Enroll in the Market Sheep Project by enrollment deadline. 2. Attend Meat Quality Assurance Training (MQA) annually. 3. Complete and file an Animal Care and Housing Form (Primary Care) on 4HOnline (leased animals and animals not housed at home must turn form in to Extension Office). 4. Tag all market sheep at mandatory County Tag-in day. 5. ID all animals in 4HOnline by June 1 deadline. 6. Attend Livestock Record Book Interviews and present an up-to-date E-Record Book. 7. Enter fair classes online by entry deadline. 8. Complete and turn in E-Record Book the Friday following Labor Day to Extension Office. Additional Fair-related rules are listed below as well as under each Division/Class: 1. All lambs, ewes and rams must have all lamb teeth intact. 2. Sheep exhibiting characteristics and genetics of both wool and meat breeds will be placed in proper show according to Extension Agent, with consultation of Superintendent. 3. Permissible bedding includes ONLY the following; shavings and straw 4. Exhibitors must show all of their own animals. Exception: when exhibitor has more than one animal in a class, only another Adams County 4-H member is eligible to assist in showing the second or other animals in a class. 5. No ice or ice water will be used on lambs. No drenching will be allowed; unless prescribed by a veterinarian. 6. Exhibitors may use meshed or plastic muzzles on lambs and goats at the Adams County Fair. the style used must allow the animal to drink water. 7. Market Lambs Will Not Be Shown In Breeding Classes, all animals are considered market, once they cross the scale. 8. Market Lambs Must Be Slick Shorn From The Knees And Hocks Up. ** Wool patch must be present on the shoulder to be eligible for wool breed and finewool cross classes. 9. Barns will be closed nightly from 10:00 p.m. - 5:45 a.m. nightly.

RECORD BOOKS No Entry Fee Please refer to the General Rules for 4-H Record Book requirements. 1. 2. Members must complete and turn in (by deadline) a record book for each species in which they exhibit at Fair. If a record book is not completed for each species exhibited, the member will forfeit premiums and be ineligible to exhibit that species at the next year s Fair. Beef members complete Livestock E-Record and any necessary supplements. DIVISION: RECORD BOOKS 1. Junior 8 10 years 2. Intermediate 11 13 years 3. Senior 14 18 years PRODUCER CLASS Thursday, August 3, 1:30 pm DIVISION: PRODUCER CLASS 1. Producer Class - Owner must have bred and own the entered animal. 2. 1. Owner must have bred and own the entered animal. 2. Exhibitor may nominate up to three animals but show only one in the producer class at fair. 3. Breeding or Market (sheep) may be entered in the producer class. 4. An Adams County Extension Agent, or their designee, must visit the premise where the (sheep) is kept. At this time the following identification must be met: a. The visit must be done prior to the weaning of the nominated animal(s). b. The exhibitor must complete nomination cards for the three nominated producer animal(s). c. The exhibitor must provide proof of ownership for the animal(s) d. All producer nominated animals must be tagged with an identifying tag. 5. Producer Animals need not attend the spring livestock tag-ins if they are breeding projects and will not be shown in market classes at the Adams County Fair. These animals must still have an identifying tag or tattoo. 6. All producer animals must be identified, have had a visit from the Extension Agent, or their designee and have all necessary paperwork on file with the Extension Agent no later than 24 hours prior to the first date of spring tag-in for sheep. Scoring: This DIVISION is scored and placed based upon three different criteria. All criteria must be met and entered by all stated deadlines in order to be eligible for placing. 1. Enter and show identified producer (sheep) in class, the class will be placed top to bottom. 2. Complete and Enter (sheep) record book by stated deadline. 3. Interview Each exhibitor must have a personal interview with the (sheep) judge. This is to occur just prior to the judging of the producer animal s class. DIVISION: RATE OF GAIN RATE OF GAIN *No Entry Fee* 1. Lamb must meet minimum weight requirements. First Place - $30.00 Second Place - $20.00 Third Place - $10.00

