TSCA Newsletter 2016 January 26, 2016 President s Message As I have watched the news over the past few days, the winter storm that crippled the Northeast totally passed us by here in Upstate New York. We can still see grass through the small layer of snow and I for one am not missing it at all. In 2015 several committees came under new leadership and I am very pleased with the work they have done and are continuing to do. Remember this is YOUR club and help is always needed in some way. If there is something you are interested in doing, please let me or another Board member know. I do want to say a special thank you to Susan Miccio, who is leading Rescue with great success. Several dogs have already become known to her and, with the help of people around the country, all have been placed into permanent homes. This is not an easy thing to handle and Susan does it with grace and fortitude. The 2016 National is moving ahead I hope many of you will be attending. Watch for more information soon Kim and Donna are planning a fun time for all! Spring will be here soon see you at the shows. The following candidates were nominated by the nominating committee to fill the vacancies for the Class of 2020: Gretchen Bernardi, Mississippi Valley Kennel Club; Linda Ayers Turner Knorr, Greenville Kennel Club; and Thomas Powers, Kennel Club of Beverly Hills. Delegates endorsed in writing for those vacancies are Rita J. Biddle, Ingham County Kennel Club; Patricia M. Cruz, Heart of the Plains Kennel Club; William J. Feeney, Sir Frances Drake Kennel Club; Karolynne McAteer, Irish Setter Kennel Club of America. The election will take place on March 8, 2016, at the annual meeting of the American Kennel Club. If any member feels strongly about any of these candidates in favor or opposition, please contact me by email at di24kk9s@wexfordgold.com to voice your opinion. Litter registrations as of October 31, 2015 are slightly below the level as of the same period last year, while there has been an increase of 1.5% in over all dog registrations. The amendment read at the September 2015 meeting to eliminate term limits for Board members was not approved. The motion to amend Chapter 4, Section 2, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows, which allows clubs to utilize electronic documents for premium lists was approved; as was the amendment to Chapter 7, Section 12 allowing clubs to utilize electronic documents for judging programs, unless the exhibitor requests a hard copy. Amendment to Chapter 12, Sections 1, 3, 4, and 6 was approved as well, allowing clubs to publish their catalogue electronically if they so desire. The final vote of the meeting was a proposed amendment to Chapter 16, Section 7, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows, which recognizes multiple levels of Grand Championship titles was approved. The following motions will be voted on at the March 8, 2016, Delegates Meeting. Amendment to Article VI, Section 5, of the Charter and Bylaws of the American Kennel Club, which would permit Delegate judges to charge a fee, from $0-$150 It is thought that this would increase the pool of potential Delegates to make the Delegate body more inclusive. It was proposed by the Delegate Bylaws Committee and brought forward with a recommendation from the AKC Board. Amendment to Chapter 9, Section 12, of the Beagle Field Trial Rules, would allow for the creation of a National Championship for Beagle Two-Couple Packs events. This amendment was brought forward by the AKC Board based on an AKC staff recommendation. Board. Dianne Tyree 3

Orange Blossom Tibetan Spaniel Club of Florida Orange Blossom Tibetan Spaniel Club of Florida held their First Annual Regional Specialty on December 11,2015 at the Orlando Cluster Eukanuba Dog Show. Our judges were Barbara Alderman for the Specialty and Robert Bohannan for Juniors. We had 60 entries 6-15(21-16)1-1 plus 3 juniors and only 4 absentees with majors in both dogs & bitches. Entries came from Colorado, the Mid-West, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and of course the South. The weather was a little undesirable but that's Florida in the winter. We had a few glitches but that's to be expected and have yet to receive any negative feedback (fingers crossed). As I've said before, I can't THANK everyone enough for their hard work and support of our club. Especially the officers and the board members of TSCA for their blessing on this adventure. Our first time show chair Barbara Elrod was awesome! I don't think we missed a deadline with the Specialty Cluster chair, AKC, or Onofrio. The months leading up to the show she was commuting from Jacksonville to St. Augustine nights and some weekends working on her BA (she graduated with honors on December 12th). Barb was also the mastermind behind the goody bags for each entry. Georgine Abramson, our trophy chair, did a great job, the cool pads were a useful gift and well received. Lisa Halpain helped us with etching of some last minute gifts. We struck a deal with Anderson Pet shirt designs for specialty shirts, the club got a kickback on every shirt sold. Trish Panzarella, from Isle of Dogs, donated shampoo samples for the goodie bags. A fun time was had by all and we look forward to a repeat on Friday, December 16, 2016. Hope y'all will be able to join us! Torie Marks President, OBTSCOF 8

by Susan Miccio RIP Pikachu: Pikachu, age 15, was rescued in November 2015, after his owner surrendered him to a Virginia shelter. Sadly, when he had a desperately-needed dental, we learned that he had inoperable cancer of the tongue, and his foster care became hospice care. He enjoyed a few weeks of comfort followed by rapid decline. Pika went to the Bridge on 1/11/2016. My thanks to his foster family, Kathy and Wes Baker, and to everyone who contributed and cared about Pika. Pikachu Callie: A 9 ½ year old female, Callie was a hardship surrender due to her owner s terminal illness. She is in foster care and will be available for adoption when she has completed the veterinary protocol. Special thanks to Jo K who recommended a wonderful foster home in Houston TX. Alerts: Starting in January 2016, I began emailing alerts about Tibbies in trouble directly to each TSCA member s email address rather than to the TSCA Yahoo group. By sending Alerts directly to your email, I can be sure that you ll find out if a Tibbie of your breeding or a Tibbie you know is in trouble. I was gratified by the membership s response to my first two alerts one about a Tibbie advertised on Craigslist and the other an appeal for a foster home. Thanks to all. Callie Trust Facebook Page and Website: In 12/2015, I launched the new TSCA Rescue & Health Trust non-profit organization page on Facebook. Like the Trust, the page has a dual purpose. First, it will spread the word about Tibbies in trouble and feature success stories and photos from past rescues. Second, the page will feature informative posts on health matters of interest to Tibbie owners. If you re on Facebook, please check us out. I d LOVE to have more likes and shares. In addition, the Trust s website at http://tstrust.org/ is a work-in-progress while we redesign it for improved appearance and content. 13
