New Freedom Lions Club Newsletter We Serve Chartered 1933 Dist. 14C, Zone 4C President, Lion Glenn Roenigk April, 2017 ~ Roar from the President ~ Hey NF Lions, has Mother Nature slipped a month or two? March had more snow than we had in December, January & February combined. I m hoping April will put all that winter stuff behind us for the spring of 2017. Many thanks are due our very busy NF Lions! Lion Lindy was hard at work making sure that everybody heard about the Heroin: An Epidemic in York County event. Special thanks to all the Lions & Leos that came out to help with that event on March 29th; Lion Lela working with her former Girl Scouts to put on the GENIUS (Girls ENgaged In Understanding Science) Day at St. John Lutheran Church in New Freedom on April 1st. Lion Tom has been doing a great job on the Yard Sale which is coming up on May 6th. Lions Bob, Brian & Jim have been hard at work making plans for the Cook Shack workaround. The current schedule deems a new building unlikely by carnival and so we will be working on alternate plans on a day to day basis. In light of the snow predictions Zone 4C chairperson Jacobus Lion Al made a wise decision to postpone the Zone Social slated for March 14th and reschedule for Tuesday May 2nd.
- Roar - cont. The zone social will take the place of our usual 1st Tuesday meeting. Sign up (re-sign up) sheet will be at our meeting April 4th. Please try to attend the Zone Social, as it is a good way to hear from the rest of the clubs in the zone and share ideas. Also don t forget that our club is picking up the registration fee ($10) for you to attend the District 14-C Convention on April 22nd at Wyndam Gardens in York. Applications will also be available at our meeting April 4th. Programs for April will be Randy Parker from the York Daily Record on the 4th and Heather Erickson from Armstrong Cable on the 18th. I guess you could say it s our communication program month. It will be interesting to see how newspapers and cable decide on what information is presented to their customers. Last but not least, here are the 2017-18 officer nominations; Pres. - Kerry McKnight 1st VP - Tom Foley 2nd VP - Bob Werner Treasurer - Phil Olphin, Asst. - Bob Dickson Secretary - Jeff Blum, Asst. - Steve Grothey Lion Tamer Mitch Marucha Tail Twisters - Charlie Shuchart 2 Year Dir - Dave Shuchart, Dennis Barry 1 Year Dir - Jim Peters, Dennis McAvoy Chaplin - Andrew Greenwood, Asst. - Glenn Roenigk IPP - Glenn Roenigk

~ ReWind ~ Drug Awareness Event Packed meeting tonight in New Freedom for the York Opioid Collaborative (Heroin Task Force) educational presentation on the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic in York County. Thanks to the New Freedom Lion's Club for hosting, especially to Lion Lindy Sweeney for coordinating. Thanks to all the resource entities who were there to support our families and community, too. Thanks to all who attended and shared their concerns, especially to those who poured out their hearts about the impact this disease has had on their lives. Every time we do one of these we come away inspired by all the good people who are in this fight with us! You motivate us to never give up -- we will persist for however long it takes. Changing hearts, changing minds - one by one. from the FaceBook post of Pamela Hildebrand Gay (March 29, 2017) York County Coroner
Dutch Says It is now April. Flowers are starting to come up (yummy). Trees are blooming (yes shade). So winter is over and we got a total of 2 inches of snow all winter. I'm from Michigan, I love snow. But it is also nice that I can start working on my tan. Laying on the porch letting the sun do its job. I do miss being able to just run around in the backyard, but it's all good. We play a lot inside now. You know we have to take the good with the bad. Lioness/Lion Gail found a lady that has chickens, ducks, goats and a mean dog. When she stops to get eggs I get to run around her whole yard to see if there any chickens out. You see her dog will get the chickens, but then it is dinner. We are going to get eggs today. I am so happy. But after running around her fence I am so tired. She told Lioness/Lion Gail that the fence is going around 10 acres. She also said that she's making it bigger. I'm going to have to make sure I stretch before I run, for sure. For now a 5-minute warm-up is good. There are birds living in the bush right by the steps. I keep trying to catch them. Lioness/ Lion Gail tells me to leave them alone. All I want to do is see why they are in my bush. You see there are two of them. One is pretty, the other one not so much. They go in and out more then I do. So I just lay on the porch and watch. They looked like they are taking trash into tree. One day I saw the not-so-pretty one take a piece of plastic bag into the bush. There is one cat. It is big. Lioness/ Lion Gail said it reminds her of Garfield. It likes to come over and watch the birds also. But every time it sees the birds it jumps up and tries to catch it. Then I tell the cat it has to leave because Lioness/ Lion Gail said I couldn't bother the birds. So if I can't no one can. Well it is time for some sunbathing and bird watching. Talk to you later and we hope you have a Great Easter, ~ Dutch and Lioness/Lion Gail
