BARKS JUNE 2009 Monthly Newsletter of the Glenbard All-Breed Obedience Club Dear Barks Readers, UH-OH. I had no ideas what I was getting into. So please be patient with me as I make a fool out of myself attempting to figure out how to maneuver through becoming a newsletter editor. I am supported by Candy Ellis who will be handling the physical snail mailing of Barks to those who chose it over e-mail. MANY thanks to Candy Ellis! And, YES, I am excited to be taking over, and will give it my best effort. BUT, I need your support. Please send me all your BRAGS, fun or noteworthy adventures shared with your canine friends, news or health articles, jokes, need I go on? Write us a question on training or grooming, we will get you an answer, (of some kind) Thanks in advance for your support and the opportunity to be your editor! I m normally very cautious in accepting a judging assignment for first-timers, but since Glenbard s been around forever and I know several people in the club, I thought it would be fine. You and your club have done an outstanding job from the very beginning. You hired a professional trial secretary, Beth Elliott. You rented an outstanding indoor facility that attracts exhibitors. Your trial filled, which is a statement in itself with the economy as it is. You had numerous club members willing to work and learn about agility. You fed all of the workers with just the very best food. I was amazed at breakfast each day and lunch was beef stew and pulled pork. I just wish I had the time to really enjoy each meal. (Agility judges do not get to take a lunch break. They figure we can do that while exhibitors walk the course.) And the best was the quick neck and back massage by Chef Barb. What a sweetheart! When agility judges talk we always talk about some of the clubs we have judged for in the past. We jokingly call them War Stories and warn other judges what they might expect. We also give praise to clubs that run efficient, friendly trials. Believe me, I have been on the phone singing my praises about Glenbard. You will not have any problems in finding judges for your future trials! Thank you for the judge s gift bag of truly usable items, including the gas card. I will put them all to good use. Thanks again for inviting me to judge your first agility trial. Bonnie Drabek