BREEDING EWE FUTURITY Thursday, August 3 (Immediately Following Producer Class) BREEDING EWE FUTURITY This class is intended to promote the breeding sheep program. Members and exhibitors shall enter a breeding ewe with the intention of continuing to raise, breed and lamb as part of the 4-H project and program. Market animals are not eligible for this class. 1. Limit one entry per exhibitor. All origins and breeds eligible for entry. 2. Lambs must have identification to allow them to be entered from year-to-year; this can be a producer s tag or a tattoo. 3. Lambs may also be retinal scanned to prove identity in subsequent entry years. 4. Members are not required to have bred and owned the entered lamb, but must maintain ownership over subsequent years of entry. 5. Lambs to be judged based upon ability to produce offspring true to specific breed characteristics. Length of wool will not be judged. 6. Ewe s entered in Market Classes are not eligible. Once an animal crosses the scale it is considered a market animal. 7. After completion of first year, lambs must be identified for entry the following year. This is true for second to third year entries as well. 8. Second year ewes may or may not have lambs, third year should have lambs. Premiums will be given each year with a top premium to be awarded after Third Year Futurity placing. Based on the scoring determined below. Grand Champion - $100 SHEEP HALTER LEAD CLASS Thursday, August 3 (Following Futurity) Superintendent: Michelle Sterkel 1. Entries will be open to anyone who has an interest in the sheep or wool industry, i.e. raising sheep or sewing with wool. 2. Only sheep in the 4-H show may be used for sheep lead. You do not have to own your own sheep to participate in this contest, however, if you are being sponsored you must designate your sponsor in your resume. If you lead your own sheep, you will receive extra bonus points. 3. Outfit contestants will model outfits of at least 50% wool for Jr. and 75% wool for Sr. The outfit does not have to be handmade. It should be appropriate for the age and present a stylish, attractive picture showing the beauty of wool. If you constructed your outfit, you will receive extra bonus points. 4. Three judges will award points for the sheep (general appearance, fitting, leading ability, etc.), and overall effect (control of the sheep, total look, etc.) The contestant awarded the highest number of total points shall be declared the winner. In case of a tie, bonus points will be awarded for originality. 5. ALL ENTRANTS MUST TURN IN A RESUME TO THE SUPERINTENDENT AT SCALES AT MARKET WEIGH-IN, Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 1PM-3PM. Resume will include name, age, club name, school, sheep background, sponsor (if any), and description of the outfit. DIVISION: SHEEP LEAD 1. Junior Sheep Halter Lead age 8-13 years as of December 31 of the previous year. 2. Senior Sheep Halter Lead age 14-18 years as of December 31 of the previous year. Premiums: 1st - $10 2nd- $8 3rd- $6 4th- $4 5th- $2 Each class must have at least three contestants. Special award to Champion.

Senior Showmanship: Senior 14-18 years ADULT SHOWMANSHIP Friday, August 4 $5.00 Jackpot (enter at time of show) Any Adams County 4-H parent, leader, or former County 4-H member may enter this class. 4-H MARKET LAMBS Friday, August 4 at 4:00pm or Following Breeding Weigh-In Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 1PM-3PM. 1. All market lambs must weigh in during the scheduled weigh-in time to be eligible. 2. All Market lambs must weigh a minimum of 100 pounds. 3. Classes will be broken down by the Sheep Superintendent, with approval by the Extension Agent 4. Market lambs will be divided into the following classes by the official classifier. 5. Each exhibitor will be given a sale declaration card. This card designates which animal they would like to send to the Jr. Livestock Sale. This card must be submitted to the Extension office no later than 6:30PM the day before the Sale (Friday). Late submissions will not be accepted. DIVISION: MARKET LAMBS 1. Dorset 2. Southdown 3. Suffolk 4. Hampshire 5. Crossbreeds (medium wool breeds, listed above) 6. Wool Breeds(Ramboullet, Columbia, Corriedale, Etc.) 7. Fine Wool Cross (cross between wool breeds and med. wool breeds) 8. Pair of Market Lambs Grand Champion Market Lamb Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb CARCASS CONTEST Entry Fee: $5.00 Maximum two (2) entries per exhibitor 1. All lambs will be sonary examined during the scheduled lamb weigh-in hours at fair. 2. Only two (2) lambs per exhibitor may be entered in the carcass contest. DIVISION: CARCASS CONTEST - Entry Fee $5.00 1. Sheep Carcass First Place - $75.00 Second Place - $50.00 Third Place - $25.00

