She worked in equine, mixed, small animal and holistic practices in England and Wales until she started a holistic veterinary referral service and an herbal practice for people in Yorkshire in 1999. She studied at the College of Phytotherapy, East Sussex and gained her Diploma of Herbal Medicine in 1998 becoming the first veterinarian Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists in 1999.
