Possession date is July 10, 2017 THE STATE FAIR OF LOUISIANA SUPPORTS THE ARK-LA-TEX AGRICULTURAL COUNCIL JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SALE RULES ( PLEASE READ IN GENERAL RULES & JUNIOR GENERAL RULES ) ENTRIES CLOSE SEPTEMBER 7, 2017 Check or money order for entry fees must accompany application for entries. Entry Fee: $20.00 per animal. Entry fees will not be refunded unless cancellation is made in writing and received prior to closing entry date, September 7, 2017. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS CALLED TO THE GENERAL RULES GOVERNING THE EXHIBIT OF LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY IN THIS DIVISION. All rules, regulations, premium offerings, etc., appearing in this catalog are subject to correction in event of any printing errors that would tend to change the meaning or intent. THE COST FOR EAR TAGS AND DNA IDENTIFICATION IS $6.00 PER ANIMAL 01.State Fair ear tags and DNA kits will be issue to the 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor ONLY. The 4-H Agent Or FFA Advisor will then issue the ear tags and DNA kits to the exhibitor. It will be the exhibitor s responsibility to tag their animal and pull a hair sample for DNA. It will also be the exhibitor s responsibility to mail the DNA sample and information card back to the State Fair. State Fair will not accept DNA samples and information cards after July 10, 2017. 02. Market lambs ARE NOT required to have milk teeth in place Market lambs can be wether or Ewe lambs. 03. Ewe lambs that are pregnant will be sifted.

04. Exhibitors are responsible for feed, care and management of animals. 05. Sanitary regulations for sheep apply to all sheep on the Fair Grounds. 06. Wether and Ewe lambs are eligible to show in the Market Classes but ewe lambs entered to show in Market Lamb classes cannot be entered to show in breeding classes. 07. All Market Lambs must be entered in the name of one owner. 08. Market Lambs will be shown by breed and weight only. 09. Lambs to be eligible to show must meet a minimum class weight of 111 pounds with no maximum. 10. Lambs weighing from 111 to 120 has the option to show in market show or prospect show. 11. Each Junior Exhibitor will be allowed to exhibit a maximum of five (5) Market Lambs, and may exhibit them in any division at the State Fair. 12. All Market Lambs will be shown slick shorn. A maximum of seven days wool or wool no longer than 1/4 inch. Britches will not be allowed. 13. Market Lambs shown at the 2017 State Fair of Louisiana will be allowed to wear three ear tags. The official LSF tag and a Louisiana Bred tag if the animal has been validated Louisiana Bred, and the Scrapie Tag. 14. Breed classifications offered in the market lamb division to include the following: 1. Hampshire 2. Suffolk 3. Natural Colored 4. Black Face OPB and Cross 5. White Face OPB and Cross 15. It will be the total responsibility of the exhibitor to declare the breed to be entered on the State Fair of Louisiana entry card. However, final determination of breed classification will be made by classifier(s) appointed by the show management. This determination is based on visible characteristics of the lamb (breed determined by predominant breed characteristics of the lamb) the judgment of breed classifier(s) is final and not subject to protest. 16. 4-H Club Agents, FFA Advisors or a designated leader will be responsible for weighing their parish or chapter's lambs between12:00 p.m. and 3:00 PM on the official weigh day designated by the fair management. Official scales will be provided. 4-H Club Agents, FFA Advisors or designated leader will be responsible for turning in their weigh cards to the superintendent prior to 4:00 PM on weigh day. Weighback of animals as placings are completed would consist of the top four lambs in each class, plus any random selections of other placings in that class, at the discretion of the superintendent. WHOLESOME ASSURANCE STATEMENT ATTENTION:

