questions about how to properly write a thank you note, please see any member of the Livestock Developmental Committee. Sample notes are available upon request.
