I LOVE MY COUNTRY Unit 8 Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus lived long ago. He was a very brave man. He sailed across the ocean with three small ships. His ships were called the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. 4 Section 1

Unit 8 I LOVE MY COUNTRY Columbus found a new land. He had discovered America. He met the people who lived in the new land. Columbus called them Indians. I LOVE MY COUNTRY Unit 8 The Pilgrims More people came to the new land. They were called Pilgrims. The Pilgrims loved God. In their own country they could not worship God in their own way. They wanted to be free to worship God. One hundred (100) Pilgrims came to America in a very small ship. The ship was called the Mayflower. The Pilgrims named their town Plymouth. The Pilgrims friend, Squanto, showed them how to plant corn and other food. 6 Section 1