The use by non-veterinarians* of animal drugs or other substances in any manner other than in accord with the labeling approved by FDA is a violation of federal law. * NOTE: Abuse of the extra-label privilege by veterinarians is unethical and is subject to serious consequences such as license revocation. Any food animal must not exceed FDA/EPA/USDA-established tolerances for any foreign substance (identified or unidentified) including drugs, pesticides, feed additives, or other chemicals. Violative results of residue testing are subject to investigation by USDA and FDA for prosecution. Any misrepresentation of a food animal that can potentially affect the acceptability of the carcass will be considered fraud. DRUG TESTING: All Champion Market Lambs will be drug tested. All Other Market Lambs are subject to being randomly drug tested upon request from State Fair of Louisiana officials. RE-WEIGHING: Upon completion of each class show management will re-weigh the top four market animals. Lambs and swine will be allowed a weight tolerance of 5% in gain from the weight listed on the official card. Any animal not within this range will be disqualified. PARISH GROUPS (Must have three parishes or more to have a parish group class) 1. Where there are one or more Parish Groups of sheep exhibited from a Parish, only one premium will be paid and that to the group receiving the highest placing. 2. The following premiums are offered for the purpose of defraying expenses of the junior exhibitors and their entries to the Fair and will be paid to the 4-H Club agent or FFA Advisor. 1st 2nd 3rd $35 $30 $25 CLASS 1. Market Sheep Parish Groups, consisting of 6 market sheep, all from one parish, with not more than 3 animals entered by any one 4-H Club member or FFA member. 2017 LOUISIANA BRED MARKET LAMB SHOW The Louisiana Sheep Producers Association will use the following premium schedule to pay Louisiana Bred premiums: Premium Schedule 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 $10 $8 $6 $5 $5 $2 $2 $2 $2 $2 LOUISIANA SHEEP PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION LOUISIANA-BRED RULES

A. PURPOSE 1. To improve Louisiana Sheep. 2. To promote the Louisiana sheep industry while allowing 4-H Club and FFA members to improve their knowledge of management practices involved in selecting, feeding and fitting lambs. 3. To highlight the achievements of Louisiana youth through an awards program. B. AWARDS 1. All Louisiana-bred Market Lamb Division Champs will receive $50 and all Louisiana-bred Market Lamb Division Reserve Champions will receive $25 from LSPA. All Louisiana-bred Champs will receive an award and all Louisiana-bred Reserve Champs will receive an award from LSPA. 2. Grand Champion Louisiana-bred Market Lamb will receive $1 for every Louisiana-bred lamb in the show and an award from LSPA. 3. Reserve Grand Champion Louisiana-bred Market Lamb will receive one-half the amount given to the Grand Champion Louisiana-bred and an award from LSPA. 4. No premiums will be paid for division champion or reserve champion, or overall Grand and Reserve Champion lambs until all DNA and drug testing has been successfully cleared by the State Fair of Louisiana. C. JUDGING 1. All animals entered in the Louisiana-bred Market Lamb Show will be judged within their respective class during the regular class judging. 2. The 1st and 2nd place Louisiana-bred Market Lambs in each class will return for the selection of the Champion and Reserve (weight division and/or overall). D. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING LOUISIANA-BRED MARKET LAMB SHOW 1. Definition of a Louisiana-bred Market Lamb: An animal must have been conceived, born and raised in Louisiana. 2. Market Lamb must be purchased from a Breeder who is a member of the Louisiana Sheep Producers Association. 3. The Market Lamb must be nominated for the show by the Breeder. A nomination fee of $8.50 per animal will be sent to Louisiana Sheep Producers Association, PO Box 1465, Jennings, LA. 70546, with a request for inspection. The breeding sheep must be nominated for the show by the breeder. A nomination fee of $8.50 per animal must be sent to LSPA. The only exception is for a ewe lamb that was originally tagged as a market lamb. In this instance, the exhibitor can obtain a breeding tag from the LSPA, but must return the market tag from the lamb s ear before a new breeding tag will be issued. 4. Each Market Lamb nominated for the show must be inspected, tagged with a special LSPA Market Lamb tag and tattooed by a representative of the Louisiana Sheep Producers Association before the animal leaves the farm.

5. The ear tags must be in the lamb s ear at the time of showing to be eligible for Louisiana-bred awards. Lost tags will be replaced only at the State Fair, district or state shows, at check-in, except in parishes that recognize Louisiana-bred animals at parish shows. In that case, contact the LSPA, P.O. Box 1465, Jennings, La. 70546. 6. Lambs tagged with breeding sheep tags will not be allowed to show as Louisiana-bred Market Lambs. No animals will be allowed to show in both breeding and market. E. Rules and regulations governing State Fair of Louisiana Livestock Show, 4-H and FFA must be met for Market Lamb to be eligible. LOUISIANA-BRED SHEEP COMMITTEE A. The LSPA Board of Directors reserves the final and absolute right to interpret, amend or add to the rules and regulations in regard, thereto, connected with or incident to the Louisiana-bred breeding sheep and market lamb shows and awards. B. The LSPA Board of Directors will also serve as the committee to handle any protest that is formally filed with the livestock show manager at any livestock show concerning Louisiana-bred sheep shows.