PREMIER EXHIBITOR CONTEST DIVISION: Premier Exhibitor CLASS 1 (All Exhibitors) Rules: 1. The purpose of this contest is to recognize exhibitors that excel in the areas of care, knowledge, and presentation of their projects. 2. The contest will have the following divisions: Beef, Goat, Sheep, Swine, Poultry and Rabbits. 3. Exhibitors may have breeding or market projects or both. All ages will compete together within each species area. Exhibitors are allowed to enter the Premier Exhibitor Contest in as many species as they are enrolled in. One winner per species will be awarded. 4. Exhibitors must pre-enter this contest along with their regular fair entries. Please see department for further entry information. 5. All entrants will identify themselves by placing a Premier Exhibitor ID on your stalls/cages. 6. The Contest will be judged on the following Criteria: a. Herdsmanship - 30 points possible 1. There are five major judging criteria that you will be judged on for herdsmanship. Identification of animals (stall cards), care and maintenance of animals and are while at fair (do they always have water?), stall cleanliness, stall decorations, and educational information (poster or other item). You must have your Premier Exhibitor ID on your stall sign to be judged and earn points for these criteria. b. Knowledge Test 30 points possible 2. Exhibitors will be required to take a 30 question, multiple choice test, designed to evaluate knowledge of their project in areas such as: health, feeding, breeding, selection, handling, carcass, and industry related issues. All questions will be taken from the recognized 4-H project manuals. All entrants must take their specific species knowledge test at the time specified. Tests will be given at Record Book Interviews in July on dates announced by Extension Office. This is the ONLY opportunity for participants to complete this test. c. Showmanship 30 points possible 1. Points given for showmanship placing will be broken down according to the following point chart. d. Class Placing 10 points possible 1. Each exhibitor will receive points for his/her highest placing animal. Only one animal per exhibitor (market or breeding) will be used for class placing points. Points will be broken down according to the following point chart. e. Number of Animals Exhibited - 6 points possible 1. Exhibitors will receive one point for each market animal they exhibit (up to 3 points). Exhibitors will receive one point for each breeding animal they exhibit (up to 3 points) f. Record Book 10 points possible 1. Points will be awarded on the following sliding scale found in the following chart: g. Bonus Points 5 points possible 1. Exhibitors will receive 5 bonus points for exhibiting animals in both the market class and producer class division. h. Tie Breaker 1. Exhibitors will fill out a short essay answer at the end of their test. This essay will be used in the event of a tie to determine a winner. 7. Points will be awarded for placing within each class based on the exhibitor s actual placing within the class regardless if all exhibitors in the class are participating in the Premier Exhibitor class. AWARD: $125 Cash Award Winners will be announced at the October Achievement Banquet. Fleeces may only be entered in 4-H or Open Class wool. NOT BOTH. 2. Fleeces must have been sheared in the last 12 months from an animal which the exhibitor owned at the time of shearing. 3. Represent not more than 12 months growth except in the case of yearling fleeces when 16 months growth will be allowed. 4. In case of controversy concerning the number of month s growth of any fleece, the acknowledged rate of monthly growth of wool from different breeds and types of sheep shall be used as a guide. 4. The management reserves the right to inspect any fleece entered to determine its eligibility. Fleece judged overage and/or found To contain parts of other fleeces will not be allowed to compete. 5. Exhibitors will be limited to two (2) entries in each class and no fleece can compete in more than one (1) class except for Champion. 6. It is recommended that exhibitors pack fleeces in clear plastic bags loosely so as not to impair their character or attractiveness. 7. Each fleece must be tagged with this information: breed, sex, and number of months growth. DIVISION: 4-H FLEECES CLASS 1: All Fleeces Classes will be broken with cooperation and input from the judge and superintendent and with approval from the extension agent.
