Dear Friends, I have the honor and the privilege to be part of one of the most progressive animal loving communities in the country. Our community shows dedication and support of the animals we serve; and our pets are treated like royalty. I am reminded of the generosity and concern by our community for the animals that enter our shelter each day. And each day I say a silent thank you to each one of you. Each year The Florida Keys SPCA staff and volunteers care for approximately 3,000 animals through our Key West and Marathon locations. These animals come through our doors in need of shelter, medical care; spay neuter, behavior training, and love. We tend to their wounds, heal their hearts and mend their souls. Because of you we can provide quality care, medical attention and the second chance to find a forever home. This summer we will see nearly 750 animals come through our doors. While it is the busiest time for us at the shelter, we take comfort in the support we receive from you. Tonight, when we leave the shelter we will say goodnight to approximately 240 precious dogs, cats, rabbits, and small animals. We will whisper words of love and hope in their ears just as we do each night. For all the animals at the Florida Keys SPCA you are their hope, and for the thousands of animals that will find themselves homeless this year; YOU are their hope. You are their
hope for safety and comfort, their hope for a second chance and ultimately, their hope for life. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for making these happy endings possible and for providing a better life for the thousands of animals that call The Florida Keys SPCA home each year. To the animals you are their heroes and to us you are our partner. Your support truly saves lives. Thank you!!!! With gratitude, Ta mmy Tammy Fox Executive Director A Quick Update on the New Key West Shelter! It's growing fast! I must say, I never knew that concrete could be so exciting! After years of dreams, hopes, disappointments, obstacles and almost's, to see our new shelter taking shape before our eyes is a wonderful sight. Every month, we attend construction meetings with the architect, contractor and our own building consultant. I don't pretend to understand all the technical details that are ironed out, confirmed, altered or changed, but just to be in the company of these experts who are making our dream come true is a privilege. As president of the Florida Keys SPCA, the one thing I don't want to hear at these meetings is that one or other of these technical details is going to mean more money! Unfortunately, sometimes that's unavoidable, as happened the very first week of construction when it was discovered that more pilings for the foundation would be required than was originally estimated. How can you stint on a foundation? That was a very necessary additional expense but what that meant to me was more dollars we'd need to raise! July 2017, the crane is ready for the second story to be added! Fortunately, our Capital Campaign Committee, under the wise chairmanship of board member Jeff Johnson, has already raised $7.7 million, an extraordinary feat by any standards, sufficient to pay for the building construction. Now, we are on the last lap to equip and furnish our new shelter -things like a generator and an elevator: not glamorous items but very necessary. The total comes to around $800,000 and we are working very hard to get there so that next Spring we can present our community with a new, safe shelter that we can all take pride in. Our community is YOU! If you are able to help us reach that goal, you will have made an important contribution, not only to our animals, but to the entire
community that will benefit from the expanded and additional services we will be able to offer. Thank you for all you have done so far. We are truly grateful. Jane Dawkins Board President, FKSPCA It's Easy! Order Online "Georgia," A Sweet Meatball... But A Year is Too Long!
There must be a home for Georgia, there must be! Rescued 365 days ago from life on a chain Georgia understandably took a little extra time, love, attention and socialization than most other dogs. Our dedicated behavior team, staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to turn her life around. Over the last year she's learned to trust, learned to play and even made doggy friends at the shelter and watched as each one of her playmates got adopted. Please don't let Georgia spend another day, week, month or year in the shelter and take some time to get to know this very special "meatball" at our Marathon Campus. Call 305-743-4800 to set up a meet and greet!
Meet "Whiskers" Whiskers is an 8-year-old Domestic Shorthair. She was found as a stray on Duval Street and her owner could not be found. Extremely affectionate, she loves attention and will meow when she wants some belly rubs. Whiskers is diabetic, a special-needs cat
that requires insulin shots twice daily and has specific food to eat, but she is worth the extra effort! She is playful, cuddly and could be friends with another cat. She has lived at our shelter for 1.5 years and is ready for a family! Stop by the Key West campus to meet this lovely girl. Meet "Rambo" Rambo is a 4 year old Boxer & Weimaraner Mix looking for his new home. Rambo is an excited and happy boy that loves going for walks, playing with his toys and learning new tricks. Rambo would do best with an adult family as the only pet in the home. He is strong and energetic, so he will need a home that is willing to exercise both his body & mind and able to handle a big, excited dog.
Rambo could be a wonderful new four legged friend for anyone willing to give him a little TLC. Stop by the Key West Campus to meet Rambo today! Meet "Katniss" Katniss the gorgeous Tortoiseshell Kitty-Kat was rescued from life on the streets in Big
Pine Key. Suffering from flea and mosquito allergies Katniss's scars and rough exterior does not reflect the sweet and affectionate cat she truly is! Don't let her looks fool you, she's all purrs and head butts! Call the Marathon campus today at 305-743-4800 to meet, greet & snuggle with Katniss. Find out more Will You Share With Friends? And Leaving a Legacy Including the Florida Keys SPCA in your estate planning can ensure a loving, joyful future for the homeless animals that depend on the FKSPCA. Legacy Society members care deeply about animals and want to make sure our life-saving work continues for
generations to come. In becoming a member of our Friends Forever Legacy Society-a group of supporters who have made estate plan provisions to give a lasting gift to homeless animals at our shelters-you're leaving your mark in the world by protecting animals in need. Membership is easy. No immediate donation is necessary and we don't need to know the amount. What you should know is that the size of your gift doesn't matter! Planned giving is not for just the wealthy. Large or small, your bequest to the FKSPCA will leave a lasting legacy for the animals. Planned gifts are a unique charitable tool allowing donors to achieve their personal and charitable objectives using tax and financial planning methods. Unlike cash donations, such gifts are typically made from assets in your estate rather than disposable income, coming to fruition upon your death. The simplest and most common planned gift is a bequest in your will or living trust. Others include: annuities that provide income to you and others for life life insurance policies charitable lead trusts an endowment fund retirement plan assets real estate stocks and bonds Your financial advisor will be able to help you decide which type of planned gift is best for you and your family. If you have already included the Florida Keys SPCA in your estate planning, thank you! Please let us know that you have named the Florida Keys SPCA as a beneficiary in your will, trust, insurance policy, donor advised fund, or foundation. With your permission, we will proudly add your name to our growing roster of Friends Forever Legacy Society members. When you get ready to make your Will, please remember the Florida Keys SPCA.
