February 7, 2017 Wow, I can hardly believe seven months have gone by already. I am really excited about the upcoming National and the concurrent Tar Heel Cluster Shows. If you haven t received a Premium, the Superintendent is MB-F and it s easy to sign up and enter everything from there. Let s also support the Supported Entries on Saturday (TSCA) and The Orange Blossom TSC on Sunday. Besides the National, this group, headed by Janet Habinger, has been working long and hard to coordinate with the Cluster and present a wonderful Specialty event for our membership and friends. See you at the National! President s Message Diane Zdrodowski I had the privilege of attending the AKC National ship presented by Royal Canin this year for the first time ever. What an extravaganza! They weren t kidding! The venue was expansive, the hotel was so accommodating, the people were lovely and I think it was one of my favorite vacations ever! My dog Xander and I spent two days in the Meet The Breeds booth along with Torie Marks, Barbara Elrod, and Dianne Tyree and several other Tibbies. I know there were probably a few other folks helping and I apologize for not mentioning you. What a wonderful experience. I know we introduced this breed to many people who never knew they existed and made favorable impressions on the children they gave kisses to. It was quite a moving experience. Again, thank you to all the wonderful volunteers we have working on the National, working on Committees all the time and lending their hands to the success of the Tibetan Spaniel Club of America, Inc. Diane Zdrodowski President TSCA, Inc Delegates Meeting Dianne Tyree AKC Chairman, Ron Menaker began by giving a brief introduction noting that this is the 16th year for the AKC National ship. Royal Canin from the Mars Petcare will be the presenting sponsor for the foreseeable future. Seven thousand dogs in all competitions, it is the largest entry ever. Registrations have increased by 8% overall, and 2016 saw the addition of the new AKC Canine College, and the Junior Showcase Event. In 2016, AKC was leading the way in canine legislation, Government Relations monitored and responded to more than three thousand proposed bills and ordinances, and played a role in the establishment of May 1st as National Purebred Dog Day. 2016 was also a year of growth for the web site, now ranked as the number one web site for dog content. Traffic on AKC.org is up more than forty percent. There has also been advancements in Communications in 2016, to meet the public interest in purebred dogs. Two Public Service Announcements have been created showing AKC Breeders and AKC as the two most important resources for future dog owners. A third will debut in January. President, Dennis Sprung presented the AKC Visionary Awards, which celebrate individuals whose vision and contributions have been responsible for change and forward movement in our organization. Five Delegates were recognized as leaders in the AKC community. Chris Sweetwood, Trap Falls Kennel Club, Gail LaBerge, Atlanta Obedience Club, Alan Kalter, Nancy Fisk, Hockamock Kennel Club, Tom Davies, Springfield Kennel Club. Total revenue through November 30, 2016 was $59.3 million, with $54.2 million in expenses, for an Operating Income of just over $5 million dollars, as well as an increase in assets and decrease in liabilities. The nominated candidates for the Class of 2021: Rita J. Biddle, Ingham County Kennel Club; Dominic P. Carota, Pharaoh Hound Club of America; Dr. Gregory J. Paveza, Elm City Kennel Club; Harvey M. Wooding, Westminster Kennel Club along with the endorsed candidates nominated by delegate endorsement, Jeffrey David Ball, Ramapo Kennel Club; Thomas Powers, Kennel Club of Beverly Hills; Julian Prager, Central Florida Kennel Club; John L. Ronald, Samoyed Club of America; Daniel J. Smyth Esquire, Burlington County Kennel Club were introduced. Each of the candidates spoke for three minutes presenting their credentials and positions. 3

Delegate Report continued from previous page A vote was taken to amend Chapter 6, Section 9, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows. The amendment would extend the closing time for entries to be no later than 11:59 p.m. as an option of the club. There are 151 in favor and 94 opposed. There were not 2/3 in favor, so the amendment was not passed. The following amendments will be voted on at the March 2017 meeting. An amendment to Chapter 2, Section 3, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows, would enable the AKC, upon receipt of an appeal, to approve a club for the holding of a show at a site within the area of another club on a case-by-case basis, if it believes the permission of the host club has unreasonably been denied. The amendment was proposed by the Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee after the subject was referred to the committee by the Delegate body. It was put forward by the Board with a positive recommendation. Chapter 14, Section 14, of the Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures for Retrievers. Mr. Crowley: The amendment to Chapter 14, Section 14, the Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures for Retrievers, would encourage new owners of young dogs to train and participate with their dogs in AKC retriever field trials. All subsequent sections of the chapter will be renumbered. The amendment was proposed by AKC staff and brought forward by the Board with a positive recommendation. It will be published in two issues of the online AKC Gazette, and you will be asked to vote on it at the March 2017 meeting. A full report can be read at http://images.akc.org/pdf/delegate/transcripts/1216.pdf?_ga=1.151508857.115676601.1486149095 Nominations The Nominating Committee, consisting of Dianne Tyree (Chair), Lisa Gembala, and Teri Paris presents the following slate of officers and directors for a two year term beginning June 1, 2017. Announcement: TSCA New Handbook TSCA will no longer publish a separate New Handbook. Starting January 1, 2018 TSCA will be publishing the New (Title Holder) Handbook in conjunction with the first quarterly newsletter of the year. What does that mean to you? If you have a new title holder (this can be either conformation or performance) in the year 2017 the newsletter editor will contact you to see if you would like your dog in the new title issue of the newsletter. The page will be set up as in the previous handbooks to include your dog s picture, three generation pedigree, their call name, sex of the dog, the day they were whelped, birthplace, color, breeder, and owner, including owner s address. If your dog has received a title since 1984 and you would like to include your dog, please contact me via email at cynaracollies@comcast.net or call me at 301.305.3050 and I will be happy to include your dog. The fee will be the cost of a full page black and white ad ($30) but there is no additional cost of the newsletter. TSCA hope all members will contribute and will value this special edition. I do ask a favor from those I contact in regard to having your new title holder included in the newsletter: If you are interested, please get me your dog s information within the month I contact you. This will allow me to construct the page for your dog, time for you to review any mistakes and will reduce the amount of work at the end of the year when I go to publish the newsletter. I would greatly appreciate your help. I m hoping all will go smoothly with your cooperation and TSCA can continue to offer this issue.
